06/09: Mexico, Lineups, GdR

CMLL (FRI) 06/08 Arena Mexico [ESTO, ovaciones]
1) Fantasy & Tzuki b Pequeño Violencia & Pierrothito
2) La Sombra, Mascara Purpura, Super Nova b Euforia, Misterioso II, Nosferatu
3) Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero b Damián 666, Halloween, Terrible
4) Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V DQ Atlantis, Olímpico, Sangre Azteca
5) Místico b Mr. Águila [LdP, final]
6) Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Shocker b Black Warrior, Tozcano, Último Guerrero

Tecnico sweep, if I’m reading this right (and if the Villanos are meant to be tecnicos, which they may not be.)

Mistico’s a two time winner (and I am WRONG.) Leyenda de Plata reads bad, especially in the Ovaciones version – Mistico won the second fall with a bad ‘rana and there were more problems in the third before La Mistica. Perro showed up after the match to say he’s returning in 3-4 weeks (though he won’t be 100% then either) and he still wants the stips match.

Villanos won in straight falls, winning the first on their own, and getting the second by DQ when Ultimo interfered and the Guerreros yanked the Villanos masks. Villano IV hurt his ankle and the sources disagree on the seriousness of the injury. He’s not booked for next week, which would seem to be a clue.

CMLL (TUE) 06/12 Arena Coliseo
1) Mini Olimpico & Ultimo Dragoncito vs Mini Violencia & Pierrothito
2) Sombra de Plata, Tigre Blanco, Tony Rivera vs Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Ramstein
3) Lady Apache, Luna Magica, Princesa Blanca vs Hiroka, La Nazi, Mima Shimoda
4) Felino, Leono, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Eclipse, Misterioso II
5) Dos Caras Jr., Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Black Warrior, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000

Leono in the semimian? Eh. They’ve managed to work three feuds in the main event, though none seem to be moving.

CMLL (FRI) 06/15 Arena Mexico
1) Bam Bam & Mini Fantasy vs Fire & Mini Mr. Aguila
2) Leono, Mictlan, Valiente vs Goto, Okumura, Virus
3) La Sombra, Mascara Purpura, Maximo vs Ephesto, Olimpico, Sangre Azteca
4) Damian 666, Halloween, Villano V vs Atlantis, Tozcano, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Blue Panther, Mistico, Negro Casas vs Lizmark Jr., Mr. Aguila, Terrible

Lizmark returns to the feud Mistico says he doesn’t care about. Villano V without a III or a IV. Sombra is moving up the cards.

CMLL (SUN) 06/17 Arena Mexico
1) Bracito de Oro & Tzuki vs Mini Damian 666 & Mini Halloween
2) Dark Angel, India Sioux, Sahori vs La Seductora, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) La Mascara, Mictlan, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Heavy Metal, Shocker vs Damian 666, Halloween, Terrible
5) Mistico & Negro Casas vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]

Special Sunday Arena Mexico show. I have no idea what’s going to happen in the main event at this point, but I’m leaning towards a title change – no interaction between Mistico and the Infernales on the lead up. La Seductora is the one women in the Mexican Women’s Cibernetico who never got a trios match, so she does now.

CMLL CAN52 GdR #81
06/03 Coliseo: Dark Angel, Diana La Cazadora, Lady Apache b Amapola, Medusa, Princesa Sujei
06/03 Coliseo: Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Negro Casas b Atlantis, Olimpico Mephisto, Tarzan Boy
No feature, at least in the first segment.

  1. mistico wins sucks ass, the next week cards sounds sucks expect the sunday mexico one, with mephisto%averno win the tags titles (plz, plz, plz!)

  2. Bam Bam is back!

Weak lineups all around. If Villano IV is really hurt, this just proves even more why CMLL shouldn’t have brought back those old stiffs.

La Sombra is certainly moving up fast. I hope the crowd doesn’t turn on him. Even Mistico had a 4 month window of working segundas and terceras before being launched into main events.

Assuming CMLL gets their full 2 hour TV block today, I’m expecting:
    – Arena Mex segunda
    – LdP
    – Arena Mex main

So here’s hoping FSE gets the Coliseo segunda w/ Valiente!

  3. So here’s hoping FSE gets the Coliseo segunda w/ Valiente!
    “””””””””

    It did.

  4. WOO-HOO! That means the normal show will have 3 Arena Mexico matches at least. Please no Villanos!:D

Did you watch the IWRG show on TVC?

  5. Yep.

It was waaaay below expectations, same ladies match from always, weak trios title match, green+washed up combo and a main event taken directly from GdR/FSE.

  6. Yes, Valiente appeared on TV. This gladiator is one of the very best, he could easily be matching terceras onf Fridays in Mexico Catedral.

This last appearance on TV was perfect!

  7. Yeah, I was planning on watching it via that feed today so looks like a no-go.:( Soccer seems to be almsot over though. Perhaps it’s only lagging b/c tons of people are watching the soccer and it’ll improve when the wrestling comes on.

  8. Haha, I doubt a USA vs T&T soccer match would have 30% of the viewers then lucha has, well, who knows…

Villanos made it to the tv show, no main event this time, again!

  9. Nova/Purpura/Sombra vs Misterioso/Euforia/Nosferatu

    Villanos vs Guerreros

    Mistico vs Aguila

Shame, I wanted to see that opener. Also a shame, I wanted to see the main event.

  10. Yeah… no main…

I’m watching the show and Sombra is not ready yet for tercera next week… He still makes awkward moves and he evidenced his inexperience atthe end of 2nd round. People noticed it and didnt like it, you could hear their claims.

  11. *LMAO* Villano III is so old and pathetic that he needs help climbing the ropes. RETIRE!

  12. I’m watching the show and Sombra is not ready yet for tercera next week… He still makes awkward moves and he evidenced his inexperience atthe end of 2nd round. People noticed it and didnt like it, you could hear their claims.
    “””””””””””

Yeah, they ought to put him in the main event so he could be with guys like Perros del Mal, Sagradado, Lizmark Jr so that his awkwardness is less noticeable.

  13. I want to make a comment about how it’s harder to hit difficult spots so Sombra takes the chance of looking stupid at times whereas the main eventers just have to do simple things that can’t be blown… but then I remembered Aguila’s double stomp from two weeks ago. HE COULDN’T EVEN STEP ON A GUY PROPERLY!

  14. Well the only thing that i could say from that match is that Misterioso has the coolest mask in the world :)

And what looked to be the old rey/psicosis monkey flip series into an assisted top rope asai moonsault will no doubt be pretty neat when we see it at more than about 0.5 frames per second!

As for Purpura – meh, he’s too much of a pussy to hit tonillos from the top. :D

Momentos is a complete and utter waste of time when you don’t show clips of the opener. Especially when you’re filling it with such common, routine spots like Wagners dive off the ramp…. and even worse, la Atlantida. Fans have been seeing that every 2nd week for about the last 18 years FFS!

  15. Henrik, I agree with you, but thats what people like! Remember we’re in TV.

Bye the way, Villanos really suck. They look really fake, slow and fat. Villano III is terrible, not only physically, but also as a wrstler. By last week’s comments I was expecting a lot more from them but they’ve been dissapointing….

Olimpico is TERRIBLE acting… well, all wrestlers! This fucking low budget clips thay make before each match, ha ha ha! Terrible.

  16. Whats more gross – Villano III’s forehead?

    … or chin? :)

    +++++++++++++++++++++

BOTH! His look is disgusting, he should llok for another mask and come out with another name and cover that fucking ugly face.

  17. So where can I get these feeds you guys are talking about? I’m sick of watching AAA and Darkhouse sucks.

  18. So where can I get these feeds you guys are talking about? I’m sick of watching AAA and Darkhouse sucks.
    “”””””””””””

    Ahhhhhh… the thread killing comment!!

  19. He insulted AAA so I’m not telling.

Nobody is hiding anything, cubs gave out the link a couple months ago in an update and earlier in the thread Henrik said the XEJ TV feed is down.

  20. I actually liked todays AAA episode. Super Calo and Grandpa Apache are just making it great. I just skip the Mexican powers match.

  21. Guys, come on… AAA sucks… CMLL is the only respected company regarding lucha. I’m starting to respect a little bit IWRG, but right now I’m 100% CMLL.

  22. You’re right, CMLL is considered the better wrestling group, the same way people considered NWA better than WWF in the mid to late 80’s. Comparing Flair, Anderson, Rock n’ Roll’s, Midnight Express, Funk to Ultimate Warrior, Hercules, Honky Tonk, Dino Bravo, etc.. is like comparing Cibernetico, Secta, La Parka Jr., to Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Black Warrior, and other top CMLL stars. Some Mexicans call AAA “Triste A”.

I’ll admit that the ring work in AAA is not even close to what CMLL can put on. CMLL might have the best crew in North America. But AAA puts on interesting TV, and attracts an audience in that way. CMLL appeals to the smarter fans who “know better” while AAA appeals to the masses. Plus, AAA has less of a presence than ever in the media capital of Mexico-Mexico City, giving CMLL an advantage. CMLL might be the number one group in the world for live attendance, even passing WWE in that area. Owning your own venues is a tremendous advantage.

  23. Both AAA and CMLL should be waaaaay ahead of WWE or anyone else for that matter in terms of attendance.

  24. Ugh, I can’t stand the slideshow mode that xejtv is in now. Might’ve been a good thing that I missed the CMLL show yesterday due to being preempted by soccer.

Lol, Kenzo’s new theme is even worse than the last one.

  25. The lower ticket price for a show with CMLL or AAA guys would be around 8 dollars, maybe less if only a couple of guys are main eventing and the rest is local guys, that’s more than what WWE tickets cost in the USA if you compare minimum wages, 8 dollars are 2 days of work over here, WWE house shows ringside goes for 40 dollars (or so I’ve heard), which is less than a day of work.

  26. I remember going to a AAA taping in Queretaro in 2000 and tickets were exactly 8 and 6 dollars with no kids prices. I was in Monterrey last summer a week after a AAA taping and tickets were like $20 ringside, and no kids price according to a leftover poster on a utility pole. I forget what they charged for gradas.

I remember Meltzer had box office numbers for a recent WWE tour of Mexico. I think they did like $800,000 in the Sports Palace. That’s like $55 avg. ticket.

  27. I think that in Coliseo Mty the cheaper are about 6 dollars, in fact, in Solidaridad, most of the shows are 50 cents!! Some of them are even “free” since they go for a buck and they supposedly give you a beer for the ticket (at the end you won’t get it, but the hook is that).

But those are weekly shows, WWE doesn’t run weekly shows, so it is not comparable.

  28. Exactly. CMLL could charge $55 per seat if they ran Arena Mexico 4 times a year but they don’t, they run weekly. WWE is a novelty attraction in Mexico.

  29. Oh, about Coliseo Mty, those were the Sunday shows, I remember the Konnan Big vs Poncho Denigris tickets range going all the way to 500+ pesos… and the place was packed that time.

  30. Should have been more specific. When I was in Monterrey last summer, I was there just days after a AAA taping for Televisa, not the local Llaves y Candados stuff. The AAA taping I barely missed is the one where Ciber arrived in the long white limo and everyone jumped him backstage, and Pena did what might have been his last angle where he got physically involved. That’s why I saw some posters still up with the high prices.

As far as Soli, I just read some complaints about the high prices for the IWRG show. $15 USD for gradas. It depends on the lineup.

At Coliseo MTY, I don’t know if they are still doing 2-for-1 gradas discount for the weekly shows.

  31. Maybe Peña kept the prices down, but now, 35 dollar for ringside is the normal fee for AAA TV tapings…

Rey de Reyes had a 10 to 50 range

    http://boxylucha.com/foro/viewtopic.php?t=26146

Those are oficial prices, but you can never get them at the box office unless you give a tip, so prices go up 30-50% .

In Arena Mexico, they call that “comision por apartado”.

  32. Rob, you challenged me regarding AAA. ALthough we all know lucha is an entertainment show, AAA is more of a TV-televisa show; like a soap opera. You just need to hear “Rudo” Rivera saying stupid things like ‘guacala de pollo’ and all that stuff as well as their wrestlers: Latin Lover, Ciber… TV stars.

Now CMLL is more technical, more traditional, more respectable. Right now, even AAA might have more nationwide presence, CMLL has the best wrestlers like Wagner, Mistico, Corleone, Perros del Mal, etc.

    For me, AAA is fake.

  33. Regarding tickets, Arena Mexico which is run weekly, charges something like 30 bucks for a ringside seat (first 5 rows). Coliseo on Sundays is a little bit more expensive than Tuesdays, but they are around 10 to 15 bucks for the first five rows.

Now, last time Mistico came to Soli I paid 25 bucks for a fifth row seat.

Coliseo Mty sucks, no worth things to look there technically speaking. For a couple of beers after a hard Tuesday, is really OK! Soli only if CMLL comes.

  34. “Now CMLL is more technical, more traditional, more respectable.”

Like when Perrito and Garza let the women in the crowd take their shirts off during a “wrestling match”?

Like when Quemonito is running around hitting people?

Like when Dr. Wagner Jr. is pretending to inject Mistico with steroids?

Like when all the tecnicos are posing together for a few minutes while the rudos just watch and don’t try to attack them?

Like when every match ends with a low blow or the referee gets bumped?

I could go on but the bottom line is – you are biased. You hate AAA. We get it. So you have no right to comment on anything they do b/c you will automatically hate them no matter what. You don’t have an open mind. People like you bother me b/c deep inside you KNOW AAA has some positives but you refuse to see it since you are so brainwashed.

Why are you brainwashed? Simple. You said Marco Corleone is one of the best wrestlers. End of argument right there.

Plus, you complain about AAA’s guys being TV stars. What has been on CMLL TV for the last 2 months? Nothing but Perrito Aguayo/Mr. Aguila on that stupid TV show. How do you ignore that, it takes up half the television show. I’m sure you conveniently missed all of that though. Or how about the time the CMLL guys when on a dance show where Sangre Azteca won?

See what I mean… you have a double standard so your opinion is useless. Either comment on the good/bad of both promotions or only comment on CMLL and leave AAA alone. Don’t try to disguise yourself as a “knowledgable person” who really is just here to spread the AAA hatred, OK?

  35. What I don’t get is people complaining that AAA is made for TV…

I mean, most of the angles are done right and done at the ring, for instance, even guys that don’t know the language, understood the Apache-Billy-Barrios-Calo-Laredo
stuff, or the Secta split into HB and Mesias guys, Vipers reforming, etc. Everything was done in the ring mostly.

But take CMLL, Black Warrior “turned” on Mistico out of nowhere, sure, if you read Box Y Lucha you knew he was turning at some point, but for the 99% of the crowd, it made little sense… Same with Rey Bucanero, sure the skits had him angry with Ultimo and Atlantis and all that, but there was never anything going during their matches, if you had never seen the skits, his turn came out of nowhere…

Stuff in Coliseo is even worse, Ramnstain and Valiente were talking about masks challenges in their FSE interview… shouldn’t they feud in the ring before that? Same thing has happened with Leon-o, Stuka Jr and Maximo, rushed angles which only made sense if you watch the tv shows, no stories told in the ring…

  36. OK Rob, you’re arguments are based and I can take some of them. I said we all know lucha is also for entertainment, and in such that way, both companies have those ‘quemonito’ stuff… People like that.

I’m sorry you cannot stand someone that dislikes AAA and start saying I only want to disrupt the blog with my opinions… I am not brainwashed and dont need to disguise myself because I know about lucha.

The stupid thing around Perro and Televisa also bothers me, taking out lucha and putting those stupid promotionals…

I dont completely hate AAA, just analyze the history of this company. They started bringing the very best of the lucha, but suddenly, wrestlers came back to CMLL because now, the company doesn’t has much to offer to them; at least in Mexico City.

Sorry, but useless or not, I will still support CMLL.

  37. Micosis brings up a good point about Mexico City. AAA has almost no presence in that market. I was thinking earlier tonight-WWE may actually run more big shows in the Mexico City market in 2007 than AAA. This point is even more apparent in mainstream media coverage these days. La Hora de la Papa clearing favors CMLL because they are the hometown promotion these days. And of course, the big homerun for CMLL- Los Cinco Magnificos, which should get 10,000,000 viewers when the ratings come out.

Robert hits the nail on the head when pointing out the booking in CMLL. It sucks. Why didn’t Aguila win LdP? At a time when Aguila is getting mainstream pub, and the world knows Mistico is legit hurt, the heel attacks the injury, gets the win, while Mistico has the built-in excuse for losing. The storyline should’ve been that “Mistico should not be in the ring, how courageous he is……..” and you get my drift.

Marco Corleone may not be a good worker. But he is spectacular with his running the ramp over the top rope flying body press.

AAA has really improved of late. The camera work needs improvement, but the vignettes and storylines make sense. And Saturday’s show ended with a big “MEXICAN POWERS” graphic that had me smiling for hours.

  38. AAA has improved with the return of Super Calo and the awesome Fuerza Area vs Grandpa Apache feud. I also like the Zorro is getting a push since I think he’s the best technico in AAA. Everyone already knows the one thing in AAA I can’t stand so I’m not even going to repeat it.
