Fuego, Stigma, Tritón vs Morphosis, Olímpico, Virus: Puebla randomly airing on 52MX seems like it must be “TVC Deportes and CMLL may be breaking up” season again. I hate this season. There was really no special reason to air this match; they did get talk about Fuego going to Japan but that’s never treated as a big deal, if there’s meant to be a Stigma/Virus feud neither guy knew of it here, and it really felt like guys taking an off night. Maybe more than rudos than the técnicos, since Fuego was using repeated missile dropkick as a weardown tactic, but Olímpico and Morphosis weren’t doing much and Virus couldn’t carry it enough for his side. Nothing went wrong, and I couldn’t even figure out where Stigma got hurt (he didn’t look it at the end, but the newspaper recap said he did – of course, the newspaper also had Sagrado in this match) so it was executed fine, there just wasn’t much executed.

La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Shocker: Indesables as brawling destructive forces sure beats Indesables as luchadors who don’t care about the match they’re in. First fall especially felt like this whole bit has turned a corner. Sombra, Rush and La Mascara were still acting like rudos, but they were all just destroying the opposition too, and it seemed like a real battle for Shocker’s team to get back into this. (Niebla Roja spent the whole match surprised when he got anything in on Sombra.) The Guerreros working as técnicos doesn’t work as well as Peste Negra, but their refusal to put up with the Indesable’s shenanigans made them come off as the good guys. I don’t know if these random trios encounters are going to develop into a trios title match between the two teams, but they might have something there. Really an anticlimatic finish takes it down a notch, though La Mascara needs as many fouls as he can get.
Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero vs Blue Panther & Cachorro [Copa Express, semifinal]: Usual quick tournament match. I guess the En Busca de un Idolo tournament has shown you can have a really interesting match in a short bit of time, but this was not that. The Panthers were the ones I wanted to see here, and they really didn’t get a lot of the match. Cachorro did get a couple of his highlight spots in, but both Panthers were squashed in the end.
Cavernario & Mr. Niebla vs Atlantis & Titán [Copa Express, semifinal]: This has even less! Highlight might have been Zacarias’ caveman outfit. Cavernario got to crazy a little bit, but only a little but because they had to get this one done int hree minutes. He did catch Titan’s dive well. Niebla barely got in more than a dance before being sucked into Titanics
Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero vs Atlantis & Titán [Copa Express, final]: Atlantis pulled UG’s mask off so badly that they had to break out the blurring tool not two minutes into this match, and yet the referee still missed it. Titan basically super bombed himself and then fell for the exact same thing from Gran Guerrero a minute later. It was so obviously absurd that announcers picked up on it. Even Guerrero tag matches have a formula, and this met that – powerbombs with feet on the ropes and such. At least Gran Guerrero is getting good at catching dives.
