The most normal thing in this abnormal year is me being up very late posting a podcast about a wrestling show. We didn’t get to be in Arena Ciudad de Mexico for TripleMania XXVIII but both I and Rob did watch it (on screens of various sizes) and talked about all of the matches. Which ones did we like? Which one were we disappointed by? All that and I annoy Rob by making him think about CMLL for about five minutes.
The podcast goes about 90 minutes. I had a one off set up for this show and got the MP3 sounding OK (but very loud) after a lot of work. Hope it works OK for you.

I reviewed it on my site with pics and gifs: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2020/12/aaa-triplemania-xxviii-12122020.html
I thought most of the people in the matches did too much and many of the matches were longer than they needed to be. I also didn’t like the complete disregard for any rules all night long, because if there’s no rules, then every match should just be a hardcore handicap match.
I thought the Marvel match was the best match of the night. I appreciate Chess and Pagano really putting in effory, but they did too much and didn’t sell.
I think the Marvel gimmick would’ve been better off as one tecnico, and one rudo who teamed with whichever guys they feel can help introduce them into the roster. If it succeeded, then you can start introducing more until it’s a group of heroes, and villains doing battle. This was more or less a merch deal, and there was no effort into making this last more than one night.
Are you a regular AAA viewer ‘ProWresBlog’? Because your takeaways are kind of like if I watched Dragon Gate and complained the action was too fast, there was too much interference & why aren’t they selling the early limbwork? Gotta familiarize yourself with the style/product before going in with unreasonable expectations. AAA is not trying to do NJPW.
From a production standpoint, that lighting grid overhead did not really give off much light. And that bright yellow ring is just bad and seems to reflect. Camera work, like Purpura throwing American over the top rope to the floor was almost a completely missed shot when they went with a wide shot. AAA loves those wide shots when they aren’t needed but they like to show off the professional setup and sponsor logos which pays the bills.
On the brightside no fans in the Arena allowed AAA to move the set close to the ring. Instead of walking about 30 yards from the ring like they did at past Triplemania shows at the venue. This time only about just 10 yards. It cut down on intro times, and to the benefit of the viewer and show pace. Saved a lot of time.
AAA should consider empty arena tapings, at Arena CDMX or some professional venue, like WWE does Amway and Tropicana Field..
Marvel match was good. Their music is good. Bands were cool.
The show gets a thumbs up. AAA delivered.
curse those AAA jerks! not following rules!?!
that’s unheard of!

since it got taken down
Really the Marvel act would’ve probably done better in CMLL at one point in time. Like what if Mistico, and Averno didn’t become those gimmicks, and instead became lucha versions of Spider-Man, and Green Goblin. CMLL would’ve done what they did with Mistico at the time, and gave him all the spectacular spots. Basically what I’m saying is, this would work better in a more conservative company, like how Marvel stood out in a time when cape books were all conservative. Or like luchadors, and their wacky looks, and wrestling were on WCW TV. Luchadors dressed up like Marvel characters, and doing highspots isn’t all that much weirder than what AAA’s roster does. That goes for the past 25 years too.
true, Taurus and Mr Iguana already look like they’d be on a “Ten Weird Spider-Man Villains You Forgot About” clickbait list
