Gran Guerrero’s turn to do the 2010s CMLL formula match, with annoying results.
Recapped: 07/13/2015
Match 1: Dragon Lee, Stigma, Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Kamaitachi, Okumura
Arena Puebla, 06/29/2015
- rudos
- Bobby Zavala dropkick Stigma (5:05)
- Okumura/Kamaitachi hanging DDT Triton (5:34)
- técnicos
- Stigma huracanrana Boby Zavala (4:27)
- rudos
- Kamaitachi mask pull small package (3:48)
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:20
Notes: Referee is Tirantes.
Review: [ok] really dragged in the second fall, with the rudos not interested in much, and generally felt like a B match for most of the crew. Did pick up in the third fall, though not enough to raise my estimation of it. A banged up Kamaitachi taking it easy is probably a great idea, but there’s much better matches with him.
Match 2: Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Kráneo, Olímpico, Ripper
Arena Puebla, 06/29/2015
- Invasors
- Kraneo elbow drop Atlantis (3:53)
- Invasors
- Ripper tilt-a-whirl slam Delta (5:07)
- Olímpico cristo negro Guerrero Maya Jr. (5:10)
Winner: Invasors
Match Time: 9:03
Notes: Invasors have evidentially jumped the rudos. Referee is Bestia Negra.
Review: [ok] As one sided a match as you’ll get in CMLL, with the Invasors dominating to set up their trios title match. The técnicos got a short lived comeback in the third fall, but not a lot more. It made sense as a way to build up next week but the Invasors offense isn’t enough to build a whole match around.
Match 3: La Sombra © vs Gran Guerrero for the NWA World Middleweight Championship
Arena Puebla, 06/29/2015
- Sombra double moonsault (2:11)
- Pulpo Guerrero (0:54)
- Sombra double knee smash (9:02)
Winner: La Sombra
Match Time: 12:07
Notes: Sombra retains his title
Review: [below average] some aggravating combo of a mailed in lightning match and a Ultimo Guerrero (Lagunero?) style of “all the spots spot while laying on the mat for half a minute between big moves” big match. Gran Guerrero got no offense in the first two falls except winning the second fall finish with no set up. Not like he reversed something, it was just his time to win a fall. (Were the opener falls short? Of course they were!) The one thing about it being a nothing generic lightning match dressed up with a belt is when Sombra goes for his finish 3 minutes into the third fall, you can really believe such a lackluster match could end that early. It’s not a conventional method off building to a near fall, but it was effective. They could replay every move in the third fall without disrupting the flow of the match because there was no flow to match. I did not like this match, nope.
