02/21 project update

I’d like to do regular ‘what I’m working on that’s not news’ post every so often, just to let everyone know what’s actually being worked on and what I could use some help with. (And so I can remember what I was trying to do two days ago.) We’ll see how this goes.

What’s going on:

– Changed the name from CMLLBlog.com to LuchaBlog.com. Still lacking in creativity, but that’s nothing new. At least no one can wonder why I write so much about AAA, except for all the normal reasons. (All your old links will continue to work.)

(this gets long and list-y; you’ve been warned)

– Probably dumping the IWRG Roster Page – even with the CMLL ban, their roster is always in flux and would have to be updated very often to be of any use. I think a (notable) Independents Page, with the IWRG regulars and the UMLL guys and names from Tijuana and Monterrey and wherever else might be better, though a lot more work to figure out. I haven’t exactly decided what I’m going to be doing there.

– Birth Dates, Debut Dates added to wrestler info. You can see the results over on the right sidebar on the main page, if you scroll far enough down. Birth Dates were something I had planned in when I originally put together to the database, but never really applied. It’s much better organized.

I’ve currently only put in dates for those people I have listed on either the CMLL or AAA rosters. It’s just a lot of retyping from the wiki, and working thru the dates I’ve got. I think you’ll notice a lot of people who are listed as debuting on the first day of a month (or the first day of the year) because we’re missing exact days. There also those who haven’t revealed their birth year – that’s supposed to show up as age “?” but may turn up as “108” if I didn’t do something right.

If you have birth dates or debut dates for any of these people, or if you find them out somehow, the best way to get me the info would be to just edit into the wiki and I can grab it from there.

* Updating/Adding Pictures to the roster pages. I think these (CMLL, AAA) are still useful for people new and trying to figure out who’s who and I’ve been trying to put up more accurate pictures of people who’ve changed their look.

For a lot of these, I should be able to just grab stills from TV, it’s just a matter of having a list some place to remember which ones I need. (So there’s that list.) If you can find them first, that also works. I need a shot of these people looking towards the camera, un-obscured if possible.

* Updating TV Indexes

The CMLL and AAA TV shows listing should now be updated up to this week’s shows. The * links next to matches should link to the correct pages (or will soon.)

I want to take the recap links from the old, neglected, nearly forgotten 1991 – 2005 lucha recap links pages and link them on the TV Show list where it’d be much helpful/visible. I’ve done it for some years (AAA 1993), but I’ve hit a completely roadblock on the 1996 recaps – none of what is recapped is fitting with what was supposed to air. I’m not sure what’s going on at all there.

Instead being confused for all time, I think I’m going to try to work the other way, newest to oldest. Instead of continuing to use my own handcoded indexes, I’m going to have to figure a way to program the database to auto generate those pages (preserving secret DVD notations) so the TV indexes continually get updated with new stuff instead of random mass updates.

* As I’m working on all these things with the database, I don’t have a big ongoing project for the wiki at the moment, just the normal janitorial duties.

Once I take care of this other stuff, I do have ideas for what to do next with the wiki.
