Como Estaz 7×1: TripleMania Monterrey 2022

Rob and I talked about TripleMania on Twitter Spaces for a half-hour, but you can’t quite put that in a podcast feed. You can use OBS to record it afterward, add a muffled introduction, spend 15 minutes remembering how you upload a podcast and then do that, so that’s what I’ve done.

Outside of Twitter not allowing me to do the Twitter Spaces on @luchablog, that bit went fairly well and maybe we’ll try it again in the future.

  1. Thank you so much for the analysis and context. I’m a casual lucha fan and watched the show with complete newbies who were there for Ultimo because we were WCW kids and we really enjoyed the madness. It’s really fascinating to hear you guys break everything down from the perspective of watching everything.

I kinda want to watch AAA all year now.

  2. I thought the legends all beat expectations in their matches. I didn’t expect anything out of Park/Villano IV or Canek. Park/V4 went too long and was slow, but it wasn’t bad and didn’t embarrass anyone. Canek’s obviously limited, but they covered up his weaknesses well, he did a good job as a heel and I came out of it being up for another Canek match. Demon/Rayo could have been better as Demon can do technical matches and Rayo could have worked with that, but the Dinamita’s coming in was cool and I still liked it just to see two big names of the past go at it. I thought Ultimo/Penta was fine but Ultimo could do more than he did here.

This mask tournament was really a good idea. It gave three sets up of matches to fill up shows and the results actually matter since you risk losing the match. These matches wouldn’t have worked as well without the stipulation.

I didn’t like the main and I don’t watch intergender stuff. The men’s three way tag and the main were zero logic spotfests as expected.

  3. Zero logic spotfests? I felt like the Bucks were the only guys on the entire show playing actual heels. They cut out all their stuff to make the two flyers shine, they ran from them, they did bumbling spots… I’ll give you all the multi-mans being the same but it really discredits the Bucks who could have easily hung with Fenix/Vikingo & did all their flying stuff but realized there was no need to do that since it wasn’t it their role on this night.

If you don’t like the Bucks, that’s cool. But to drop a blanket statement on that match as being in the same league as the nonsense 3 way & 4 way tag just seems like you have an open bias here. Those matches were not comparable.

  4. I am pretty sure this prowresblog is the same fool that constantly posts his bad takes on /wooo/ – don’t mind him.
