CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico): 2014-04-05

recap

Ladies sneak in the cheap kicks

taped 2014-03-28 @ Arena México
Dark Angel, Estrellita, Marcela vs Dalys, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit: No feuds are ever allowed to die in México, so what aired of this match was dedicated to revving up Dalys/Marcela again after the hair match. They were okay, though Princesa Blanca & Dark Angel seemed better in their opening exchange. Sugheit and Estrellita were pretty much edited out. Marcela is awful angry at Dalys for someone she beat in an apuesta match, but that appears to be going around. See: next match!

people keep diving into the poor part of the barricade

Volador Jr. vs La Sombra: GREAT. So apparently the best rudo to get Volador over as a técnico is life long técnico Sombra. Or maybe this was actually Rush sneaking around as Sombra, because this was an arrogant disrespectful Sombra we haven’t seen all much. It did transition into more typical Volador/Sombra battles in the third fall and it was edited significantly, but it felt like a different match than they’ve done before and very successful at what they wanted to accomplished. CMLL doesn’t seem to be giving up on Tecnico Hero Volador any time soon, and it actually worked here. The typical rudo crowd was cheering Sombra for his antics in the first fall, but they put together a match which got the crowd behind Volador at the end in a way they haven’t been with Casas or Ripper. It needed the Sombra personality shift to work, and it’d still better if long term if there was something more to Volador’s técnico character, but it worked for this match.

Volador’s now the one diving into the crowd
Sombra is a terrible nurse
Sombra defeated by gravity

don’t try this at home (or without Euforia)

Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero for the CMLL World Trios Championship: Disappointingly rushed. Not sure if it was editing, how the match was laid out or Volador/Sombra going long, but they were speeding thru this on TV and it didn’t come of as any big deal of a match. The first two falls were short, there was no convincing near falls in the third fall until the match was over, and Mascara Dorada felt almost non-existent in this match. They did generally fine with the time they had, though there wasn’t really much teamwork outside of the Estetas usual dives, and there wasn’t much new brought to the match. This definitely felt like a match which would’ve been much better on a Sunday or even Tuesday where both teams would’ve been given time to breath. On the positive side, it was good to see Euforia and Niebla Roja get the big win at the end, instead of just being along for an UG ride. (Ultimo Guerrero taking the only pinfall in this match would be an important story point elsewhere.) Babe Richard turning into an MMA referee and physically breaking up holds at the end of falls is the newest weird referee quirk.
