CMLL Promos: Kawato San (still going after Dulce), Dulce Gardenia (would like Kawato to learn some lucha libre so the matches can end without fouls), Titan and Mistico & Diamante Azul.
Templario vs Titan looks like it was good. Otherwise, this is a few days of doing nothing since people are headed out of town. CMLL could set up matches for the people who are staying but nah.
Hechicero was an obvious problem for the scheduled Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Hechicero vs Satanico main event. Instead, they ran a trios where Satanico unmasked Fugaz for the DQ. That really shouldn’t happen but CMLL’s gradually realized there’s no one left around who pays attention to this stuff so they can get away doing it with no obvious immediate consequences.
Hiromu Takahashi declared Ryu Lee to be his first challenger in a post-match press conference. That would figure to be on one of the New Beginning shows (02/01 or 02/09.) If things had gone differently, FantasticaMania would’ve probably included a lot of Los Ingobernables/Dragon Lee matches to build to that. Lee wore his ROH TV belt and the La Faccion Ingobernable jersey for his match on the Tokyo Dome show; I was surprised NJPW let him wear the jersey when he’s not meant to be part of the LIJ group.
Still no FantasticaMania lineups, as normal by NJPW’s schedule. They’ll probably not be announced until early Tuesday morning and it may even wait a day longer than that.
Friday night’s AAA spot show in Puebla seems to have drawn close to a full house. It’s about 4,000, so guess around 3,500. The newspaper story talks about Super Porky announcing his retirement on the show; I think he’s announcing his retirement on every show as part of his pitch for donations to help with his health issues.
Canek talks about reaching 45 years of wrestling this year with his hometown of paper. He notes he’s listed as a 1973 debut but considers that only an exhibition, with his actual professional debut coming in 1975. He also plans on having an active 2020. In the state I live in, you have to re-do your driving exam once you get over the age of 75. Canek’s recent performances make the case there should be a relicensing exam for luchadors as well. An active 2020 for Canek is probably strong news for his bank account but not for the lucha libre industry.
