Sin Cara

The latest story is that Hunico will indeed be wrestling as Hunico tonight at the SmackDown tapings. At some point in the future, Mistico will return and take over the character, which will lead to Hunico and Mistico feuding. Something like Sin Cara vs Evil Sin Cara.

The idea is Hunico will be familiar with lucha libre style and be able to make him look good. The obvious problem is Hunico and Mistico have at least given everyone else the impression that they dislike each other over the Mistico/Mystico name issue. Maybe the personal issues will push them into having better matches, but that’s not the way I would gamble. Roping this back into lucha libre: if WWE is bringing Hunico up to their main roster to be Mistico’s lucha libre opponent, that would seem to eliminate the need for Averno. I’m guessing it’s more likely than not he’s not going after all at this point.

This story keeps on changing every day and I’m kind of annoyed with/tired of it by now. If I’m remembering right, the last time WWE did an Character vs Evil Version feud (Kane vs Kane), it lasted exactly one match before they wrote the whole thing out. Plans will keep on changing.

Other News

Psycho Clown says he wished the Clowns could have beat three Perros at once to shave them all and, since there’s still three left to shave, they should totally do that match. (NOooooooooooooo…) Psycho does figure the Perros will probably want to rethink fighting them any more after this loss.

Joe Lider wants to face LuFisto. If you were LuFisto, would you rather face Joe Lider or Sexi Star in Lucha POP? She’s not coming until December, so, yea, four months of this. (Probably not, probably stop linking to it.)

Black Terry Jr. has video of the semifinal from Sunday’s IWRG show: Argos, Black Terry, Multifacético vs Dr. Cerebro, Mortiz, Semental: part 1, part 2, part 3.

Rob has a bunch of random thoughts, plus highlights of AAA 1994 Japan tour and Quemonito vs Zacarias.

LuchaWorld links to this week’s AAA TV, IWRG TV, the first Lucha POP internet show, and Sombra vs Strong Man!

Prometo returns to complain Antonio Pena started the minis division in 1989, and CMLL is writing him out by saying it started in 1992. I guess CMLL could make the case that it’s celebrating the minis title making the division, which didn’t exist until 1992. (Though that was March; they’re obviously celebrating the restart post-Pena, which is Prometo’s issue.)

Lineups

Mr. Trueno vs Palacio Negro for the Occidente Middleweight Championship has been added to Sunday’s Guadalajara show. That should be fun, don’t have a strong feeling on who will win. Wonder if we’ll find out, given how slow results have been from here. (Though I probably have a bunch I need to go thru and post, now that I think about it.) The segunda (Virgo/Relapago vs Divino/Thunder Boy) match has been pulled.

CMLL (SUN) 08/14/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Freesbe & Robin vs Cholo & Zayco
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Starman, Super Halcon Jr. vs Inquisidor, Rayo Tapatío I, Rayo Tapatío II
3) Black Warrior, Fuego, Toscano vs Euforia, Vangelis, Virus
4) La Máscara, Máximo, Super Porky vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
5) Volador Jr. vs Héctor Garza

GO VOLADOR. If you are rooting for Hector Garza, you are wrong. Even you, Daniel – watch that 52MX match and tell me Garza’s not the bad guy here.

CMLL (MON) 08/15/2011 Arena Puebla
1) Milenium & Silver vs Akron & Sauron
2) Höruz, Stigma, Trueno vs Apocalipsis, Arissma, Bronco
3) Astral, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior
4) Máximo, Super Porky, Toscano vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero
5) Máscara Dorada vs Mephisto [CMLL WELTER]

Presumably, Mephisto pinned Dorada last night. And Toscano showed up? That seems less likely.

Lucha POP (SAT) 08/27/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos
2) Lily Fighter & Tribal vs Shitara & Terremoto Negro and Ashley & Mamba
3) Gran Apache vs Angelico
4) Chik Tormenta vs Vanely, Yuki Star [#1 Contenders, POP FEMENIL]
5) Zumbi vs Mr. Porto
6) La Vaquerita vs Keira, Lolita [POP FEMENIL]
7) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Black Terry & Negro Navarro
8) Extreme Tiger & Fenix (AAA) vs Dark Dragon & Samurai del Sol

Ultimo Gladiador is making Zumbi run a gauntlet to get back to him.

  1. this whole Sin Cara thing is such a mess. Would it have been that hard to debut Hunico as Hunico and then go from there in two weeks when Sin Cara can return? Or am I just thinking too sensibly here?

  2. This whole Sin Cara thing doesn’t sound too bad to me honestly. At least it gives something for Cara to do besides random matches, and Hunico will be able to work with him well.

  3. You know when I first read Hunico as Sin Cara I was hoping they would actually DO something with it and not just try to jedi mind-trick us into thinking it was the same guy.

I actually like the idea a lot, if it gets Huncio on my TV as well, so much better.

  4. Well, I would say there is little chance that Hunico will go out of his way to make Sin Cara look good given their past, but lets not forget Hunico almost quit wrestling to become a priest, so if anyone might look past not liking someone and working well with him, then its probably him. So, there is a glimmer of hope that this could work.

Besides I think this could benefit Hunico. He’s not a great worker. He’s not flashy, but he’s good. There have been guys in WWE who stuck around a long time on just being good and used as someone to get others over.

  5. Assuming the info is even correct (debateable…) isn’t it a bit soon to be introducing an evil version of Sin Cara? How many charachters get evil versions of themselves only a few months after their debut? I don’t think the Sin Cara charachter is even established enough for this deal to work and you’d need a good heel promo to carry the feud and from what I’ve heard in the past Hunico is hardly a talker.

  6. The Konan Big/Hector Garza match has turned into a 4 way with Rey Hiechero and Neurosis for Next Tuesday.

If Hunico is going to be fake Sin cara, I wonder how they will hide his tats? Glad he’s getting a chance though. He’s been tearing it up in FCW.

  7. @Tim: Sin Cara wears those armguard/armband deals that cover up a majority of his lower arms, so they’ll probably just cover the tats with that

  8. good points made here regarding the latest sin cara update. not to knock dave meltzer, but i think it’s clear he’s having a hard time finding out what is going on with this situation.

  9. I kinda recall someone mentioning that the WWE was having some kind of issue trademarking “Sin Cara”, because it was a “character” and not a “person” or something, right? Wasn’t that one of the theories thrown out there about why WWE published his real name when they announced the suspension?

If so, maybe someone else wrestling a few matches as Sin Cara is just enough to prove that “Sin Cara” is a character, and not necessarily the former Mistico. And thus the rushed doppelganger angle.

  10. thecubsfan, you’ve challenged me to watch the 52MX match, and I’ve tried but I can’t download the file. Can you post that stuff on youtube or something???

  11. @thecubsfan: Thanks for the link I appreciate it.

After watching the match I will agree that Hector did not come off as a guy who wants to change his ways and become a good guy, he simply came off as a rudo who wanted to screw over his partners.

But I’ll still cheer for Hector when he faces Volador Jr. The reason is because although Volador Jr. was the victim here, Volador Jr. is still an asshole so he got what he deserved. Volador Jr. isn’t exactly making an effort to be a good guy either.

  12. So Hunico did portray Sin Cara last night at the Smackdown tapings. Reports say the crowd didn’t seem to notice it was a different guy.
