updated 09/19 Arena Mexico anniversary show

CMLL’s Hi5 site lists a ‘official’ card for next Friday. Which is different, of course.

CMLL (FRI) 09/19 Arena Mexico
1) Alex Koslov, La Sombra, Maximo vs Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Texano Jr.
2) Volador Jr., Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
3) Dos Caras Jr., Hector Garza, Marco Corelone vs Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr., Mr. Niebla
4) LA Park vs Dr. Wagner Jr.
5) Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero vs Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt [CMLL TRIOS]
6) Blue Panther vs Villano V [mask]
* Mistico and Perro Aguayo will be in their corners.

MOVED UP: Volador Jr., Hector Garza
IN: LA Park
OUT: Rey Bucanero, X-Pac

You know, Hi5 has a journal option that updates your friends when you post messages. OR, you could just put news in your Interest box, as was done here. I believe this is a legit lineup, but I’m waiting to update my records until they post it on their official site.

So why is X-Pac is gone? Did someone realize too late that he was from the US and they couldn’t find a way to say he was actually from Italy? Poor Rey Bucanero.

This is low on the issues here, but back when Mascara/Fantsama/Hector team won the trios titles, I didn’t like the idea because CMLL doesn’t see the younger guys on the same level as Hector and wouldn’t book them together. They proved me wrong for a while, but when push came to shove, it was more important to have Hector work a(n equally irrelevant) third match than keep them together. I’m sure I’m overthinking this – Ephesto’s still teaming with Avenro & Mephisto like they didn’t just kick him to the curb, so it’s pretty clear all the midcard stuff isn’t done with any plan of following thru.

Obviously, advance ticket sales haven’t been what they were hoping, or they wouldn’t be making sure Mistico and Perro would be there (and upstaging whatever mask loss goes down), nor would they be bringing Park back to play off the Dr. Wagner feud neither side really has any interest in resolving.

  1. We couldn’t keep La Sombra with Volador in the segunda to at least ensure SOME entertainment? The guy main events more shows than Mascara/Fantasma’s kid. Ridiculous.

Parka/Wagner didn’t work in Arena Mex last time so I doubt it will this time although I’m sure they’ll try to do their usual brawl all over type match. That match usually either really gets over or totally bombs. But really, why do this? The feud isn’t going to a mask match obviously and neither guy has a title to put up in the future. It’s a special attraction match leading to nothing. I never thought I’d say this but… I wish Bucanero/X-Pac were still on the show.

And the point of having seconds in the main event is? All it does is spell out:

HI FANS PAYING MONEY HOPING TO SEE A CLEAN MASK MATCH. WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT THERE WILL BE A SCREWJOB AND WE AREN’T EVEN GOING TO HIDE THAT FACT FROM YOU. BE PREPARED FOR INTERFERENCE GALORE. OH, AND YES WE’RE DOING THIS BECAUSE WE REALIZED 9 DAYS BEFORE THE SHOW THAT OUR MAIN EVENT WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH EVEN THOUGH WE HAD OVER A YEAR TO PREPARE.

So fucking stupid. Do they really think fans are gonna pay the huge prices to watch Mistico and Perrito stand at ringside?

All joking aside – it’s time for a booking change. The current guys have had their glory and now are just desperately trying to hang on by throwing anything at the wall. Let them take their hat and enjoy a nice vacation.

The other guy that needs to leave pronto is Rey Bucanero. I don’t think AAA is a good place for him so I don’t know what he’d do if he left but someone in CMLL definitely hates his guts.

  2. man it sucks that they yanked the Rey/X-Pac match off the card. i was really lookin forward to that one. at least they replaced it with another singles match instead of just slapping together another 6-man.

  3. @Rob: “The other guy that needs to leave pronto is Rey Bucanero. I don’t think AAA is a good place for him so I don’t know what he’d do if he left but someone in CMLL definitely hates his guts.”

Where do you want him to go? TNA? LOL! All kidding aside, I’m not sure if the alternatives (AAA or anywhere else) is a good thing right now. Its bad timing right now, but he really should have left back when they split Guerreros Del Infierno.

I was looking forward to the Rey/Waltman match too, but I thought they were rushing into it and by the next show, they’d be back to being booked in random trios matches. I’d prefer some build-up to Rey/Waltman that would give some fans more reason to look forward to their first singles match. Not sure if they plan on doing that at the anniversary show or any upcoming shows.

  4. With CMLL’s current situation, don’t be shocked if Ultimo and Rey end up at least part time in TNA. They tried out in Laredo/Corpus Christi. I’m not in any way comparing CMLL and TNA, I’m just saying the possibilty is there.

  5. They’d need permission from CMLL b/c if they left w/o it, Paco is a VERY unforgiving man.

Ultimo is actually pretty connected within the promotion and is involved in the training of guys and such so I doubt he’d leave even for part-time any time soon.

  6. I’m not surprised they changed the lineup, in fact, I guess we all knew changes were going to be made but they were for the worse, people don’t care for Villano losing his mask (that’s what 99.9% think will happen) so it doesn’t make any sense changing the whole card if they still leave that match happening as the only “important” match.

CMLL must be pretty desperate to have LA Park back after his failed angle with Erik Morales, the financing guy for Hijo del Santo…
