Back when I came up when I started the luchadb in 2005, I thought the important matches I was tracking would be “taped matches airing on television networks.” Those still exist – that’s still what AAA is – but most of the available lucha libre that’s worth paying attention is either “live show airing on a streaming website” or “taped event airing on a streaming website.” I needed to change how these works behind the scene to accommodate that change, and I think I’m a little closer to doing it. You won’t see anything different, but maybe it’ll make it easier for me to share information.
This week’s matches:
You don’t really need to hear from me when something reaches the level of Volador/Romero, plenty of other (more important) people are going to tell you about it. I suspect it wouldn’t have gotten noticed if it was treated like a normal CMLL Friday show and not available until two weeks later. Stuka/Mistico was a classic Mistico match with a good rudo opponent. The Big Lucha/GALLI trios were a lot of fun live; you can still watch it on PPV here.
AAA aired the unseen Marvel Lucha Libre from 12/28. I had it was OK; it was good in parts, but the strange finish (where someone’s not eliminated in an elimination match) takes away from it. That’s the last 2022 match unless/if RIOT turns up. It says something about the regard I hold RIOT in that I’m still considering going back and watching it at this point. The 2022 page has been updated at any rate.
