recap

taped 2013-03-26 @ Arena Mexico

Zayco destroyed

Molotov & Oro Jr. vs Espanto Jr. & Zayco: good openers. Both técnicos looked really smooth. Oro Jr. again is better than his experience and level would indicate, but Espanto kept up with him fine. It’d be great for one of the Gen12 rudos to attach to him, because he’s just missing a steady rival.

Hijo del Signo destroyed

Hombre Bala Jr., Stigma, Super Halcón Jr. vs Bobby Zavala, Disturbio, Hijo del Signo: A rematch is needed immediately. First fall was unusually and exceptionally sloppy, especially given how much Stigma and Bobby Zavala have worked together. Last two falls were Great, and would’ve easily pushed the entire match into that category if that first fall was even just okay. Everyone looked good, but it’s mostly just six young guys who’ve worked/trained with each other a lot doing all their crazy spots to each other, and winning back a crowd which had turned on them. The Halcón/Bala combo spots helped a lot, but Zavala came of it looking like the star.

Stigma, self destroyed

Guerrero Maya Jr., Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado vs Namajague, Puma, Shigeo Okumura: Fun match, if a bit on the short side and Guerrero Maya looking off (something just didn’t seem right even before his problems with Puma.) Namajague continues to add new spots and use his usual ones in different ways, and Puma worked well will Fiebre Amarilla.

Buddhist Monk Namajague (also, Puma has horrible aim)

Atlantis, Blue Panther, Diamante Azul vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: About the match you’d expect it to be, with maybe less comedy than expected in the first couple falls but making up for in the third. Formula match with some good sequences. CMLL would have a hard time doing a break up story with Peste Negra, since half of their comedy is accidentally hitting each other, being angry about it, and immediately moving on. I don’t think there’s any chance CMLL is going to break them up, so all should be fine.

teamwork!

Ángel de Oro, Shocker, Valiente vs Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Psicosis: Title challenge came out nowhere; Aguila and Shocker was the focus here, but there was no sense the técnico side was more than a randomly generated team, and no reason to believe they’re winning the trios titles. The match was okay, as was the Shocker/Aguila feud, it just didn’t feel particularly compelling.
