AAA
One of the high-profile issues with Monterrey’s TripleMania was the Mega championship match not coming together until days before the show. That’s not a problem for Tijuana. AAA held a press conference Monday in Tijuana to announce three of the seven matches for the July 15th card, including the mega championship match. Those matches:
- a Copa TripleMania with Baja California and Mexico City teams, lead by Nicho/Psicosis and Negro Casas
- Sam Adonis & Psycho Clown vs Rush & LA Park, the losing team meets in a hair vs mask match in Mexico City.
- Kenny Omega vs Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship.
It’s fantastic AAA actually got the Vikingo/Omega rematch done. I had my doubts about it happening at all and wrote about them here a lot after the weirdness around the last month. AAA appears to have finally gotten Kenny Omega to return. It’ll be an excellent match and one where the finish will be in doubt; AAA has been consistent in saying they’d be happy to have Omega as champion again.
Adonis/Psycho vs Rush/Park we knew already coming of Monterrey. Casas & Psicosis leading teams is a better idea than those guys working a singles match. It may be 5v5 like Monterrey, and it’s probably setting up one more of these for Mexico City. Those top two are eye catching enough that an international libre fan may consider going to Tijuana, so it’s great AAA got that word out early enough that people can plan going if they’d like.
(The AAA graphics list the building as “Estadio de Los Toros de Tijuana” That’s the same baseball stadium as previously announced, just an unsponsored name for the building at the moment.)
LA Park announced on Twitter that he’s coming to TripleMania Tijuana to lose again and force himself and Rush into a mask versus hair match. That is the logical structure of the match: both teams trying their best to lose. I don’t know if they can work a match like that, or if they’ll end up working a normal match for 90% and then do a lot of stuff in the finish.
AAA also had a TV taping on Saturday.
AAA TV (SAT) 04/22/2023 Auditorio de Tijuana, Tijuana, Baja California [AAA, TJ Sports, Zona Ruda]
1) Dinámico, Genio del Aire, Kamik-C, Skalibur b Arkángel Divino, Fantastik, Rayo Star, Último Maldito
Dinamico beat Rayo Star with a mask pull. Konnan said the Mexicali and Baja California teams would meet in a cage match soon. Adonis confronted Konnan him, and Psycho Clown, Rey Escorpion and Pentagon all got involved.
2) Aramis & Willie Mack b Látigo & Parka Negra
Aramis replaced Nino Hamburgesa, Parka Negra replaced Toxin.
3) Dalys, Octagón Jr., Persephone DQ Chik Tormenta, Flammer, Villano III Jr.
Villano III unmasked Octagon Jr. Latigo & Crazy Frank got involved. Negro Casas made the save post match to tease the mixed tag title challenge against Flammer (and Abismo Negro Jr.)
4) Emperador Azteca, Puma King, Taurus b Hijo Del Vikingo, Jack Cartwheel, Komander
Emperador Azteca fouled Komander. Taurus moved down to replace Gringo Loco.
5) Juicy Finau, Negro Casas, Rey Horus b Forastero, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Sansón
Dinamico and Crazy Frank got involved; Crazy Frank took a chokeslam onto glass. Negro Casas and Nicho got into a fight after the match.
6) Nicho el Millionario, Rey Escorpión, Sam Adonis b Laredo Kid, Pentagón Jr., Psycho Clown
Nicho replaced Antifaz, but Antifaz attacked Laredo after the match. Adonis beat Psycho via foul. Casas confronted Nicho after the match.
This show drew great; looks like a sell-out in photos. That’s a good sign with TripleMania Tijuana on the horizon here.
This won’t air on TV for at least a month; you may forget everything that happened by then. Komander going from main eventing for the mega title to getting beat by Emperador Azteca (who’s never been on the top half of these shows before) is a shift. Maybe it’s just to set up another forever feud, like Octagon/Villano. Persephone is Ciudad Juarez’s Black Widow, voluntarily unmasking as a new character. (She’s also in a relationship with Villano III Jr.) There are often a lot of Tijuana-only characters on these AAA shows but hopefully, she’s a full-time AAA roster member if she unmasked for the spot. I’m thinking the Mexicali/Tijuana cage match is probably slated for a future EMW show rather than TripleMania itself.
CMLL
CMLL (FRI) 04/21/2023 Arena México [AS, CMLL, Kaiser Sports, R de Rudo, The Gladiatores, thecubsfan]
1) Diamond & Oro Jr. b Inquisidor & Raider
10:32.
2) El Audaz, Star Black, Valiente b El Hijo del Villano III, Felino, Rey Bucanero
17:55.
3) Templario TLDRAW Panterita del Ring Jr. [lightning]
great match. Templario appeared to have the match won right before the time limit, but Panterita kicked out the gutwrench super powerbomb at 9:57.
4) Místico, Stuka Jr., Último Guerrero b Atlantis Jr., Averno, Volador Jr. [Relevos Increíbles]
14:06.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr. b Gran Guerrero, Bárbaro Cavernario, Titán, Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Hechicero, Euforia, Stigma, Mephisto [CMLL Universal, semifinal]
27:05. CMLL champions block. Order of eliminations: Stigma (via Mephisto), Niebla Roja (Euforia), Cavernario (Dragon Rojo), Mephisto (Angel de Oro), Hechicero (Gran Guerrero), Angel de Oro (Titan), Euforia (Titan), Titan (Dragon Rojo), Gran Guerrero (Dragon Rojo) leaving Dragon Rojo as the winner despite a leg injury. He advanced to the final with Templario & Atlantis Jr. next Friday.
Dragon Rojo whiffed on the double stomp on Cavernario, fell backwards on top as if a senton, got the pin, then got knocked down by Hechicero. Somewhere in there, Dragon Rojo hurt his right knee. He moved porly the rest of the match, whiffing on the double stomp again on the finish. The missed double stomps looked terrible and this was a concerning performance for a year that seems to have big Dragon Rojo matches on the horizon. Dragon Rojo’s career has been a struggle with injuries. Hopefully, this was just a jammed knee and he’ll be better next week, but there’s no knowing how long he’ll hold together.
Templario/Panterita is worth going out of your way to see. They instantly had chemistry and should be wrestling against each other for the next decade. I was truly surprised they went to a draw; Templario seemed like he was going to just beat the ten minute time limit, but Panterita clearly kicked out in time (and they played it off like they wanted to go longer, not that they messed up the timing.) The Mistico trios was classic Mistico in Arena Mexico stuff. There were some big bumps in the second match but it or the first weren’t too notbale.
CMLL (SAT) 04/22/2023 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Galaxy & Shockercito b Pequeño Olímpico & Pierrothito
2) Hera b La Vaquerita [lightning]
3) El Coyote, Okumura, Pólvora b Apocalipsis, Cholo, Disturbio
Apocalipsis, Cholo and Disturbio are Los Indestructibles. They lost.
4) Esfinge, Fugaz, Star Black b Magia Blanca, Magnus, Rugido
5) Atlantis, Guerrero Maya Jr., Volador Jr. b Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Yota
6) Atlantis Jr. b Último Guerrero
I was able to confirm this show is airing. It does not appear to be airing on Mexicali Canal 66, at least on the weekend. It’s not surprising for Atlantis Jr. to beat Ultimo Guerrero at this point.
CMLL (SUN) 04/23/2023 Arena México [CMLL]

2) Robin, Sangre Imperial, Valiente Jr. b Dr. Karonte I, Dr. Karonte II, Enfermero Jr.

4) Princesa Sugehit b La Magnifica [lightning]
5) Dulce Gardenia, Espíritu Negro, Rey Cometa b Gemelo Diablo I, Gemelo Diablo II, Sagrado
6) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Yota b Titán, Valiente, Volador Jr.
Nothing notable here.

Yes, there were two different private sponsored shows at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara on Sunday. One at 10 AM, the second at 2 PM. Both streamed. The main event didn’t go particularly long on either show. Jabil is a multinational manufacturing company with a factory in Guadalajara.
CMLL (TUE) 04/25/2023 Arena México
1) Micro Gemelo Diablo I, Micro Gemelo Diablo II, Micro Sagrado vs Átomo, Chamuel, Periquito Sacaryas
2) Sangre Imperial vs Enfermero Jr. [lightning]
3) Astral & Robin vs Grako & Nitro
4) El Audaz, Fuego, Hombre Bala Jr. vs Cancerbero, Luciferno, Virus
5) Esfinge, Fugaz, Star Black vs Felino, Hijo del Villano III, Yota
6) Panterita del Ring Jr., Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Ángel de Oro, Bárbaro Cavernario, Niebla Roja
A 2v2 tag match in match 3 is odd, but that’s probably a result of the micros wrestling a trios match and CMLL having a set number of people booked for Tuesday shows. Esfinge is under the impression he’s feuding with Yota.
CMLL (FRI) 04/28/2023 Arena México
1) Galaxy, Shockercito, Último Dragóncito vs Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
2) Capitán Suicida, Neón, Valiente Jr. vs Magia Blanca, Magnus, Rugido
3) Princesa Sugehit © vs Zeuxis [CMLL WOMEN]
8th defense
4) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Soberano Jr. vs Averno, Mephisto, Satánico
5) Místico, Titán, Volador Jr. vs Gran Guerrero, Stuka Jr., Último Guerrero
6) Atlantis Jr. vs Templario vs Dragón Rojo Jr. [CMLL Universal, final]
Normal CMLL booking is Dragon Rojo wins this to fatten him up for the big loss later on. CMLL’s not as strict on their booking as in past years.
The fifth match is the same good Mistico match he’s been doing this month. Satanico’s wrestling a lot this week. The women’s title match wasn’t built up at all. It makes me think something happened late where Vaquer, Lluvia or Jarochita couldn’t make this date and plans changed in that tag feud. Match 2 is an interesting test of Los Depredadores as rudos.
IWRG
IWRG (SUN) 04/23/2023 Arena Naucalpan
1) Águila Roja & Baby Star b Kenji & Rey Aztaroth
2) Danessa & Sagitarius b Dehyna & Satania
3) Fussion, Noisy Boy, Spider Fly b Black Danger, León Dorado, Rey Halcón
4) Cerebro Negro Jr. b Puma de Oro
sets up an IWRG IC MIDDLE title match
5) Gran Pandemónium, Hijo de Pandemónium, Pandemónium Jr. b Cerebro Negro, Nosaki, Rocky Casas
6) Gianna Valetta, Heavy Metal, Shocko b Asterboy, Hellboy, Travis Banks
Valetta beat Hellboy via Rocky Casas distraction.
This card didn’t show up until 48 hours before the show, which is a real ‘what is going on here?’ situation. What’s going on in the main event is probably Heavy Metal/Hellboy feud. They are pushing the idea of Hellboy defending the IWRG Mexico title against foreigners and Valetta pinned him, so maybe that’ll happen first.
Other News
There will be a Canek 50th Anniversary show in Irapuato on April 28th, which is strange location for someone from Tabasco and a star in Mexico City. Canek is not listed as wrestling, which is probably for the best but also unusual for him. His son is wrestling.
