Averno unmasked, TripleMania

CMLL (FRI) 06/17/2011 Arena Mexico [Cesar, CMLL, CMLL Gaceta (6), Estrellas del Ring, Record (1-5), Record (6), SuperLuchas]
***Juicio Final, 2011***
1) Metro & Stuka Jr.Shigeo Okumura & Yoshihashi
tecnicos take fall 1/3.
2) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano b Brazo de Plata, Hijo del Fantasma, Valiente
TRT takes fall 1/3, with a superbomb on Super Porky to take the match.
3) Diamante, Hijo del Signo, Negro Casas b Blue Panther, Fuego, Pólvora [Forjando un Idolo]
Team Negro Casas took the last two falls. They advance to next week’s final, a bit of redemption after neither Diamante nor Signo made the semifinals in the individual version of this tournament. Fuego & Polvora continue to get approval for their team work.
4) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. DQ Ángel de Oro, Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero [Forjando un Idolo]
Guerrero Maya worked against Ultimo Guerrero in the opening mat work and impressed. Straight falls for the Atlantis crew. Big tease of UG vs Atlantis in the second, Atlantis got UG in the Atlantida, and Rey Escorpion fouled him for the DQ. Atlantis & UG were fine after the match, but Oro & Ultimo Guerrero were angry at Rey Escorpion again. Escorpion kissed UG’s boots to apologize. Team Shocker/Atlantis goes onto next week’s final.
5) La Sombra, Rush, Strong Man b Mephisto, Mr. Niebla, Shinsuke Nakamura
Tecnicos took 2/3. Mephisto was wearing an Averno/Mephisto fused mask. Tirantes refereed this match, but not the main event.
6) La Máscara b Averno [mask]
Babe Richard was the referee. Big entrances for both men. Mascara had Brazo de Oro in his corner, Averno had both Ephesto and Mephisto with him to the ring, though Ephesto went to the back during the match. Other wrestlers were watching the match, Shocker most visibly. Mascara started the match with the Brazo de Oro/Mascara split mask he’d worn in some of the vignettes, but also started the match with a tope towards Averno. Averno was ready, and hit Mascara with a metal object, causing Mascara to bleed. Quick first fall for Averno via Devil’s Wings, and Mascara snuck out the second fall with a small package. Long third fall, both guys surviving each other’s and their own usual finishers, including Mascara kicking after a super Devil’s Wings. Mascara finally got Averno with two Devil’s Wings and then the campana for the win. Crowd was way behind Averno to start, but at least some of them came around to Mascara by the second fall – mostly a female supporters. Ephesto & Mephesto unmasked Averno, who is Renato Ruiz Cortez, 34 years old, 16 years a wrestler. Averno gave credit to Mascara for being the better man on this day and left without giving interviews to the press. He’s got a mohawk, partially dyed white. Mascara celebrates with Brazo de Oro, Maximo and Super Brazo.

Referee Rafa el Maya was shown at the show, now out of the hospital. CMLL was back to having two referees in the ring for matches, which came into play with the one DQ (one ref was looking at the people outside the ring, Tigre Hispano spotted the foul.) Attendance guesses range from 80% to ‘all the tickets were sold!’

AAA/TripleMania

The two matches that seem to have the most interest are Mesias vs LA Park, which should close the show, and Zorro vs Jeff Jarrett. Every indication has been the AAA/TNA storyline is just beginning, and I’d expect many of tonight’s results to reflect that. Mesias and Park is probably going to be about topping their match from Guerra de Titanes as much as even the finish. I think the ladder match has a chance to steal some attention, because it’ll surely be as violent as anything on this show.

There are few tickets left for the show. Sounds like someone people will be able to watch the show in Panama. At a spot show Friday night in Puebla, Electroshock promised a surprise for the Maniacos at tonight’s show.

AAA has launched their redesigned website in time with tonight’s show. It seems more finished than most redesigned lucha libre websites, though there’s still data holes. Of note, the first post-TripleMania taping is listed as 06/30 in Tizayuca, which I believe is differently than what was mentioned on TV. The judges for the Corona wrestler search appear to have changed as well, now to Konnan, Fabi Apache and el Apache.

CMLL in NJPW
06/18: Mascara Dorada b Ryusuku Taguchi [CMLL WELTER] (8:26)

New champion! Dorada really had to win; it was his third title match in NJPW in six months, and he’d lost the last two. If I had remembered to preview this match, I would’ve been a bit unsure on Taguchi losing, because of the Universal title tournament and it seemed like he might be the next title contender to Devitt’s title. The last part of it’s no longer an issue – it ain’t Devitt’s title no more – but the first part is still a bit confusing.

Current CMLL Champions

  1. Ultimo Guerrero (CMLL Heavy, CMLL Tag)
  2. Rush (CMLL LH, MEX Trios)
  3. Jushin Liger (CMLL Middle)
  4. Mascara Dorada (CMLL Welter, CMLL TRIOS)
  5. Virus (CMLL SL)
  6. Dragon Rorjo Jr. (CMLL TAG)
  7. Rey Bucanero or Hijo del Fantasma (NWA LH)
  8. Averno (NWA Middleweight) – no hint of a title match here, by the way
  9. Sombra (NWA Welterweight, CMLL TRIOS)
  10. La Mascara (MEX LH, CMLL TRIOS)
  11. Valiente (MEX Welter)
  12. Diamante (MEX Trios)
  13. Angel de Oro (MEX Trios)

That leaves us 3 short of enough to run a Universal tournament. Which is supposed to be happening any week now.

Mascara Dorada, who did challenge throw out a challenge to Prince Devitt in his post match interview (only for Kota Ibushi to beat Devitt first), has three more shows to go before coming home, a trios tournament that starts Tuesday.

More Stuff

Ras de Lona didn’t have any news. Ultimo Guerrero was just as unhappy about Atlantis going against him here. Someone dug out Rencor Latino clips (a tag match with Tigre Blanco, which I can’t find in the db) to show, as well as his first match as Averno, as he and his father talked about the mask match. An emotional Brazo de Oro gave Mascara his gold arm sleeve and a Brazo de Oro/Mascara mask to wear. Friday night highlights were only of the Forjando matches.

Not exactly sure when I’ll get the chat going, but it’ll be on by 8:30 pm CT. This may also be a long night.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update about the protest, his news report about the showthis week’s Ras de Lona, and the latest Slammin’ Stan.

Rob has highlights of 04/08/11 CMLL and early June ’95 AAA

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 06/21/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Camaleón & Höruz vs Bronco & Ramstein
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Hooligan, Nitro, Skándalo
3) Blue Panther, Fuego, Sangre Azteca vs Dr. X, Ephesto, Felino
4) Hijo del Fantasma vs Rey Bucanero [NWA LH]
5) Ángel de Oro, La Sombra, Strong Man vs Mr. Niebla, Rey Escorpion, Shinsuke Nakamura

Why is the title match not the main event?

Fuego vs Dr. X continues.

Interestingly, over on Ras de Lona, the main event was Strong Man, Sombra, Angel de Oro vs Mr. Niebla, Naito, Rey Escorpion. Did someone get the Japanese guys mixed up? The NJPW results sounds like Naito might have been written out for the time, and there was the one mention a few weeks ago of Naito coming back here soon, but that was never mentioned again.

CMLL (FRI) 06/24/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Super Halcon Jr. vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Marcela vs Amapola, Estrellita, Princesa Sugheit
3) Metro, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) Valiente vs Pólvora [lightning]
5) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Diamante, Hijo del Signo, Negro Casas [Forjando un Idolo]
6) Averno, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero vs La Máscara, Máximo, Super Porky

That should be the final for Forjando un Idolo, unless they can figured out another format.

  1. Dorada vs. Devitt is interesting… if they are really high on Dorada, a win over Devitt (now that he isn’t holding a strap) would be huge, and could do big business as a rematch down the line when Devitt gets the Jr. strap back. However, NJPW tends to keep Devitt very very strong, so a win over Dorada as a rebound win to keep him strong would make sense too…

  2. So I guess there will be no Triplemania Stream tonight? The few places I know have no info.

  3. Why doesn’t Hector Garza wrestle on Friday nights anymore?? Do those fuckers actually think he’s not good enough for Televisa?

  4. On my way to Triplemanía. I’m going to watch Velvet’s ass. I hope the shows breaks expectations.

  5. Looking at the current title holders in CMLL for a minute… Lets say we ignore the Averno situation, for a minute. Dorada, Sombra, and Mascara all have singles titles and the CMLL Trios titles. Lets say Fantasma wins the CMLL LH. That would leave Buccanero, Texano, and Terrible out of this tournament… unless they were to win the trios titles in the interim, which would give you 16…

Also, do we need sixteen, or seventeen guys for the tournament? Didn’t Guerrero get a pass to the finals last year, after winning it in ’09? That would mean Rush has to lose one of those titles as well, if Liger is to get a pass to the finals…

  6. AAA TV STARTS WITH THE UNAIRED NEZA OPENER!!!!!!

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

  7. They hyped the Naucalpan show including the opening match and never mentioned the Perrito match so likely that gets cut in favor of what is on now.

Moral of the story: Drugs are good.

  8. How come 95% of those TNA clips involve jumping off high places whether it be stages, cages, ladders, etc. Does TNA ever do actual wrestling matches?

  9. Corrected upcoming AAA TV…

    June 30 – Tizayuca
    July 9 – Veracruz
    July 16 – Orizaba

  10. @Rob: Are they airing Neza + the entire Naucalpan – Perro’s match, or leaving some for next week?

  11. Based on those dates, there’s at least one week of TripleMania airing whenever Naucalpan gets done. If Naucalpan is now a single week, that means definitely two weeks. Maybe two weeks either way.

  12. Really fun match! Fenix is absolutely incredible…

    … but.

Someone in the editing room fucked up the finish badly. Atomic Boy got a nearfall and then instead of inserting a generic crowdshot they inserted a clip of the final pinfall w/ Dark Dragon winning. Then it suddenly cut back to where we left off and Dark Dragon hitting his move on Atomic Boy for the pinfall which we had already seen except this time from a different angle. Very strange.

@thecubsfan: From what I saw they hyped the relevos AAA, Sugi/Laredo/Aero Star and Clowns. That would leave 3 matches (or 4 w/ Perrito) for next week and the Tizayuca taping would air on a 2 day turn around. But then they’d have nothing to air on July 9/10 weekend unless that is when Triplemania airs.

  13. I just hope the pre-show match finds a way onto TV/youtube.

Does anyone care about the Guapito angle? Yes? No? Well if you do it appears to be that he is Konnan’s official talent scout according to the announcers.

  14. Didn’t take long – LATV is repeating episodes already, back to the 05/10 show.

  15. @thecubsfan: So I saved the day recording the stream!

This is exactly why I told Fredo over on twitter it’s time to find a new person to record stuff in Mexico.

    @CM93: Could be!

  16. Great match from Naucalpan! Aero Star is unreal. Everyone delivered there with only Sugi being a bit off at times.

  17. So who’s running in GDL on 07/15 that CMLL is running a Friday night show?

  18. The new chick at Arena Mexico doesn’t just announce the winners, she SCREAMS the winners in the most annoying voice possible.

    Another win for CMLL!

  19. @Rob: How do you record streaming video on a computer? Will that work for any stream, or just a windows media player like how C3 airs??

  20. I used the think Tiffany was the sexiest woman in wrestling but now I say that it’s Amapola. She used to be a brunette but since going blond, she looks like a Mexican Lady Gaga, and with a much more developed body…..she just oozes with sexiness.

  21. @Infermas: And you go quiet when challenged to respond. The bitter man here appears to be you…

@Vic: You’re asking the wrong guy for technical advice. I recorded C3 last week and had to re-teach myself how to record again today to grab the show once more. I use VLC Media Player but an older version b/c the new version is way too complicated when it comes to recording streams. I think any stream can be recorded as long as you have the direct link for it. For example the direct link to the C3 stream is http://canal44.iphonewebtown.com/canal44 – If you just have a website address where they are playing video I don’t think it will work. I’ve yet to figure out how to record the XEJ stream or stuff that is streamed to me via skype.

  22. @Rob: My friend’s still recording! He’s just busier now than he was before.

What time did CMLL air? I missed it. I set it up to record at the time it was listed on the GUIDE! Came back home to see boxing and then even worse I also recorded LATV and it was a repeat. Ugh. Very annoying. Probably gonna end up being Guadalajara on Teleformula too.

  23. @Alfredo: Here, it aired two hours early.

Gala reaired the Mexico game instead of the overnight replay, and so I missed that too. Was going to stay up to check and was just too tired. Sad. Only have the last hour to post this week.

Teleformula has the top 3 from 05/31 GDL.

  24. @thecubsfan: It sucks that even now Galavision still has the same issues we use to deal with CMLL 10-15 years ago with their scheduling of lucha. I use to record CMLL and AAA and I think back in 1999, I always had a hard time keeping up with the schedule even with a TV Guide.

I probably wouldn’t have caught the show anyway since I went to a wrestling show.

  25. Very unfair coverage of Acción in Televisa today for lucha libre.
Starting with the 10 moments of the week, where most of them were about soccer (national and international), Boston Bruins win and the return of Arturo Rivera at Triplemania XIX (!??).
Later in the program they showed footage of CMLL’s Juicio Final semimain (which kind of gives hopes it can be released prior to the six months) and AAA’s Triplemanía mask vs hair. The show stealelers in both segments were Mr. Niebla and the destruction to the commentators table, respectively.
At half program, no word about the CMLL’s mask vs mask result.

  26. @Rob: I dont know why u took it personal when i didnt mean to be u anyway also i didnt reply cos i dont spend all the time here and dont take as is about u what i say and cubs good review of the show i admire ur work cheers
