06/18 Evening: X Cup, A4C, recaps

(notimex) Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero have their work visas! Still not believing it until they get to the ring. In the article, Rey’s asked if he talked to Alex Koslov about what TNA’s like, and Rey says “No, I don’t talk to girls.” Nothing addresses why they’re just getting their visas now.

SuperLuchas suggests that the blame for CMLL previous not making the TNA tapings last week might be with TNA – they didn’t get half of Team Japan or Doug Williams there either. (Then again, maybe they weren’t supposed to be there until this taping?)

This reminds me – if we’re to believe Averno is still participating in this tournament (and that article says yes), that means he’s gotta fly out to Guadalajara for the tag title match on Sunday, then probably back to Mexico City, then Orlando by Monday night unless someone thinks to get him a direct (and long flight.)

AAA (MON) 06/16 Arena Cuatro Caminos Nuevo Laredo [El Manana, main event]
1) Cinthia Moreno & Fabi Apache b La Diabólica & Mari Apache
2) Casandro, Hombre Sin Miedo, Magno b Escorpion Negro, Rey Escorpion, Tito Santana II
3) Cibernetico, Alan Stone, Sangre Chicana b Kenzo Suzuki, Antifaz, Mesias

(Notimex) Damian 666 is challenging the new trios champions already.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about 3 matches from 1992. Victor has recaps of the 06/01 (Sangre/Shadow) and 06/08 show.

CMLL’s posted Jucio Final’s cage match in 1 2 3 parts.

Does anyone know what music Vangelis is using in that clip?

  1. Dish Network filed with the FCC yesterday to switch to Echostar 2 which covers the US and Mexico. This will allow them to compete with SKY in Mexico, as Mexicans will be able to “see” Dish, and subscribe. Competition is good. Now MVS will have a PPV platform to offer WWE.

  2. I think Vangelis music is Ricky Martin’s Maria. El Mañana has a 7 minute clip!! They’re asking for photojournalist, so I’ll drop my resume and ask to be the one covering lucha…. hehehe…

  3. The constitution says that all communications in the Mexican territory are owned by the State and licensed to particular parties, even if the signal gets to Mexico, if the local authorities don’t let them, they won’t be allowed to make business here, and btw, foreigners can not own those kind of business, MVS would need to own 51% of the company…

  4. Doug Williams wasnt supposed to be there yet, as TNA did 2 shows in England after the tapings and that’s where Doug Williams qualified to be in the World X Cup. Mexico was supposed to be there though as they were set to be on the second taping.

  5. And, Televisa and Univision has postponed their July court date until September. I think Televisa is afraid of losing, and hopes Univision will make a better offer than the court will decide.

Yes, the Mexican gov’t can own the signal in their territory, but Dish and MVS are now one step closer to bringing Dish to Mexico. I don’t know the specifics about who owns what percentages.

  6. But a step closer is much different from “Mexicans will be able to “see” Dish, and subscribe. Competition is good. Now MVS will have a PPV platform to offer WWE.” since “now” could be years in the making, if it even eventuates at all…

  7. Joaquin Vargas(owner) of MVS already has his paperwork in order according to the reports.

When I say “see”, I mean that the satellite in the sky can cover both Mexico and the US, thus allowing customers to subscribe. It’s not a shortcut, my wording just makes it sound as such since

  8. Regardless, Ley Televisa already has pretty much assigned all of the signals to Televisa and Azteca (that’s why it’s so controversial and universally panned over here), so they would have to get the signals from them, so the satellite covering Mexico is nearly irrelevant.

  9. It’s not irrelevant. Ley Televisiva has assigned OTA channels and can license DBS companies to operate using satellites from other countries. As long as they get their taxes. Dish(Echostar) has taken the necessary steps and already has a Mexican company to operate the satellite to satisfy your government, which Vargas has been working on for years. I think it’s going to happen.

  10. We’ll see, but satellites covering the Mexican territory has going on for years, if not decades, but the only winners are guys selling hacked cards for users to watch everything for free (which many board guys use to watch WWE btw since they’re up to date with RAW and stuff)

  11. WAPA announced that they are expanding to Time Warner and Brighthouse cables Spanish digital tiers. So more people will be able to see WWC. Yay!

  12. WAPA has been on Brighthouse for a couple months already. Doesn’t make any difference to me since my cable got cut off anyways.

  13. Fabi and Mari are still fighting? I thought the Apaches and Billy Boy, Billy Apache, LOL!, were together?

  14. Tim, I believe you said you live in Orlando. That was the test-market for WAPA. WAPA was a success, and now it’s rolling out on a broader basis. Still, WWC is horrible. One time they had new footage of Abdullah stabbing someone in the head and putting his head in a toilet.

  15. Your right Keith. I think WWC airs Friday night’s here but the website says Saturday morning. I’ve seen some of the WWC stuff from this year. They usually air new matches and a couple classic matches.
