TripleMania 29 press conference to place Tuesday
Azteca announced this Wednesday night. AAA hasn’t announced it themselves. I’d guess noonish. The timing is normal; AAA’s typically held a TripleMania press conference a week or two after Rey de Reyes. It’s just that Rey de Reyes was much later than usual.
We don’t know much. Rey de Reyes set up Deonna Purrazzo versus Faby Apache for both the Impact and AAA titles, which presumes they’ll both stay champions. Andrade challenged Kenny Omega in a way where that match is also likely happened, though it’s not official yet.
There is no suggestion of when the show might be, not even a month. AAA might give out a date on Tuesday. I’m not entirely sure it will mean much. AAA gave dates last year and the pandemic pushed it back repeatedly. The virus is still out there and will be until anyone who wants to get a vaccine can get one. It’s also in AAA’s interest to hold off TripleMania as long as possible in hopes to have full capacity. AAA knows all of this and might give their best guess at a date anyway to start planning, but maybe don’t book a hotel room you can’t cancel.
Last year’s TripleMania announcement also included an announcement of a loser’s advance tournament where the ultimate loser team would have a mask match at TripleMania. Fenix & Penta and Octagon Jr. & Myzteziz Jr. seemed unlikely to lose, which meant one of Villano III Jr., Dave the Clown, Aerostar, and Drago agreed to a mask loss that never happened. Figure it gets reworked for 2021 or it’s dropped entirely.
CMLL announces full card for the 05/28 Copa Dinastia card
CMLL , Ticketmaster (FRI) 05/28/2021 Arena México
1) Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Virus [lightning]
2) Cavernario, Dragón Rojo Jr., Hechicero vs Fugaz, Stuka Jr., Titán
3) Atlantis & Atlantis Jr. vs Flyer & Volador Jr. and Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero and Cuatrero & Sansón and Espíritu Negro & Rey Cometa and Gemelo Diablo I & Gemelo Diablo II and Felino & Felino Jr. and Black Panther & Blue Panther Jr. and Blue Panther & Cachorro and Ephesto & Panterita Del Ring Jr. and Flyer & Volador Jr. [Copa Dinasita]
debut of Panterita del Ring (19)
This is the Arena Mexico debuts of second-generation wrestlers Cachorro and Panterita del Ring Junior. The latter had been on Informa prior to talk about his amateur wrestling exploits and appeared this week as well.
Those two new Panther teams expand the field to a ten-team tournament, which is a number that makes the battle royal meaningful beyond seeding. The eight teams eliminated will form one block and the two left in the ring at the end will be in their own separate block. (Another way of looking at is the final two get a bye all the way to the semifinals.) It also adds two more matches to a very long show; they’ll go thirteen including the battle royal.
Titan and Hechicero are matched up on 05/21 and 05/28. It’s probably more of a coincidence than a set-up to a feud, but worth keeping in the mind on the finish next Friday.
CMLL also announce the 05/21 will be a TicketmasterLive PPV. The Copa Dinastia already was announced as one. Both are now 196 MXP ($10 USD), though they both may go up closer to their show time. Weekly CMLL Ticketmaster PPVs flopped when CMLL tried them last year. They may be trying again just because it’s the first live show, but going back to this strategy after the novelty wears off is likely to be just as unsustainable.
Princesa Sugehit, on a CMLL media tour, believed the promotion was close turning an all-female show in June. It’s worth nothing CMLL is in the middle of 10 months stretch where none of their TV has mattered and few of their PPVs have either; it would’ve been both simple and low risk to run an all women’s show at any point had that been an idea CMLL was even slightly curious about. I’m not sure they’re as particularly anti-women’s wrestling as they are anti-trying and a cibernetico or a tournament is a lot less work.
TV Notes
- Último Dragóncito vs Pequeño Olímpico
- Marcela & Mystique vs La Comandante & Reyna Isis
- Cavernario, Soberano Jr., Titán vs Ángel de Oro, Mephisto, Terrible
The main event is a rematch from last week, where Angel de Oro apparently faked a foul from Cavernario, which means they’re currently heading to a singles match on May 21st.
That minis match is not quite as old as Blue Panther versus Satanico but it’s still 55 versus 48.
No lineups for 05/14 CMLL on MVS, or Televisa, or AAA yet. Maybe later.

Aster Boy/Baby Extreme title match set up
I didn’t see this show and don’t have many thoughts. No one should be allowed to wrestle as “Black Shadow II”, there’s been eight of those guys.
IWRG (SUN) 05/16/2021 Arena Naucalpan
1) Hellboy vs Blue Monster Jr.
2) Legendario & Puma de Oro vs Ciber & Especie Maligna
3) Baby Xtreme, Freelance, Mexica vs Fly Warrior, Low Rider, Toxin
4) Diva Salvaje, Jessy Ventura, Pasion Kristal vs Estrella Divina, Zorayita, Zoy Raymunda
5) As Charro NG, Emperador Azteca, Súper Nova vs Canek Jr., Hijo del Fishman, Máscara Sagrada Jr.

La Empresa is doing nothing for me but it is giving Puma King something new to do. Third match is going to be all over the place.
Other News
LA Park is off all shows this weekend due to pneumonia, according to the Arena Neza Facebook. Through the magic of gossip and media outlets trying to write the headline most likely to get clicked on, this turned into “LA Park is in grave condition.” His sons took Facebook to say the father is sick but home and resting in stable condition. I think it’s better for wrestlers to be open about things like “why I’m missing the show”, but the flipside is giving a little bit off info got churned into a much bigger story.
Penta replaces LA Park in Neza. Arena Mama Lucha had Park on Saturday and will postpone the show until he’s healthy. Park was scheduled for Arena Coliseo Reynosa and they haven’t announced anything.
Zona 23 teased a big announcement about their future and then announced a combination show with GCW on July 18th. Those who go to Zona 23’s May 23rd show will get the first crack at getting tickets.
The best bit going on at the moment is in KAOZ’s Centro de Alto Rendiemento over in Nuevo Leon. The promotion. They’ve been running there since January, often listing micro-promotion Rompiendo Madres as co-promoting the show. KAOZ is a big Monterrey area group, Rompiendo Madres ran a total of one known show prior to the pandemic. It’s weird that lucha libre promotions have such unbalanced partnerships, but it’s not uncommon. KAOZ has Konnan helping with the creative direction and supplying AAA-affiliated wrestlers, which means KAOZ is off-limits to anyone wrestling for CMLL. Rompiendo Madres appears to exist as the workaround; they’re the only listed promotion when CMLL wrestlers are on the talent, even the building, the rest of the wrestlers, and the posters make it appear to a normal KAOZ show. They pulled this bit on May 2 with Sanson and Tiffany in from CMLL and are running it back with Forastero, Sanson, and Estrellita on June 4th, with two KAOZ title matches. Perhaps things are truly run differently when RompiendoMadres is the only group on the poster, but it appears to from the outside to be a KAOZ shell promotion, and CMLL’s vetoed work for far less. CMLL people in charge here have to be dumb, not paying attention, or purposefully playing with different rules for different people for KAOZ to be getting away with this.
Add Lady Apache to the wrestling/celebrity candidates being put forward by Mexico’s RSP party, as noted by SuperLuchas. Lady Apache is running for a local office in the Alvaro Obregon district. Like all the RSP candidates, she’s unlikely to win.
There’s a poster for a Caristico versus Averno tag match in Monterrey, though I haven’t seen either of the two listed promoters share it themselves. It’ll be interesting to see if they get to have it.
