Munoz re-sign with ROH, Taurus debuts on Impact, Laredo Kid/Lio Rush tonight in MLW

Dragon Lee & Rush re-upped with Ring of Honor and La Bestia del Ring has signed a contract with the promotion, they announced on Tuesday. Masked Republic had previously told SI this deal was close to happening; it’s possible it was signed a while back and held back to announce until after their match on TV this weekend. No terms or length were mentioned.

ROH also announced Rush defends the world title against Shane Taylor on their TV show the weekend of 02/27.

Black Taurus debuted as a regular on Impact Wednesday night, he’s teaming with Crazy Steve and Rosemary as part of Decay. The trios will wrestle on Saturday’s Impact Plus show. Taurus had appeared on Impact prior when they were in Mexico City; this is meant to be a regular gig going forward. Impact was specific about calling him “AAA’s Black Taurus”, a weird mix considering “Black Taurus” is his non-AAA name. If they were doing this through AAA, he would’ve just been Taurus similar to Fenix/Rey Fenix. And anything done in US through AAA seems like it’d be an issue with the ongoing FMV lawsuit.

Laredo Kid versus Lio Rush, AAA & MLW titles both on the line, airs on YouTube tonight at 6 pm CT. Laredo Kid still has a title belt and is advertised this weekend as defending it, though it’s AAA so anything is possible. I would be very surprised if Laredo Kid won both titles given how he’s been used in MLW, but I don’t have a perfect grasp of MLW’s patterns. They have done a lot of storyline stuff on the last couple of shows and a non-finish seems most likely.

CMLL Informa will have Valiente, Rey Bucanero, Star Jr., and Halcon Suriano Jr. as guests. Halcon Suriano is one of the wrestlers who were in CMLL before the pandemic but have not yet wrestled empty arena shows. Julio Cesar Rivera had said Suriano was still with the promotion a few weeks ago.

El Hijo del Santo is wrestling on IWC Legacy’s show on 03/21 in Denver. Looking back, he’s shown up more in the US in the last two years than in Mexico.

Blue Demon Jr. says he learned how to paint by watching Bob Ross videos. This is an article about Blue Demon running for mayor. He would like to open a gallery in Mexico City, as well as a souvenir shop in Los Angeles. Demon’s three-point plan for Gustavo A. Madero is safety, health, and economic reactivation. He argues that it’s not important for the people of Gustavo A. Madero to know his real name because most of them probably couldn’t name the current mayor of Gustavo A. Madero. He plans to work on Mayor duties Monday through Friday and then lucha libre on Saturday & Sunday, and he’ll also somehow fit in the Disney stuff even if means working remotely at times. Demon notes he would like to have a 32 hour day to get everything done.

La Tijera Lucha Libre interviewed IWRG’s Marco Moreno recently. Among the topics discussed was the recent attendance in Arena Naucalpan. Mexico State had a rule permitting only 30% capacity for events. Moreno says Arena Naucalpan seats 2,200 and claimed they were actually only seating 600 people. He explained the reason it looked more is his father (Adolfo Moreno, originally IWRG owner) painted the seating areas black so they’d look more full, but they’ve strictly followed all the health rules. Meanwhile, IWRG has been holding their 80 person tryouts over the last week in Arena Naucalpan, which doesn’t quite seem like it’s keeping with all the health rules at the moment. (It seems likely to be taped for video content.) Moreno mentions they plan on doing tryouts annually going forward. He also talked about the PALL alliance and some of the delinquent IWRG titles. Los Traumas and Negro Navarro are the current IWRG trios champions, having won the titles in 2015 and not defending them in Arena Naucalpan since 2017. Moreno explained he preferred having titles won and lost in the ring, though the titles are his intellectual property and he can take them back or stop other people from using them if he wants.

IWRG’s recent closed-door tryouts will start airing on Mas Lucha Monday.

Lucha Memes announced their 03/07 Coacalco Forever show. First match:

This is the event people who fund the donadora.org campaign will get a link to see. That campaign is up to 34% funded; it really needs a bigger match announcement or the overdue release of the Guerra de Naciones show to get some momentum. Everyone is hopeful lucha libre shows will be allowed in Mexico City by March 7th, though it’s not a certainty even no fans shows will be permitted. It is also possible this may still be run extra-legally.

Hijo de Dos Caras has turned up in Lucha Time. The brother of Alberto gets a lot of his Mexican bookings by promoters also looking to use Alberto himself. Not sure if that’s the end here.

Mas Lucha has a new edition of their En+carados podcast.

Ovett’s wife posted Tuesday morning that Ovett was better but still in very grave situation due to lack of oxygen. She thanked everyone for their support.

Guatemala’s Arena Guatemala Mexico says they’ve got permission to reopen on 02/28.

Oaxaca luchador Fito Cisneros (Adolfo Vasquez Hernandez, 55) passed away Monday. He was a regular at Arena Pepe Cisneros, which recently announced they’re going back on hiatus.

Xalapa luchador Silver Tempest (60) passed away on Tuesday due to COVID-19.

Panamanian luchador Olimpico (Luis Alfonso Coloma Ruiz, 72, not related to the CMLL one) passed away Monday. Originally a boxer, he trained in Olympic style wrestling and got the name from that. He was a star from the 60s to the 80s, helped by EMLL and later UWA sending talent to Panama City like any other regular spot. The obits mention Olimpico winning “the Oriental World Heavyweight Championship” in 1966, becoming the first wrestler to win a world title. (From the photos, it appears they put someone under a mask to make it appear they were a Japanese champion.) Olimpico also wrestled in Colombia and Guatemala. He’d been posting old photos on Instagram this past year.

Retired Yucatan Halcon Rojo Sr. says he closed the pizzeria he and his luchador sons ran early on the pandemic because he felt the close contact with customers was a bad idea. He ended up being an uber driver after six weeks with no work.
