05/19: Mexico results, IWRG, lineups, GdR

Perro got a second opinion on his knee injury, from the CMLL doctors, and they believe it’s not as bad as orginally feared, and will only be a 3 month recovery time. They’ve already done the operation, so that’d put him back in August; they could use him on the anniversary show. Perro’s expecting to get out of the hospital, get home and start rehabbing today.

5) Dr. Wagner & Marco Corelone b Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero

No explaination of why the main event became a tag match.

Mr. Aguila is taking over Perro’s spot for the time being, it seems – he’ll take over Perro’s role on the reality show, and he won this cibernetico (as Perro probably would’ve), beating Negro to win it. Mictlan filled in for Mascara Purura. Tarzan Boy hurt his knee during the match and was carried out.

  1. THE OPENER AIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That makes up for all the shitty cards they’ve booked this week.

  2. Arena Mex opener – that’s more like it! :)

We might even get 2 helpings of Brillante this week if he makes the main show today. Unfortunately that would be double duty for Leono too but i can live with that.

Hopefully next weeks main show can squeeze in the shitty segunda (tecnico-wise)giving us Flash/Super Nova/Brillante/Holligan/Ramstein on GdR in a fortnight, but that’s probably wishful thinking.

That said, there’s no excuse for not squeezing in the Coliseo segunda along with 3 Arena mex matches now that CMLL TV has the extra 15 minutes again, and there won’t be any skits campaigning for Perro in this reality show.

  3. No…

… they’ll be 10,000 skits about Perrito’s injury and Mr. Aguila replacing him.:) They still want a PdM to win the show unfortunately so we’re screwed.

  4. WTF? why mr aguila? i don’t understand CMLL, anyway, next week cards looks terrible.

    We Want Santito!

  5. Simple… rather than re-think the cards and try to come up with an interesting match to replace Mistico/Perrito, they just put the undeserving Mr. Aguila in Perrito’s spot. There’s only so much you can do at those 10 second booking meetings!;)

  6. Mr Aguila is going to replace Aguayo at the reality show, so they need to turn him into a star, so he’ll start winning matches right and left… I guess Mistico won’t be returning until the show is over. Losing to Perrillo is one thing, but losing to Aguila would be dumb.

  7. Weird that they don’t appear to be airing the Arena Mex main event. Not that I mind it… just weird.

    Looks like:

    – Coliseo segunda w/ BRILLANTE JR.! (yep, they said Jr.)
    – Arena Mex women
    – Leyenda De Plata A

  8. Forget showing the first fall of the trios match, we need to see Perrito in the hospital.

    Jeez, Leono is pathetic.

  9. AAA also cut out the ring entrances, which to me, is their strong point.

I can only imagine how much people are going to shit on today’s episode of AAA. AAA guys must get plenty of cardio from all the cardio sprints they make to ringside. How many run-ins today? Daniel is going to go off

  10. That match was the definition of disapointing. Brillante Jr.’s dive was the only cool thing but he did nothing else. The rudo trio was AWFUL.

Tigre Metalico looks completely unmotivated. He doesn’t even try to stand out any more.

  11. Yeah, it was poor. I’m not usually all that fussed about Rudo offence but those 3 are just dull, lazy and lacking in any kind of imagination to the extent that they can’t not bring a match down – Particularly with their double and triple teams. You’d struggle to stay awake during one of their beatdowns. And it’s not even like their intensity and viciousness can compensate for lack of innovation/spectacular offence because they are doing nothing but going through the motions.

First thoughts of Brillante is he looks pretty solid with a lot of promise. Leono is bad enough with two nevermind one, and he would have been as well just returning to the dressing room after making a c*nt of himself on that ‘dive’ instead of prolonging the humiliation.
I won’t be too hard on Metalico because the last time i saw him in that surprisingly great match a few weeks back (which is repeated tomorrow), he was pretty impressive. But yeah, he looked like he’d rather be a million miles away in that match today.

I always thought his tope’s were really ugly but i’m starting to like the way he literally just flies out with a no hands unprotected flying headbutt to his opponent.

50 minutes into the show and only one 10 minute match and Momentos to show for it :(

And this fucking womens match was supposed to have went around 18 minutes or so! Did i ever mention that i wished those damn CMll would GET TO FUCK?!

  13. No, you certainly have no mentioned you don’t like the CMLL women every single Saturday for the last million weeks, and it’s also not fives steps past old at this point.

  14. Some things need to be said – and repeated. :D

Just what do the few folk who like watching the women see in them anyway?

I’ve asked the question countless times before but no-one seems to be able to give an answer. There is absolutely no aspect to their work which even comes close to equaling far less bettering that of the lowercarders and the minis. There’s really no getting around that and i don’t think there could be any arguments otherwise

So what is it exactly that i’m missing?

  15. Was the first match in the Gala US Triple AAA show today supposed to be Barrio Boys vs Secta? I thought I missed half of the show when I saw it on.

Lol at the doorag Kenzo was sporting.

    ************************************************************************

I guess we can say AAA was “joined in progress” this week.

  17. Some awesome exchanges earlier on in the Torneo. Stuka looked great when in with Volador & Casas and that monkey-flip into somersault plancha spot was something else.

Even Felino looked pretty motivated for a change. That spinning superplex/neckbreaker/whatever it was was pretty jaw-dropping.

With 15 minutes, you don’t really get a chance to do much but the first half of it was pretty good – until the guys who could actually be bothered were eliminated.

Mr Aguila has his moments now & again, but generally he is nothing nowadays. Using Perro’s double stomp and making a mess of it is a bit lame.

  18. I loved Mr. Aguila messing up the double stomp. You STEP ON YOUR OPPONENT. Not that difficult!:P But I thought he looked the best he has in ages in that match.

Stuka Jr. was the definite star by holding his own against Negro, one-upping Volador Jr., doing the craziest dive of the match and almost eliminating Felino. No doubt he’ll be sent back to primeras and segundas for trying to look good.

Mictlan had the easiest night out of anyone. Did he even get 40 seconds in the ring before screwing up the Spanish Fly and going out?

Poor Tarzan Boy… he takes these sick bumps and survives them all but manages to hurt himself on any simple looking spot he blows.

When Volador Jr. got pinned, all I could think about was cubs saying: “They could finally go ALL THE WAY with him! Wait, no, that’ll never happen, scratch this one.”

Mr. Aguila was advertised for next week’s Torneo so I wonder who replaces him. I guess we can guarantee a tecnico win next week which means Mistico HAS to be in the match b/c Heavy Metal, La Mascara and Valiente have no chance of coming out the winners and opposing Aguila. Speaking of which… a Mr. Aguila singles match in 2007… oh boy… that’s gonna be rough!

My favorite part of the show was they added another new segment to waste time where every week a luchador will now come on and say “Lucha Libre… IT’S REAL!” This of course on the same week Perrito hurts himself on a circus show. Wrestling 5-6 times a week for the past couple of years didn’t hurt him but being on a circus show did him in. I guess people should be more afraid of reality shows than getting in a wrestling ring.

When the current batch of “new” fans find something new to be interested in, Lucha Libre is gonna take a HUGE fall. It’ll be one of the worst periods ever in Mexico, I guarantee it.

  19. Oh yeah, and I forgot the one thing I wanted to mention – they finally switched things up and had two guys on the same team survive the Torneo leading to a singles match (or something like it)! Nice little twist since I’m sure everyone was expecting Mephisto to eliminate either Negro or Aguila.

For official recorded results, the teams were:

Negro, Aguila, Maximo, Mictlan, Felino vs. Tarzan, Volador Jr., Mephisto, Stuka Jr., Koslov.

  20. Henrik: It’s totally irrelevant if you’re right or wrong*, the incessant complaints is so annoying to me at this moment. It’s like you’re complaining to me about the sun coming up each morning – I totally have no control about it, go talk God and leave me alone.

    * – I think you’re wrong, and much like you and Rob, I don’t really care about other people’s opinions on this subject

Rob: Black Warrior takes Mr. Aguila’s place next week. Not that he works any better. As always with CMLL, everything is in the Mistico basket.

  21. Yeah Bert, that was the rain delayed taping from Xalapa. Poor Joe Lider slipped on the wet top rope and seemed hurt.

Changing the topic to what else- Arena Coliseo Monterrey, I noticed today that when I’m on the JUMPTV.com website watching Multimedios, there is a small chat room on the side of the screen. People IM each other while watching programming. I can’t wait to see who is watching the Lucha Monterrey tonight.

  22. But the AAA show was 1:30 because of a soccer game which started at 4…

The IM should be done through cell phones… they’ll probably run the same stuff from other shows if no one sends them nothing…

  23. The IM’s were from people signed-in to JUMPTV. One guy was in Atlanta, but lives in MTY. He subscribed to JUMP just to watch Futbol al Dia. JUMPTV is live internet feed of TV stations around the world.

Chui, any good shows coming to la Laguna?

  24. I realized what you meant 3 seconds after hitting the send button…

There’s a AAA show next week at Plaza de Toros Torreon, I have not seen the card yet, but it seems that at least the top 3 are AAA guys, and there’s a “CMLL” show the 31st which has Mistico on the main event, but the rest of the show is usual local guys… I think I might be better at Olimpico Laguna, although I don’t know what they’ll have there.

  25. I realise it’s your site, but this place has pretty much taken over luchaworld for lucha TV talk and i’m generally not directing anything to any one person in particular.

Sometimes i go ott in a tongue-in-cheek way for added emphasis, sometimes i’m 100% legit with annoyance when the women do make Tv ahead of a match i’m hoping for and would much rather see. Either way, a couple of throwaway lines on a comments page can’t bug folk that much surely? Mountains out of molehills, no? :o

And In this case tonight, i’m only interested in finding out why folk think my dislike of the CMLL women is unjust – because it’s pretty puzzling when you’re watching them and outwith Dark Angels bobsleigh suit, you can’t see any redeeming factors whatsoever. I wouldn’t say that’s out of order.

I have no problem with people liking them (although i wouldn’t mind getting a bit of feedback on what the appeal is). And to be honest, i don’t know how anyone could feel like that’s what i’m implying in the first place. When i’m in rant mode it’s clearly not directed at anyone on here, the only target of my letting off steam is Televisa/CMLL!

If it annoys you that much, i’ll try to bite my lip when they’re on or are listed in the Tv lineups. ….. but just don’t ask me to stop hating on La Mascara, that would be taking it too far ;)

  26. There’s no point in saying that the ladies matches are better than (most of)the undercarders, but the fact is, the women draw much more than the undercarders. When CMLL puts a show over here, at times they would put a Dark Angel vs Sujei mano a mano, or a tag team and people will talk about it in anticipation, if you put an Artillero vs Molotov match, the crowd would whistle them out of the building in 5 seconds.

So Televisa/CMLL has to give them airtime because they sell more dates around the country than the undercarders. So they’re here to stay, I would like for CMLL to air both Sundays and Fridays shows in full, but since they have to left some matches out, the choice is understable. Today’s ladies match was not bad, imo.

  27. One could argue Molotov vs Artillero would mean something if the promotion gave them TV time, mixed them with the bigger stars and emphasized what good matches they could have.

There was a time when CMLL had a women’s division compriased of Lady Apache, Marcela, Amapola, La Diabolica, Flor Metalica, Perla Rey, La Andromeda, and a few others. SUPPOSEDLY they were having decent matches but they never got any TV time so we wouldn’t know that for sure. But the promotion didn’t give them any sort of recognition or send them anywhere to draw crowds.

Suddenly in 2005, Dark Angel, Princesa Sujei and India Sioux show up on the scene. The women’s division immediatly becomes a big deal and needs to be put on television plus the ladies get to go on all the shows in tercera or even semi-mains.

    Do you notice anything?

My point is the women are only getting attention now because of their looks. You can argue with me till you are blue in the face but it won’t change anything. These women are being given TV time and good bookings solely based on their appearence. The fact that some of them can wrestle is meaningless. Lady Apache, Diabolica, Amapola, Marcela and Andromeda were good wrestlers. They just didn’t look like Dark Angel and India Sioux do.

If every woman in the division looked like Princesa Blanca or La Medusa, the division wouldn’t have been brought back or it would be suffering the same fate as it did from 1997 – 2003.

So I understand that the women need to be given TV time to draw the big houses, I just don’t ever want to hear anyone tell me that it’s because they are good wrestlers. It’s not. It’s because they have boobs and pretty faces. Thus they appeal to the horny teenage men crowd which is the main crowd some of these shows draw these days.

Diana La Cazadora is all the proof I need. Nobody (mark, smart mark, promoter, fellow wrestler, etc.) would deny that she is AWFUL in the ring. Yet today she got the biggest pop out of all the women and was the most over in the match from what I heard. Why? Simple – she has magnificent breasts and isn’t afraid to shake them.

As for the match, I can’t really comment since I only saw entrances and the odd exchange or two since Buffalo/Ottawa were in overtime. I do know it seemed to last for ages. Was it a good match? Perhaps. Does it matter? No. Crowd got their eye candy.

Brillante/Flash/Super Nova vs Apocalipsis/Hooligan/Ramstein would be the tercera at Arena Mexico next week if they all had 34D boobs and you’d get a good match to boot.

  28. The women are definitely a draw. I believe that every Lucha show should have women and minis on the card. Isn’t Diana doing a local magazine show for Ch.2 in Monterrey?

A lot of people ask “Why hasn’WWE snatched up Sarah Stock”?

  29. She has the cute girl look, not the busty used-up whore look all the WWE girls have.

  30. She has the cute girl look, not the busty used-up whore look all the WWE girls have
    ****************************************************

Sara has at times cut up and had something of a diva look. But you’re right. She’s probably not what Vince wants.

Changing the topic, RFC from lomejordelalucha is doing the commentary(on Sunday) on Multimedios. At least I think that’s him. And it’s so horrible these days. They don’t do commentary on Tuesday’s, and are too lazy to do it in the studio. Could Coliseo/MTY be the worst produced Lucha in Mexico?

  31. quick note: it does indeed look as though the last night Galavision lucha airing will be the same 90 minute show aired twice.

This means Galavsion will set a new record, airing the same lucha show 4 times in one weekend (5 if Vuelta is the full 3 hours where you live.)

Was there a vignette to explain why Billy is back with the Barrio Boys?

  32. I did not see a vignette to explain the Billy Boy angle here in New York. I’m watching again anyway. But the commentary did a pretty good job noting his mood.

  33. I meant to say the commentary did a decent job of getting the angle over.

  34. 38 comments has got to be a record…

To switch topics… what is CMLL doing with the mid-card wrestlers? Some weird matchups involving the Maximo, Virus, Texano, Mictlan, etc. group. Logical booking says they are building to some sort of Torneo Cibernetico with the loser unmasking/getting his head shaved? Perhaps for the big July show? But this is CMLL so I don’t think they have any clue themselves.

That’s the good thing about the FSE CMLL shows. You get to see the CMLL mid-carders without being rushed for time. Tony Rivera has to be one of the most under-utilized talents ever.

  36. Isn’t Dark Angel banned from the states anyways?

oh yeah, F Joe Lider. He sucks.

  37. hey Cubsfan, is the Perros reality show available/(will be) on DVD? (and if so, from where does/how can one purchase a copy?)

    Many thanx.

  38. Well, Aero Star just did my spot of the year and it wasn’t even the SSP to nowhere! I’m sure next week I’ll be saying something Valiente did in the Torneo next week will be the new spot of the year.:)

What the hell happened to Super Fly? He came out, was never seen in the actual match and then was shown at ringside holding his knee after the match while getting stomped on? Maybe he went in with an injury and couldn’t wrestle? Why not just use Nemesis instead since he was perfectly okay?

Disapointing rematch though I’m guessing it had to do with the injury.

  39. Hey ????? if you scroll down one or two days, Cubs linked Univision’s Upfront press release where they announced that they’ll carry Los 5 Magnificos in the fall season.

Televisa does release DVD’s, but I don’t know if this will be one of them.

  40. Lol, I was marking out when Secta del Mesias won the atomicos title. Then my heart was completely crushed when the decision was overturned by
    Roldan. :(

Well, at least the Anaheim Ducks tied the game at the last minute in the Wings vs Ducks conference finals. Better not blow it in overtime or else I’ll be in a really foul mood.

  41. Just checked out Cubs’ Univision press release link. Never heard of any of these networks up here in Canada, but at least now I can google them and contact the stations myself for the DVDs.

Thanx for the info luchalibreenvivo! And thanx, Cubs, for posting that link.

    Much appreciation 2 u both!

    :) , hugs
