new Federacion Wrestling wrestler, AAA TV notes

Villano III Jr. put up a teaser of him going to Federacion Wrestling. He might be the missing name of Rey Horus vs Flamita vs ? match. (There’s also that 20 man match.) It also suggests he didn’t sign a new deal with AAA and is working there as a freelancer, since we haven’t seen full-time AAA wrestlers also work be announced for Federacion.

Federacion Wrestling also announced a discount on their PPV until May 31st. It’s odd but seems to be a standard bit in Mexico; CMLL has done this with every show. They do it from the moment the tickets go on sale, while anyone who bought tickets for Federacion Wrestling in the first few days paid full price. Their website presents this strangely

  • if you’re in Mexico, you have to buy a Mexico ticket for 311 Mexican pesos ($15.39 USD)
  • if you’re in Japan, you have to buy a Japanese ticket for oddly specific 504.68 Mexican pesos ($24.95 USD)
  • if you’re anywhere else, you have to buy a worldwide ticket for 409 Mexican pesos ($20.25 USD)

It’s unclear why the price differs for each country. Maybe it’s tax but that’s normally calculated at purchase time, not requiring different tickets. I have no idea if you can just buy the “Mexico” ticket and watch it anywhere. There’s still no information I’ve seen about if this show is live only or available on VOD; there’s a lot here that might not give you confidence on this show coming together.

A local Zacatlan, Puebla media outlet covered AAA’s tapings in that city on Monday. The article said that set of tapings will air May 15th and 22nd on Space (and one week later for each on Azteca.) Venenoide was mentioned among those appearing, so there’s at least one Marvel Lucha Libre match. I’m not quite sure what’s airing this week; maybe AAA kept taping after Rey de Reyes, that’s where that trios title match occurred, and it’ll air this week?

CMLL Informa is focusing on the biggest news in lucha libre today: CMLL Informa reaching 7 years. Guests scheduled are Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero, Terrible, Princesa Sugehit, Blue Panther Jr., Black Panther, Reyna Isis, and Retro. Terrible & Sugehit were on last week talking about Copa Bobby Bonales so I’m surprised they’re back again. Guerreros and Panthers seem like Copa Dinastia. Reyna Isis and Retro seem like TV matches for this week.

Samuray del Sol (ex-Kalisto) appears to be teasing a boxing match for celebrity fight group Triller, as pointed out by SuperLuchas. That probably pays well, though no idea how well he’ll do without knowing an opponent. Also no idea how his non-compete would fit with boxing.

Diamante Azul seems like he’s shortened his name to DMT Azul, though I’ve also seen it as Diamante Azul DMT and haven’t seen ‘officially’ on a poster. The “does Sofia or CMLL own Diamante Azul” bit was always going to be unresolved because it’s simple just to change to a slight variation and move on.

In a seeming dispatch from a different reality, the head of the Mexico State Boxing and Lucha Libre commission head Juan Jose Herrera says lucha libre in his state is only happening in clandestine arenas. I guess advertising it, having thousands of people there, and streaming it online weekly is clandestine. Herrera claims they’re punishing wrestlers who work these shows, though only mildly because they understand many have been out of work for multiple jobs.

25 people died and many more were injured when a Mexico City bridge collapsed under the weight of metro trains late Monday night. Among those listed injured was Jose Alvarado Nieves; Maximo took to Twitter to clarify that was not his father who was involved, just another person with a similar name.

Laredo Kid versus Gringo Loco airs on MLW’s TV tonight. Neither guy wins much in MLW; there’s a half chance they both just get beat up by some heels. MLW is also teasing the payoff for the Azteca Underground bit; the idea for months is Dario Cueto is behind it at all, and maybe they’ll get him to show up for 10 seconds at the end. This appears to be the final MLW show taped last year; they’ll have no new episodes until July.

Psycho Clown is wrestling in Berwyn (Chicago) on May 21st. Estrellita is listed on the card, which is almost the same deal as what led to CMLL announcing they were cutting ties with Bandido. I don’t think that’ll happen with Estrellita. Okumura is wrestling in the same venue on May 16th.

Arena Olimpico Laguna, which was in continuous operation from 1954 until the pandemic, re-opens with Mistico & Dragon Rojo on May 20th.

Mas Lucha has a new episode of En+carados.

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report.

IWTV put up the most recent Lucha Memes show. These are going up quicker than they used to.

El Sol de San Juan Del Rio has an interview with local luchador Silver Fox.

  1. Ideally, for the Informa anniversary, Ultimo just takes over the show and kicks out JCR.
