Cachorro, Dragon Lee, Tritón vs Misterioso Jr., Sangre Azteca, Skándalo: Welcome back to the real world. The En Busca de un Idolo 3/4 get eaten up by the boring rudos forever and a day, because CMLL doesn’t really pay attention to what’s working. This was an absurdly long match for this spot, to the point where I think they might have actually been told to go long because they were only airing four matches and dragged things out to make time (except that’s far more planning than usual.) This was really the rudos match, but at least the right team won. Triton got about one spot but made it good. Dragon Lee’s finish didn’t look good and maybe shouldn’t have been tried with one good arm.
Estrellita © vs Zeuxis for the Mexican National Women’s Championship: They tried to have an epic match and did many of the spots of a much better match, but it felt like the match was playing at 2/3rds or 3/4ths speed and a lot of the moves didn’t have the impact they were looking for. Sometimes that was just missing them by a little bit, sometimes it was the luchadoras just shrugging off the last action to get onto the next one. (Using the package piledriver in the first fall was not well thought out as well.) Estrellita in particular tried really hard; she knows what it she wants it to look like, she’s just doesn’t have the tools to make the match that way. I was kind a little disappointed by Zeuxis, who did not seem sharp here, but I’m also willing to chalk it up as an Estrellita issue if she can do better another time.
Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Marco Corleone vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Felino, Rey Escorpión: Extended build to Dragon Rojo and Rey Escorpion breaking up, with the cameras missing the finishes. It’s a shame Escorpion got hurt and couldn’t be around to complete the break up the following week, because they both did a good enough job of building the characters up. I liked how Dragon Rojo didn’t blow up at first, just didn’t understand what his pal Rey Escorpion was doing. There wasn’t really anything wrong with the rest of the match except it wasn’t much interesting.
Ángel de Oro, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Euforia, Hechicero: Best match of the night on a show with no standounts. Everything was solid, and there was a little bit more of it (even though Angel de Oro is still stuck in his rut.) The long Hechicero sequences in the first fall were fun, coming of as if Valiente and Volador were testing out Hechicero to see exactly what he could do. And Hechicero can do a lot, moving Volador around the the same ease if he was a life size Volador doll and selling for him all the same. Hechicero fit in fine with the upper level rudo tag team spots, as everyone figured he would. Foul at the end came a bit out of nowhere.
