recap

taped 2014-05-24 @ Explanada del Parque Bicentenario, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas

no headscissors for you

Ludxor, Niño Hamburguesa, Venum vs Carta Brava Jr., El Apache, Fresero Jr.: It’s not just that they showed this match and not the semimain that’s strange. It’s that they showed entrances for this match and didn’t show the semimain. Second time a Psycho Clown match has been pulled in the build up to Verano de Escandalo. (They did cut out the enterances for later on matches.) Meanwhile, this match with awesome flippy-do luchadors Ludxor & Venum is built around getting over the agility of Niño Hamburguesa. Oh well. Ludxor and Venum didn’t have a great match themselves, Fresero not working great with them, but this was most just a quick Niño Hamburguesa exhibition.

Mascarita Presley

El Elegido, Faby Apache, Mascarita Sagrada, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Machine Rocker, Mamba, Mini Abismo Negro, Taya Valkyrie: The second half of this match was pretty good; good weird match ups and lots of action. Faby worked well, though they’re back to Tirantes refusing to count her pins or submissions. Not enough Machine Rocker – just one good sequence with Pimpi in this match. Finished seemed kind of random but I guess the friendly fire dive was leading to técnicos having no one to make the save for Mascarita.

Marvin corner tope

Ricky Marvin vs Aerostar, Axel, Psicosis, Steve Pain, Eterno for the AAA World Cruiserweight Number One Contenders Match match: The process for watching this sort of match is watching all the pinfall breaks up patiently, observing a three count, noting the match is in fact an elimination match, and then screaming at my TV. My TV’s done nothing wrong, I should stop yelling at it. Everyone but Ricky and Axel broke up a pin, and Axel probably only didn’t because he wasn’t in long enough to do so. (That was nice.) Eterno and Steve Pain got to wrestle each other, and they probably wanted to do that more than have their match make any sense so I guess more power to them.

not the best catch

No explanation of why Daga wasn’t here (though it was very clear he was still champion), why Ricky Marvin was here, or what was totally meant to be going on. Aerostar did good to finish after hurting his thigh on his dive, after Ricky Marvin made like Pierroth and just let the diver hit him without catching. Not sure Ricky knew how the dive worked. There a lot of extenuating factors, but Ricky’s yet to be the Ricky Marvin of ChilangaMask (and probably won’t ever be, given AAA is giving him different sorts of matches.) The last few minutes of Pain/Aerostar wasn’t as sharp as it could’ve been with a healthy Aerostar, but they deserve credit for coming thru on the finish. Some of the spots surprisingly got little reaction, and the match was not as good as it read on paper, but the crowd was happy with the result

Warrior has good aim

Bengala, Fénix, La Parka vs Averno, Black Warrior, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo: An AAA main event, at half to three-quarters speed. The large crowd definitely wasn’t motivating some of the guys to work any harder and this was a very rote match. Post match was a lot more interesting, with Anarquia taking huge bumps for our mystery man in white and the crowd exploding for the Místico mask.

  1. I watched this morning – thought Myzteziz/Sin Cara looked fantastic at the end. Amazing how he and Averno just lift things so well
