Principe Diamante vs Espiritu Negro (really) in CMLL, a good Lucha Capital tonight?

Titan

15:58. Tecnicos took 2/3.

Vangellys talks about the win. Esfinge kicked out just at three, though I think his intention might have been to kick out a 3.01 and Pompin just is so slow. Everyone reacted like that was meant to be the result, which may or may not be true but at least seemed more professional than usual.

Espiritu Negro & Principe Diamante fits the model of a CMLL prelim feud starting around this time and finishing during the winter holidays. Espiritu Negro seemed into it; he’d be the favorite to be unmasked if no one else gets involved.

CMLL (TUE) 11/12/2019 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Joker, Sádico, Vaquero Jr. b Crixus, Luminoso, Paladin
rudos (La Mafia) took falls 2/3
2) Cancerbero, Exterminador, Raziel b Johnny Dinamo, Magnus, Principe Daniel
Johnny Dinamo replaced Magia Blanca (injury?) earlier in the day. Rudos took 1/3.
3) Amapola, Dalys, La Infernal b La Magnifica, Shoko Nakajima, Silueta
rudas took 2/3
4) Kráneo, Místico, Niebla Roja b Gran Guerrero, Mephisto, Último Guerrero
Volador Jr. & Mistico replaced Angel de Oro (moved up) and Diamante Azul (injury). Mephisto replaced Euforia (moved up). Kraneo then replaced Volador. Tecnicos took 2/3.
5) Euforia b Ángel de Oro
replaced a Fugaz, Kráneo, Stuka Jr. vs Hechicero, Máscara Año 2000, Mephisto match. Euforia won in straight falls.

A situation where CMLL knew the original card wasn’t going to happen but didn’t get up a new lineup until a few hours before the show (and even then had Volador on the lineup.) Magia Blanca hasn’t been mentioned as hurt, he just hasn’t been seen since grabbing his knee against Nitro last Tuesday so it seems a safe guess. Two fall singles matches are rare in CMLL, and a tecnico losing cleanly is strange. I might have to check that out (if I can record it) to see if something happened.

Lucha Capital is into the second half of this year’s season tonight. It also looks like the best lineup of the second round of this tournament. The men’s three-way matches will include Hijo del Vikingo, Taurus, Flamita, Carta Brava, Psycho Clown, Mr. Iguna, Super Fly, Villano III Jr., and Mamba. There are at least two really good triangle matches in there if not all three. The women’s match is La Hiedra vs Hades vs Lady Shani. They aren’t as acclaimed as the three women last week but might work together better. (It’s tough to have less chemistry than the Apache/Keyra/Ayako match last week.)

The tournament also is far enough along that some of the teams will be eliminated if they don’t pick up a point, though it doesn’t seem like anyone’s really invested in that part of the format. AAA has done a good job of keeping viewers updated about the standings, the wins and losses just haven’t felt important to this point. Tonight’s show starts at 9 pm on Facebook.

12/06 EMW in Auditorio de Tijuana

Agustin Martinez Rivera, the owner of Arena Xalapa, passed away. He was 91. A funeral service was held in the arena. The original article mentions he had not been seen much lately, so I suspect someone else has been in charge of the building for a while. There’s a lot of small lucha buildings in the area – it’s up there with Ciudad Juarez as places with so many shows a weekend – but Arena Xalapa is still the main arena in the area, the place AAA uses to run TV, and would be a loss to the local scene if it ended up with people who didn’t want wrestling.
