Lucha Underground trios tournament ends tonight, Sugehit/Nayumiya,

CMLL (TUE) 04/21/2015 Arena México [CMLL, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Acero & Fantasy b Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Cancerbero, Metálico, Raziel b Flyer, Leono, Metatrón
3) Hombre Bala Jr. b Disturbio [lightning] (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
Bala won in 7:16.
4) Goya Kong, La Vaquerita, Princesa Sugehit b Amapola, La Seductora, Narumiya
Vaquerita replaced Skadi. Straight falls. Sugheit challenged for a title match.
5) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Marco Corleone b Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero, Terrible
Delta & Maya beat Niebla prior to their title match on Sunday.
6) Bárbaro Cavernario, Negro Casas, Shocker b Atlantis, Blue Panther, Stuka Jr.
Negro snuck in a foul on Atlantis to set up the win.

Main event will continue on. Sugehit ends up getting the title shot, which makes Saturday’s win by Silueta random.

Lucha Underground tonight (episode 24 of 39) is named “Trios Champions”. Matches announced for the show

  • Pentagon Jr. vs Sexy Star (Pentagon interview)
  • Cage, King Cuerno, Texano Jr. vs Big Ryck, Killshot, the Mack vs Angelico, Ivelisse, Son of Havoc in the Lucha Underground Trios Championship (early clip here)

There’s also another Johnny Mundo/Alberto el Patron run-in. Alberto wasn’t around for this block for tapings, but they’ve kept him around with this speech.

Those possessing an ability to count may notice that’s only two matches. The trios tournament goes longer than you’d expect. It was a fantastic live experience and hopefully will come across as well on TV. (Expect a lot of “this is what I thought when I was there” messages on Twitter.)

This is another ‘chapter break’ episode. There’s definitely things which happen here which spur things forward, but the end of the tournament and the resolution of the Pentagon/Sexy Star issue (for now) makes this feel like a mini PPV.

Aeroboy & Violento Jack won the X-LAW Tag Team championship in Tijuana on Friday. Main event saw Pagano give Nicho a martinete and the ref stop the match. AAA (ran out of stretchers in an injury angle), CMLL (Blue Panther faking a knockout) and Tijuana (match stopped due to severe injury with medics running in) have all referenced Perro Jr.’s death in their own special too soon ways. Local wrestler Angel Negro Jr. unmasked himself and announced his surprise retirement in the undercard and I’m not sure he has the wrong idea.

RobViper has highlights of 10/27/06 CMLL, 10/20/06 CMLL, 12/01/06 CMLL, 11/24/06 CMLL, 12/08/2006 CMLL and 12/15/06 CMLL.

+LuchaTV has highlights of from the DTU/Boom show: Golden Magic vs Dinamic Black vs Arez vs Belial vs Pesadilla vs Draztick Boy, Freelance & Mike Segura vs Ciclope & Miedo Extremo and Black Terry vs X-Fly vs Rocky Santana vs Tony Rivera vs Paranoiko vs Makabre.

The LA Times has an article on Lucha Underground. It’s a nice profile of the promotion from the second to last set of tapings for this season. There’s no details about the future, the subject is not brought up. There’s also a feature on a local mask maker.

Multimedios Deportes says Laredo Kid will be heading to NXT in June, as long as he passes his medical exams. WWE takes those exams serious – Willie Mack revealed (I think here) yesterday his NXT stint was cut short because his medical tests revealed a knee injury and blood pressure issues – but it’s also the last step before starting there. The common thread between Laredo and the two Hispanic wrestlers announced as signing a couple weeks ago is all have US passports.

Segunda Caida reviews Lucha Underground episode 22 and Rey Bucanero & Ultimo Guerrero vs Satanico & Averno.

A documentary on Arena Azteca Budokan and the Moreno family was shown at UNAM yesterday. There’s quotes from the family and director as well.

PBS has a short film on Irma Gonzalez. I think this was one done a few years ago because I remember seeing it before, but there are a lot of lucha documentaries so maybe I’m getting them confused.

Nitro is heading back to France’s APC promotion for a weeklong training session, July 6 to the 13th.

Violento Jack talks about his goal of being the longest reigning DTU champion ever. He’s got about 40 days to go.

LA Park on Azteca El Hormiguero, who’s been having a lot of wrestling guests.

Comando Boricua threatened to destroy all the CMLL wrestlers.

Bucanero Infernal & Fantasma del Espacio won the new XWW tag team titles in Arena Xalapa.

SuperLuchas looks back a 1974 show in Ciudad Juarez which drew 16,000 people.

Ripper talks about his career.

El Hijo del Santo is doing a lot of appearances for Victoria.

R de Rudo looks at luchadors inspired by comic books.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 04/28/2015 Arena México
1) Acero & Fantasy vs Pequeño Universo 2000 & Pequeño Violencia
2) Flyer, Magnus, Oro Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Canelo Casas, Hijo del Signo
3) Hombre Bala Jr., Starman, Súper Halcón Jr. vs Nitro, Okumura, Sangre Azteca
4) Narumiya © vs Princesa Sugehit [CMLL-REINA INTL]
first defense
5) La Máscara, La Sombra, Stuka Jr. vs Felino, Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
6) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Dragon Lee vs Negro Casas, Shocker, Vangellys

Main event repeats Casas, Shocker, Atlantis and Blue Panther, still points to a tag title match to come.

No lightning match because of the title match. There’s no lightning match on Sunday either, so I’m not sure what (or if) they’ll post anything.

CMLL (TUE) 04/28/2015 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Flash I & Forastero vs El Cuatrero & Sansón
2) Magnum, Molotov, Soberano Jr. vs El Rebelde, Maléfico, Metálico
3) Esfinge, Gallo, Tritón vs Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado
4) Marco Corleone, Super Porky, Titán vs Mr. Águila, Mr. Niebla, Thunder
5) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. © vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]
first defense

Sky Team defend against almost former champions – Gran Guerrero in for Niebla Roja.

That semimain is maybe not the best use of Titan. Gran Guerrero appears to be the only rudo in his 20s in the top 2 matches on either Tuesday show.

  1. According to Cassandro’s facebook, he suffered a minor stroke while driving and got in a minor car accident.

  2. Kinda odd but they don’t sell Victoria near my place, been going out of my way to get some cans, but they don’t have the lucha ones yet (probably won’t, maybe limited to some markets, although they do have last year Modelo’s national soccer team promo packs in discount isle)

It does look as if Victoria has been working lucha for a while though…
