On their July 21st podcast, the NWA said NWA Mexcio will be running their first show on 08/30 @ Gimnasio Juan De La Barera.
No card is announced, but based on the talent listed, they’re just running the same NWA Pro group they’ve been running around the US. Guys like Rob Conway and X-Pac were mentioned, and Blue Demon’s obviously going to be there. CMLL and AAA wrestlers are invited to show up, but no partnership was announced so they’re very unlikely to be there.
The best part about the interview is going about Mexican fans not wanting three falls matches (which, I dunno) and the innovation of doing all one fall matches in Mexico (which, not so much.) It’s really not as much an issue of how many falls the match goes as using US psychology versus lucha libre style – if the NWA is going to do a lot of pairs matches building to a Hot Tag, they’re probably going to be disappointed with the reaction. And this is all beside the point, since it doesn’t matter how the crowd reacts unless they sell some tickets to get people to show up.
They also mentioned they’re getting on Azteca America (“NWA Mundo”?), but didn’t specific a day/time and I can’t find more info.
(thanks to J C, who emailed me about this like a week ago. So slow.)

I can’t see why in the world Azteca America would want NWA Mundo when they’re on the cusp of being able to get IWRG. I’m almost certain the if Azteca does get IWRG on Azteca Trece, they’ll retain US rights. So why bother with an upstart, with no history, shoddy track record, and all the other negatives that come with it?
Because it’s got the NWA name and at least in America, the NWA name is more powerful than the IWRG name. Plus NWA on Colurs or whatever that channel is can plug the show on that show.
With that said, I doubt either show gets on Azteca America.
@Tim: I don’t doubt that they’ll get IWRG, since it’s something involving “corporate” in Mexico.
So will I for sure get the IWRG Azteca 13 show?
Azteca America is not = to Azteca 13. They air their own programming, 13, 7 and 40 from Mexico, they could be airing IWRG right now if they were interested, actually, I checked it out since it was possible they had been doing it:

So, they probably won’t be airing IWRG regardless of it airing on Azteca 13.
@Rob: To the best of my knowledge, Azteca 13 and Televisa “Canal de las Estrellas” both air “as is” in Canada. Only shows pre-empted are ones they don’t have the rights to, which are few. I don’t see Azteca pre-empting IWRG.
OTOH, there’s a Azteca 13 feed… I think there might be a A7 one as well but one would need to find a non-Mexico City one to work.
@xuisaw: If Azteca America wants IWRG, they should be able to get it. Azteca America is a mix of 13, 7, and 40. They want Lucha, but it’s impossible to find a reliable provider of content. Who’s out there? TVC has a deal with Tu Vision. CMLL is on 52 and Fox. CMLL’s Saturday TV is Televisa, so Azteca America can’t get it. NWA Mexico is nothing. AAA was on Azteca America as LLL, but it failed when Pena left 52mx, and Azteca America could not afford to pay for a show produced just for them.
@xuisaw: KMSG is in Fresno. It’s a local Azteca affiliate, and it’s a Pappas station(Owner of Tu Vision, also in bankruptcy), so Robert is ok up in Canada. Robert gets 13 and 2(Televisa) afaik.
Azteca America picks and chooses shows from Azteca 7, 13, and 40, that they think will do well in the US. Naturally, they take the soccer games, and have the rights to Santos, and most other shows. I don’t think the IWRG people would care if Azteca retains international rights. It’s moot. Azteca America and TV Azteca are consolidating, with AA moving more production into the Mexico studios. If IWRG gets on 13, I’ll bet they get a shot on Azteca America.
I once suggested to the Azteca affilate in NYC, that they air the news from Azteca Puebla because there are just so many Mexicans from Puebla in NYC.
And I just remembered, Tim Luce, the talent buyer for elmexicano lives in Chicago, increasing cubs chance of seeing a live event.
I’m a big fan of the current direction of the NWA. So I’ve been following this story closely. Here are some quotes I’ve seen from David Marquez.
“Actually the Spanish broadcast is not strictly a Lucha program. It will feature the same talent as the English broadcast.”
“The Showcase on stand by and our deal with the network is that no new programming may not be distributed anywhere before its aired on their channel first. Although, this does not mean that we can’t release the matches in other languages in a first run situation. Many of you may know that we’ve made an agreement with up to 30 Azteca America channels and several Telemundo’s too. New versions of the Showcase has begun in McAllen, TX Ch. 40 and this week Houston, Dallas and I believe San Antonio come aboard… many of those matches have been seen on the English version already.”
