CMLL (FRI) 07/22/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Bronco & Inquisidor b Enrique Vera Jr. & Höruz
2) Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito b Bam Bam, Fantasy, Mascarita Dorada
Olimpico & Pierrothtio submitted Fantasy & Bam Bam for the win.
3) Estrellita, Goya Kong, Marcela b Amapola, Princesa Sugheit, Tiffany
tecnicas took last two, Estrellita beating Amapola in the last with an inverted figure four. This sets up a title match next week.
4) Palacio Negro b Cancerbero [lightning]
win in 8:34 for Palacio Negro via moonsault legdrop
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Rush b Averno, Rey Bucanero, Terrible
Rudos were DQed in the first for throwing La Mascara over the top rope, Mascara pinned Averno with the Devil’s Wings in the second. Averno had previous tried for the campana, which beat Mascara last week. They agreed to a NWA Middleweight title match next week.
6) Atlantis, Héctor Garza, Último Guerrero b Mr. Niebla, Naito, Negro Casas
Naito ate an Atlantis moonsault and Negro Casas ran into an Atlantida for the loss.

Amapola losing the title to Estrellita would be horrible. Even Tim has to agree with me on this.

Lucha Libre Expo

The Lucha Libre Expo kicks off today. IWRG and CMLL have their shows tonight. CMLL is presenting their 2010 awards as well. Can’t miss show of the day has to be the 15:30 “Show de Perico”.

Their website has an prosaic interview with Estrellita

Universal writes about five matches worth seeing.

Other News

the Women of Wrestling podcast has an interview with Hailey Hatred. It’s a good interview, and around the 42 minute mark, she talks about the situation where she was banned by the Monterrey lucha libre commission for being too many characters at once. Monterrey  is the most unlikely place to be punished for that.

Shocker is filming some sort of reality show. He’s mentioned going home to Guadalajara for it on his twitter account, and they’ll be taping at the expo tonight.

Rob has highlights from this year’s TripleMania.

CMLL (FRI) 07/29/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Starman vs Bobby Zavala & Disturbio
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
3) Amapola vs Estrellita [CMLL WOMEN]
4) Strong Man vs Shocker, Blue Panther, Máximo, Rush, Metro, Hijo del Fantasma, Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Terrible, Psicosis, Texano, Último Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Mr. Niebla, Héctor Garza [LdA]
5) Averno vs La Máscara [NWA MIDDLE]

The Leyenda de Azul tournament, of all the things in the world. This is the seventh version. The last tournament was run in 2008, which Terrible won. Blue Demon feels he owns this tournament name and will complain about it; between it and the main event having an NWA title, it’s a good week for Demon complaining.

Averno vs La Mascara has no effect on the Universal tournament, since they’d both still have a championship regardless of the finish.

  1. I find it hilarious how the CMLL bookers main pet peeve seems to be actual booking. It’s like it comes time to plan the shows and they get all annoyed they have to do their actual job and just schedule another tournament.

Of course we are now about 8 weeks from the Anniversary Show (give or take a week) so it’s about time they started teasing some interesting feuds that inevitably get dropped 2 weeks before the actual show in place of a rushed cage match.

    XEJ is down.

  2. For reasons I can’t even begin to understand the local CMLL GDL show is airing the DRAGON LEE/SUPER HALCON JR. tag match from Tuesday’s show instead of Bam Bam vs Demus.

  3. @Rob:

    GDL must hate good lucha.

Galavision show starting with the trios title match. Are they really going to stretch this out for 90 minutes?

  4. @Tim: They might! Mexican forums said it was a fantastic match so it’d be good if it aired unedited.

  5. To be fair this is the best they’ve looked in ages. They need simple tag matches like this (that don’t make TV) for another 6 months.

C3 is a five match show, starting with the segunda.

  6. Ah here comes Bam Bam vs Demus.

And AWESOME finisher by Puma King/Tiger not so Kid!

  7. Looks like GDL is going to try to get 4 matches in a 1 hour time slot. That is the extreme opposite of Galavision stretching 1 match over 90 minutes.

  8. WHAT A MATCH! That C3 opener was KICK FUCKING ASS! Everyone in that match should be the focus of CMLL’s youth movement.

  9. my TiVo has not been working today, no recordings. Hoping to get it going in the next hour, which would be good enough for catching the 52MX and Gala reruns later (plus ACM), but I won’t have LATV or the Saturday WWC show. Apologies.

  10. I can’t believe Galavision was able to stretch one match into 90 minutes. That’s ridiculous and makes it very hard to enjoy the match.

  11. Scratch my comment before – can’t get the TiVo working, going to have to send it out for repairs. No video until it gets back. Sorry.

  12. @Rob:

Who doesn’t have a DVR? I have no problem with one match for 90 minutes, just FF through the commercials and you get to see it unedited.

  13. I don’t have a DVR. Too poor for one I guess.

ACM is a repeat with the Ninjas match from a couple weeks ago. Kinda surprised they aren’t showing the Konan Big match.

  14. @Tim: It was a great match as long as you had the remote in hand to zip through all the promos and go right to the action.
