What happened:

just a nice suplex

Barbaro Cavernario submitted Felino to la caverneria but was quickly disqualified for refusing to let go of the hold. Cavernario slapped Edgar for calling the DQ and continued to attack Felino until Negro Casas ran out to make the save. Zacarias spent the match conflicted on who to help and walked off at the end.

Tsukushi pinned Dalys with a casita in her debut.

Thoughts:

The main event was not bad but just the usual send them home happy Tuesday match. Some things didn’t go well but the lack of creativity was the biggest problem. It’s a match that I won’t remember specifically but will remember generally as one of many similar matches.

Cavernario/Felino was a strange match. Both men worked as rudos for most of the match, leaving the crowd with no real rooting interest. The middle of the match seemed more preoccupied with what Zacarias would do, and he never ended up doing anything. The wrestling was solid if unspectacular, but the finish – Cavernario getting disqualified for holding on slightly longer than usual – was weak for the story they were telling.

Casas reversing to the headscissors on Azul was cool. I have nothing I can think to say about the fourth match except I felt really tired during it and little caused me to wake up.

Forastero riding the motorcycle

Usual spots in the tercera, and back to the back matches with long falls. This one was because they were going two falls and wanted to go the usual time, but it felt like a second straight slow-paced match. It didn’t totally keep my interest.

Tsuskushi looked tiny next to the CMLL women and her size become the story of the match. She mostly worked with Isis, which was fine if not something immediately impressive. Tsukushi making no contact with her dropkick wasn’t a good look, though Dalys may have been partly responsible. The first fall felt long and slow, the second two rushed thru to get it back on track.

Ultimo Dragoncito’s suplex looked nice and he and Shockercito tried to mix some flashy offense to end an unnoteworthy opener. Pierrothito wasn’t much into the match and it was for the best it was quick. The timing on the wheelbarrow cutter in the first fall was bad, but entertainingly so.

como estaz 6×7: tonto

We’re back to talk about the 01/31 AAA/EMW show, the 02/01 RIOT show and Rob’s trip to the 02/03 Lucha Memes/Mexa Wrestling show. We go thru all three shows (at least as far as the matches one of us got to see), explain the Arez/MLW situation and talk about other things that came up during the rapid trip thru Mexico.

The podcast went over two hours. It’s also battling some internet issues on Rob’s side; we tried to make the best of it just to get the podcast done in somewhat decent time. I also got sick this week, so I sound more horribly nasally than usual. I think it’s still fine? You’ll let me know.

Felino vs Cavernario tonight, Torneo Increible de Parajeas Block A

tonight

Felino and Cavernario have their first ever singles match tonight in Arena Mexico. It’s the culmination of a short feud over the future (or end) of Pesta Negra following Mr. Niebla’s death. This appears to be a reworking of the Felino/Angel de Oro feud and the new planned main event for Homenaje a Dos Leyendas. Felino figured to work tonight, though the bigger test if convincing people this is a big match for six weeks (or so) from now.

The rest of the show seems like marking time prior to the start of the incredible pairs tournament next week. NGD’s latest main event is against the combination of Caristico, Volador, and Valiente. Diamante Azul & Gilbert face off in a trios match before teaming next week in the tournament, with the Chavez Brothers, Negro Casas, and Euforia. Polvora, Okumura and Tiger face Atlantis Jr., Guerrero Maya Jr., and Flyer in the third match.

Tsuskushi makes her CMLL debut teaming with Marcela and Princesa Sugehit against Dalys, Reyna Isis and Metalica. Tusskushi is only around two weeks, which would make it hard to get to a title match. The minis open up with Shockercito & Ultimo Dragoncito against Pierrothito & Pequeno Nitro.

The show streams at 8:30 pm. I’ll stream it as well.

Lucha Central has a preview of the show.

CMLL Torneo Increible de Parajeas teams

  • Bandido & Ultimo Guerrero
  • Diamante Azul & Gilbert el Boricua
  • Dulce Gardenia & Okumura
  • Caristico & Forastero
  • Angel de Oro & Felino
  • Flyer & Hechicero
  • Guerrero Maya & Universo 2000 Jr.
  • Titan & Mephisto

This appears to be the full block A of the tournament. Caristico/Forastero is the favorite. Bandido & Ultimo Guerrero can’t advance because he’s wrestling on 02/28 in Ring of Honor. CMLL teases doing things with Diamante Azul & Gilbert often but actually does them very rarely. Titan did win last year but Mephisto is a downgrade from Cavernario.

Cibernetico posted a video talking about how AAA should continue supporting La Parka’s family for all he gave to AAA. Cibernetico says La Parka has 13 kids. That’s a lot of kids.

MLW announced Hijo del Vikingo on for the AAA/EMW/MLW show on 03/13 in Tijuana.

Peridco Central interviews Tiger Rojo and Perverso.

Titan talks about the story behind the scar.

DTU posted their schedule thru April.

The boxing and lucha libre commissioner for Tepic says luchadors over 40 years old will not be permitted to wrestle there unless they pass a medical test. They don’t want a death in the ring.

LuchaWorld has the newest edition of the podcast and the latest Lucha Report.

lucha TV preview for weekend of 2020-02-06

full size

This is an AAA week. They’re back at 8 pm with the latest in as trying of Faccion Ingobernables versus tecnicos in the main event against three tecnicos. The twist here is this is claimed to be Dr. Wagner’s last AAA match (though AAA has stayed quiet on it.) Lots of trios matches, with the opener looking good.

Caristico faces NGD Dos on Monday and NGD Uno on Tuesday.

Santo on the future of the name, LA Park/Rush, Wagner/AAA

Hijo del Santo’s annual press conference came with a minor surprise. He explained it is important to him that someone carry on the Santo legacy. The surprise is he suggested it may be his daughter for the first time. This is much “Hijo del Santo is open to the possibility” rather than something she or him are actively working on. Hijo del Santo says his daughter has not trained in wrestling but does practice MMA (and hurt his neck with a hold.) Hijo del Santo’s son, Santo Jr., had been expected to continue the legacy. Hijo del Santo said his son is still working on his university degree and “if he wants to wrestle later, go ahead.” Santo Jr. has not wrestled in 18 months and had not been impressive up to that point. The quotes from Santo suggest he doesn’t expect both his son and daughter to go into wrestling, more “if my son ends up not doing it, maybe my daughter will.”

Hijo del Santo also said he doesn’t rule out a return to CMLL. He made similar comments a few months ago when he worked a Martinez Entertainment show about his willingness to go back to Arena Mexico (and his belief his fans and those fans want to see him there and against those older names there.) It reads as though he would’ve gone back if Paco Alonso was still alive and invited him back, and Sofia Alonso might have been able to get him to go back, but he’s not close to the current Salvador Lutteroth management team. Hijo del Santo is also negative on the current CMLL programming department: “they need new people with fresh ideas, the current team does the same forever.”

Hijo del Santo also claimed the slight changes to Diamond wardrobe – more blue, eye holes seem different – was forced by Hijo del Santo’s lawyers threatening CMLL. That doesn’t seem like a situation where CMLL is going to welcome back Santo soon, though it’s hard to figure out how CMLL thought that was going to fly under the radar.

CMLL Torneo Increible de Parajeas teams

  • Bandido & Ultimo Guerrero
  • Diamante Azul & Gilbert el Boricua
  • Dulce Gardenia & Okumura
  • Caristico & Forastero
  • Angel de Oro & Felino
  • Flyer & Hechicero
  • Guerrero Maya & Universo 2000 Jr.

Looks like Ovaciones had both teams incorrect yesterday (or plans changed since when they were told.) Kawato has no upcoming matches listed in Mexico. If these all block A teams, CMLL should announce the eighth tonight on Facebook.

Dr. Wagner, in a loud mall, announced he will be wrestling Saturday night in Queretaro and it will be his final match with AAA. He doesn’t appear to be on any shows after that point, though AAA’s announced schedule doesn’t go out much farther than that.

El Planchitas claims the TripleMania main event is the LA Park versus Rush mask versus hair match, with the idea they’ll break up sometime in the next few months. I don’t mean to just dismiss the report – the reason LA Park & Rush were put together was clearly so they could restart the rivalry for AAA fans who may not be familiar with Rush. It’s more a matter of timing, and that nothing with LA Park is more than a plan until it happens. There is no other obvious TripleMania headliner match at this point (stuff like Pagano/Chessman & Psycho/Escorpion would be weak headliners compared to recent years), but there are also six months to build one. The column also claims none of the wrestlers in AAA wants to associate with Rush, blaming him for the injury which ended La Parka’s life, going as far to say AAA wrestlers are looking forward to a chance to work out their anger in matches. Planchitas tends to be sensational about these things.

This two-weeks-old news but AAA announced a taping on 03/07 in Cancun. That’s a Saturday card, which is the pattern so far in 2020. They run Merida two weeks later for Rey de Reyes. Those shows were combined in one weekend last year.

RIOT put up Aramis vs Latigo from their 08/23 show. It’s worth checking out.

There was a back and forth between Diosa Quetzal and a promotion in Yucatan about Quetzal not being paid what she was promised.

LuchaTalk has returned with a new episode.

LA Park faces Eddie Kingston in a no DQ match next Friday in London’s York Hall.

A story on Arena Coliseo San Ramon. Tiger Rojo runs the place, moving from a gym that was just big enough for his family to train to something that could welcome more people. It’s pushed as a necessary stepping stone to get to CMLL from PUebla. Okumura told Tigre Rojo that people from Japan have been asking to come Puebla to wrestle there. I suspect Okumura tells that story to every arena he works.

An interview with the Black Panther of Hidalgo.
