GdR #31

Quick! Hopefully I didn’t leave a typo up.

Reyes del Air good but not in the same sentence as the last one. Cage match fine for that sort of thing.

I’ll do a “Who’s who in the Reyes del Air” a bit later for those who don’t know the undercarders by heart; they never do put up a graphic.

AAA’s airing the scheulded episode as a I speak.

  1. Hey now! 10 minutes cage match which probably sucked leaving 18 minutes for the actual Torneo works for me! Rare to see an 18 minute match these days so I’ll have so savor the moment.:D Just link to the wiki to I.D. who is who since I think we have everyone up.:)

  2. How’s this for shitty? CMLL has extra TV time today so how do they use this time to their advantage?

They air a women’s trios match from 3 weeks ago.

  3. HOLY SHIT I TAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARENA MEXICO SEGUNDA IN FULL RIGHT NOW!:D

  4. Not as highspotty as you’d imagine but a really solid match. More importantly… SOMETHING FRESH! Didn’t seem to have any edits which is surprising. Mascara Purpura did an AWESOME innovative headscissors off the apron to the floor. Hard to even describe really.

This match and the Reyes Del Aire in one day? Whoa!:o

  5. Oh man, the Volador Jr./Averno bump was sickening. It was the usual spot where Averno is up top, then Volador’s partner tosses him into the air onto the top as well and they almost lost their balance at first but hung onto each other. Then right when Averno was ready to flip with Volador he lost his footing and caught himself on the second turnbuckle but Volador was falling forward and the momentum took them both to the floor with Averno landed really hard on his side and Volador being a tecnico till the end trying to protect Averno’s head which led to him getting his leg stuck under Averno as they nailed the floor. Doctors ran over right away and Volador got stretchered but tried to get off saying he could continue. I guess he was talked out of it though, especially when a seemingly KO’ed Averno was also stretchered off. No point doing 3-on-2.

Real shame, mostly b/c you don’t want to see any injuries but also b/c that match was a *WAR*. Awesome performance by everyone. Only Averno escaped with no mask ripping due to the injury. Felino, Mascara and Misterioso all had their faces exposed at one point or another and the crowd was red hot. This was exactly what you want to see as a CMLL fan, the talented midcard guys involved in a match with huge heat. So much hatred portrayed… it was fantastic. I am WAY pumped for the revancha next week and am glad they didn’t go straight to the Mascara/Mephisto title unification match.

Would it be a stretch to guess a possible main event soon in a Cage with these guys and maybe Felino dropping his mask? Or a straight up Felino vs Misterioso II mask match? Nobody expected Felino to beat Ciclon Ramirez so that was part of what made him into a big star so I can see him passing on the fame to Misterioso II.

  6. I promise this will be the last post where I talk to myself…

The Arena Mex main event didn’t air. So they aired the women from 3 weeks ago, segunda, tercera, momentos and semi-main = 4 match show.

They’ve been doing this a lot recently with the Wagner/Parka feud. Not sure why though. Could be many reasons:
    1) Trying to get more people to show up live since attendance has dropped.
    2) Some legal issue with Parka on TV?
    3) Matches going too long? Ernesto had yesterday’s main event at 21 minutes.

I’m not complaining since it was a strong show aside from the lackluster semi-main. Hopefully they do this again next week and air the segunda, tercera, especial and semi-main or main (either one really doesn’t matter to me).

  7. Man, you people that get to watch CMLL make me so envious!

I understand now that thecubsfan has more tolerance for AAA than before, but Casandro getting his nails done in a beauty salon, Martha Villalobos and La Diabolica catfighting outside the ring while The Culture Club is blasting away, and Shocker escaping a kidnapping by knocking a chic out and carjacking a cabbie won’t help to win him over.

  8. The AAA skipped a week I think. I don’t remember seeing the Zorro-Electro title match or the RdR Intl). Maybe they’re trying to catch up in an effort to get up to date shows on tv. I taped it because I made the long drive to Philly for the ecw show, so far not so bad, I def like CMLL better but I’m giving AAA a chance.

  9. I think you’re right about AAA. I only was around to check the opener – and they have the same opener on both shows. Everything else matches up to a week later. Sorry about that.

  10. No need to apologize. I love the site, it really helps me keep up with the world of lucha. Keep up the good work!!

  11. I didn’t understand the rules to La Traicion match. Who won? Zorro lost and the match ended. Was there a final to this? Confusing as hell.

  12. CMLL did a famous skit back in 2000 where Shocker got his hair done in a salon while ‘Karma Chameleon’ played in the background and it’s still a favorite of many people who remember it.:) I love me some campy lucha skits.

  13. That AAA women’s match was horrible. Martha can’t do anything but sit on women and the japanesse girls were breaking kayfabe and laughing all the way through.

I liked the Intocable/Alan Stone Bull Terrier match. That’s a great fued.

  14. I’m telling you – Martha was shooting all through that match. The Japanese women were legit afraid of what she was going to do to them. She’s like Porky – a fatass who can be legit beaten if you keep moving and just throw quick strikes but if they grab you – you’re DEAD.

  15. Sorry Rob, but I’m with Victor and Tim on this one. That was one of the overall worst AAA shows I’ve ever seen and I was confused about the rules, too. Definitely not the type of show you want new lucha fans to get initiated with and I’m always spreading the word to wrestling fans when I meet them at TNA and independent shows here.
