07/25: links

ESTO’s preview of the Leyenda de Plata final and the Gran Prix. As elsewhere, Chris Daniels is still listed as participating here.

SuperLuchas profiles AJ Styles (who I still figure is winning the Gran Prix) and Ultimo Guerrero in it’s Gran Prix preview coverage.

Everyone runs past lists of winners for both tournaments. Ovaciones does, and I’m too late to link to it. Kcidis hopes Perro just doesn’t win by a run in and/or a low blow, but that’s what I’m fully expecting to happen.

Meanwhile, AAA tapes in Queretaro tonight. Main event is Mesias and Vampiro getting 25 minutes this time. I wonder if that’s enough time for anyone to actually try to win the match? Chessman and Cibernetico team up, and Parka/Octagon face Kenzo/Electro in a bull terrier match for no discernible reason.

(Reforma via Jazzo) Dr. Wagner Jr. says he doesn’t have to honor his bet (of joining the Perros if he lost) from last week because it’s only valid if he got pinned or submitted. Still, Wagner is demanding the stipulation he’d earn by winning – he wants a mask vs hair match with Perro Jr. at the anniversary show, though using a cage or chains or something to keep everyone else out.

Perro Aguayo Jr. spills the secret of the Perros success: everyone, including all the fans and all the tecnicos, actualy want to be rudos, and the Perros are the only ones honest enough to be what they are at heart.

Tirantes Sr. is in some hot water. People are complaining that recent shows he’s promoted in Xalapa have been missing promised wreslters on a pretty regular basis, and they’re oraginized enough to get a paper to write about this. Looking at the list, it’s not completely Tirantes fault

not appearing
05/29: Zorro, Charly, Abismo – Charly was hurt by then, Abismo was MIA, and Zorro might have been hurt
07/09: Cibernetico, Zumbido, Scorpio – the last two had left AAA. Not sure about Cibvernetico
07/22: Konnan, Alan Stone, Psycho Circus – this, not so sure about.

Crowd chanted Fraud this past Wednesday when they got Kenzo instead of Konnan. I’d be thrilled if that happened. Tirantes Sr. responded by daring “anyone who has the courage to tell [Tirantes] was a fraud, do it to face and [Tirantes] would return his money.” The main fan quoted in the article immediately took Tirantes up on his offer, and things apparently got a little physical. That’s pretty definitely not the way to go.

A lot of it is just not getting updated cards out to the people after wrestlers were ruled out (and it’s very possible the locals didn’t get an updated lineup from the main office), but then you’ve also got to wonder who was going back the third time after being upset about the first two groups of noshows.

The LA Times has an article about lucha libre. It’s clearly published because of the AAA show, but that show is only mentioned as aside near the end. Newspapers are odd.

Dossier Polotico writes about an AAA spot show with Mocha Cota on the undercard

  1. SL did live results. Alex Shelley won the match for TNA by beating Ultimo Guerrero (mask yank). Surprising. Lots of the eliminations were rather surprising. Wagner was out of the match 3rd last which I never would have expected. Even Shocker survived longer than he did.

    buen torneo cmll

Almost full because they missed like half the bleachers…

  3. “Si la verdad es que estuvo muy bueno y la arena estaba llena.”

The pictures and TV will prove whatever needs to be proved. You don’t need to hope it’s not a sellout b/c Wagner worked the show so if it proves to have sold out or almost sold out you can still spin it to say everyone came to see Wagner wrestle those evil Americans.

  4. Alvin at ElMartinente:

“La arena estaba casi llena. Sólo una parte de la sección de gradas no tenía gente.”

Sounds like one section of the upper deck was missing people. Half the bleachers? Maybe the guy who said that only counted after Wagner got eliminated because everyone left before the main event.:)

  5. Messias vs Vampiro was a waste of 15 the first time the faced each other, so why waste 25 minutes for a second try.

I’m no Nastrodamos but I predict they’ll draw again and that will lead to a no time limit match. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
