La Comandante blocked a Caristico dive and was seemingly ejected by Rambo but stuck around. Maybe it was just a warning. Terrible unmasked Caristico for the DQ.
Rey Cometa crashed and burned on a headscissors attempt to the floor to end the tercera. He needed medical attention but was wrestling again a few days later.
Thoughts:
The main was a simple match worked for the tourist crowd, with Terrible being totally evil and dominating the match until heroic Caristico made his comeback. They didn’t do anything too complicated and still got the reactions they wanted out of a Tuesday crowd. It would’ve worked fine with an actual finish and felt flat ending on a mask pull instead.
Negro Casas can rescue a match only so often, leaving a lot of parts that didn’t quite work well with each other. Niebla tried his best with Soberano. I’m concerned Dark Magic tried his best with Dragon Lee, because they didn’t trust him to do anything much.
The idea of putting an inexperienced guy in a high position quickly is to make them a bigger star and have them work with more talented people for them to improve quickly. Neither is happening with Volcano, who had an embarrassing second fall stretch more normally found in a local indie. Stuka & Hechicero are usually great with each other and were much better than any other combination here.
There wasn’t much energy in the tercera and then Rey Cometa took himself out in the end so maybe you can skip that one easy. Really, if Cometa was going to get hurt in this match, I would’ve guessed it would’ve been on Sagrado’s terrible looking slam. Sagrado was good as a rudo at one point but I don’t know about now.
CMLL (TUE) 09/10/2019Arena México [CMLL, Lucha Central, The Gladiatores]
1) Pequeño Nitro & Pierrothito b Fantasy & Último Dragóncito
2) Disturbio, Espíritu Negro, Nitro b Magia Blanca, Oro Jr., Príncipe Diamante Rudos took 1/3.
3) Pegasso, Star Jr., Stigma b Ares (Costa Rica), Escualo (Costa Rica), Kaiser (Costa Rica) Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Rey Cometa b Pólvora [lightning] Rey Cometa won in 8:13.
5) Hechicero, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys b Flyer, Kráneo, Stuka Jr. Rudos took 1/3.
6) Cavernario, Felino, Mr. Niebla DQ Carístico, Valiente, Volador Jr. Cavernario faked a foul from Volador, setting up a singles match.
CMLL (TUE) 09/10/2019Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) Mágico, Metatrón, Rielero b Exterminador, Maléfico, Ráfaga tecnicos took 1/3?. Exterminador’s first match here since May.
2) El Coyote, Hijo del Signo, Sádico b Arkalis, Joker, Retro rudos took 1/3
3) La Jarochita, La Maligna, Sonya b Amapola, La Metálica, Reyna Isis tecnicas took 2/3, setting up a Jarochita/Metalica title match
4) Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón b Diamante Azul, Dulce Gardenia, Soberano Jr. rudos took 1/3.
5) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero b Ángel de Oro, Dragón Lee, Niebla Roja rudos took 1/3, UG stealing Dragon Lee’s mask to pin him. That set up a UG/Lee match.
Ultimo Guerrero and Dragon Lee would be a first time ever match. Dragon Lee has talked about wanting to face different people and it does seem like there’s a CMLL effort to accommodate that wish. Not sure if they have enough different people for it to last though.
Killer Kross talked to Sporting News about his current issue with Impact. He confirms he was booked on the New York show and then was unbooked once Impact came aboard. Kross says he’s spoken with everyone in AAA and he remains on good terms with them.
(Impact coming aboard the AAA NY show late is still confusing. Did AAA not know they needed a New York wrestling license until late? Did something else fall thru?)
Yesterday, Cain Velasquez was on ESPN’s Ariel Helwani’s MMA show. A lot of the lucha libre stuff had been talked about in previous appearances, though Velasquez gives credit to Psycho Clown for helping him learn the headscissors spots he did at TripleMania. He learned them the night before. Velasquez seemed to say his deal with AAA includes the provision that he can’t wrestle (or fight) anywhere else until after the LA show. That’s a pretty sweet deal for AAA.
At the end of the interview, Ariel asked him where he could watch the AAA in NY show. Cain Velasquez explained it would air on Twitch and free in Latin America. That’s how TripleMania aired and how most AAA shows are airing, but the AAA in NY (and LA) shows are airing on FITE TV for $30. Some goofball on Twitter last night pointed out AAA’s done a typically poor job of advertising this fact. In a remarkable coincidence, AAA started mentioning the PPV and RT-ing Fite’s mentions of the show today. There’s still not a lot of awareness about that showing being a PPV and not being on Twitch; maybe AAA ought to do some programming on Twitch Sunday to let people in the US know they need to buy it and to let the Mexican fans to know it won’t be airing until next week), if that’s allowable under their deal with Twitch.
The plan with this AAA show in NY was all along to get a strong walk-up. That needs some word of mouth in the area. Cain doing interviews this week is part of that plan. It’s a good start. Hopefully there are a lot more interviews this week if AAA is trying to attract a big crowd; Demon or Wagner or Taya should be in New York all weekend. From the outside, the AAA NY show instead feels like something AAA was very interested in first and now is doing just to count it among the accomplishments they’ve done, not because they’re particularly invested in making it a success. That’s probably not the case on the inside, there’s likely a cavalcade of people working hard so the AAA show comes together, but there are pieces missing on the promotional side. Today is Wednesday, nearly half the matches for Sunday are still not announced. There is apparently a card – Adrian Mendoza mentioned it looked good, Dave the Clown says he’s on the show, I guess both of those statements could be true – but it’s still not announced nearly 24 hours after that tweet saying it existed.
IWRG (SUN) 09/22/2019Arena Naucalpan
1) Chicanito vs Avisman
2) Puma de Oro & Shadow Boy vs Death Metal & Neza Kid
3) Atomic Star, Auzter, Mexica vs Ra-Zhata, Shil-Kha, Toshiharu
4) Dinamic Black, Freelance, Halcón Negro Jr. vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Capo del Norte & Capo del Sur vs Herodes Jr. & Hijo de Pirata Morgan and Black Warrior Jr. & El Hijo del Medico Asesino and Demonio Infernal & Eterno
6) Hijo del Alebrije, Imposible, Relámpago, Séptimo Dragón, Súpernova, The Tiger vs Ave Rex, Heddi Karaoui, Hip Hop Man, La Mosca, OT Fernandez, Zumbi
Hip Hop Man posted this one a bit early because it’s Hip Hop Man’s return from injury. (Unless he’s the mystery guy on the Argentina team this Monday.) The new evil ninja turtle will make a second appearance. If I know IWRG undercard gimmicks, there’s no telling if he’ll make a third.
Cuatrero, Forastero, Místico, Sansón beat Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Soberano Jr., Último Guerreroin a relevos increíbles match
(8:10 [4:07, 4:03], 1/2 DQ, ok, VideosOficialesCMLL)
What happened:
Mistico tossed his mask to Soberano Jr. when Los Guerreros had the second fall won. Edgar called the DQ. Soberano & Mistico continued to fight post matches, setting up a singles match
Thoughts:
The main event was the most exciting match on the show, with Soberano & Mistico clearly enjoying the chance to go at each other and Mistico getting to play rudo. It just really wasn’t a long match and the two trios existed mostly to set up the match-turning points without getting to develop much on their own. There’s a really satisfying 18-minute match possible and they got 40% of it here.
The other third and fourth matches were fine and not memorable. Stuka is trying to bring his flipping neckbreaker back. It looks good, he should stick with it, and he seemed like the best guy in the semi-main. This Atlantis appearance featured him shuffling around a lot because that was earlier on him. He’s also using a simple takedown as a finish, seeming because it doesn’t require him putting any weight on his legs or jumping. It’s not great.
Hechicero & Panther Jr. went for dramatics on their chop fight. It was alright, like the rest. Hechicero is the best at getting good things out of Panther Jr. but that’s not a surprise. Mascara 2000 attempted to take a dragon screw leg whip from Black Panther and almost lost what is left of his knee.
CMLL (MON) 09/09/2019Arena Puebla [CMLL, Lucha Central]
1) Ares el Poblano, Black Tiger, Guerrero Espacial b Asturiano, Meyer, Millenium Rudos took 1/3.
2) Drone, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Ares (Costa Rica), Escualo (Costa Rica), Kaiser (Costa Rica) tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Hijo del Villano III, Perverso, Universo 2000 Jr. b Black Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Kráneo Perverso replaced Mascara Ano 2000. Rudos took 1/3.
4) Atlantis, Flyer, Titán b Hechicero, Templario, Vangellys Tecnicos took 2/3.
5) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. DQ Dragón Lee, Terrible, Valiente [Relevos Increíbles] Terrible fouled Casas for the DQ.
The DQ came out of nowhere. No idea if it’s setting up that singles match. Dragon Lee/Volador probably couldn’t happen due to other bookings they have on Monday. Casas & Terrible don’t have Monday bookings yet I’ve got yet.
Arena Mexico tonight has Peste Negra versus Caristico, Valiente, and Volador. Last week’s show ended with Cavernario fouling Volador, which seemed like something just to build-up up the cage match announcement for the following day. It’s also possible CMLL just runs Cavernario/Volador randomly on Tuesday because it’s CMLL. Flyer, Kraneo, and Stuka Jr. face Hechicero, Vangellys and Rey Bucanero in the semi-main. Polvora has yet another lightning match, this time against Rey Cometa. The Costa Rica trio finish up their short stint with Pegasso, Star Jr. and Stigma today. The opening matches again include a minis match to open a show. It’ll stream at 7:30 pm on CMLL’s YouTube channel.
Guadalajara has the Guerreros versus Angel de Oro, Dragon Lee, and Niebla Roja. They teased Ultimo Guerrero versus Dragon Lee there last week. A bigger than usual show next Tuesday as a delayed holiday celebration would make sense for both arenas. There’s been no announcement to that extent yet.
CMLL quietly removed Big Daddy from Friday night’s main event. Sanson will replace him. He’s only wrestled in AAA as part of the Gran Prix ciberneticos and last Friday’s semi-main. He may have as few three Arena Mexico matches in CMLL before main eventing Aniversario. It doesn’t appear to be injury because he’s appearing twice in Texas this upcoming Saturday. We just saw with MechaWolf that CMLL will find a spot for any foreigners who are in, so Big Daddy appearing on nothing but a Friday show suggests he’s just not around now. There’s no sign of any falling out between CMLL & Big Daddy, so I’m not sure this means much.
I don’t think current CMLL is capable of making someone a big star in two weeks and I don’t think he’ll be able to do it on his own in matches. Maybe it’s fine in the way that this already not great. Big Daddy remaining a mystery man will inflate the perception among fans that CMLL put him in the match so they can have a nobody lose, but that was already there and I’m not sure if it’ll affect ticket sales. It would help if they got him over as a threat but I don’t think CMLL is interested in doing that either.
AAA posted a promo with Octagon Jr. introducing himself. He says he’ll be on the Morelia show and Heroes Inmortales. There’s a mystery tecnico teaming with Pimpinela and Faby Apache, so that’s probably it for Morelia. No mention of New York.
+LuchaTV has their newest podcast. They talk about the music replacements on Sunday’s AAA show around 1h25m, not really happy about the changes.
Lineup
CMLL (SAT) 09/14/2019Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Sonic vs Cholo & Yago
2) La Guerrera, La Vaquerita, Sanely vs La Infernal, La Seductora, Tiffany
3) Átomo, Gallito, Microman vs Chamuel, Guapito, Perico Zakarías
4) Audaz, Guerrero Maya Jr., Volcano vs Cancerbero, Dark Magic, Raziel
5) Carístico, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
6) Diamante Azul vs Negro Casas
This turned into Diamante Azul singles match weekend. I don’t think even Diamante Azul wants that.
CMLL (SUN) 09/15/2019Arena México
1) Leono & Sangre Imperial vs Apocalipsis & Príncipe Odín Jr.
2) Angelito, Kaligua, Shockercito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia
3) Blue Panther Jr., Dulce Gardenia, Rey Cometa vs Okumura, Sagrado, Virus
4) Stuka Jr., Titán, Valiente vs Ephesto, Felino, Hechicero
5) Carístico, Soberano Jr., Volador Jr. vs Mephisto, Mr. Niebla, Terrible
6) Diamante Azul vs Último Guerrero
There are not many options for lucha libre on 09/15 but maybe a museum would be better than another Diamante Azul main event.
Top few matches should look good and you have a usually interesting Copa Higher Power.
TAO (TUE) 10/01/2019Arena Querétaro
1) Traidor & Zarpa De Tigre vs Ángel Rebelde & Lobo Lafayette and Bon Dracker & Hijo del Mosco X-Fly and Galáctico Dragón & Natague [? TAG]
2) Drabek I, Drabek II, Ursus vs Rey Toro I, Rey Toro II, Rey Toro III
3) Dulce Gardenia, Goya Kong, Halcón Negro Jr., Máscarita Sagrada vs Coquito Amarillo, Hijo Del Picudo, Tifany, Yuriko
4) Lizmark Jr., Mr. Águila, X-Fly vs Dark Cuervo, Dark Ozz, Dark Scoria
5) El Hijo Del Santo & Laredo Kid vs Black Taurus (Indie) & El Hijo del Solitario
Still intrigued by Santo’s bigger schedule. I do wonder if there’s a choice not to wrestle in Mexico City because there are enough goofy promotions that one would pay him to do it if the price has suddenly come down. Independent Goya Kong can work against Tiffany where AAA’s Goya Kong could not.
Lucha Libre Vanguardia (THU) 10/03/2019Autolavado VM, Tulancingo, Hidalgo
1) Caballero Atena & Dayami vs Guerrero Sagrado Jr. & Zuzu Divine
2) Falcón Fire, Gasparin, Lobo Blanco, Rey Dragón, Símbolo Azteca vs Dragón Boy, Freyzer, Jeff Killer, Josh Snipper, Mr. Chivo
3) Colmillo Blanco, Dragón Latino, Tarasco vs Amo de la Noche, Bobby Cruz, Némesis
4) Calibus vs Aramis vs Draztick Boy vs Juventud Aerea [AEREO NACIONAL]
5) Aero Boy & Violento Jack vs Cíclope & Miedo Extremo and Crazy King & Lunatik Fly
Violento Jack returns to Mexico for one night only to team with Aero Boy again. These Vanguardia shows are interesting but we’ve only gotten to see brief clips of the last two shows on +LuchaTV, including a Virus singles match.
AAA TV (SUN) 09/08/2019Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo, Puebla, Puebla [AAA, Lucha Central, thecubsfan]
1) Chik Tormenta, Low Rider, Toxin b Aramis, Draztick Boy, La Parkita 10:00. Toxin replaced Latigo (China). Tormenta beat Parkita with a powerbomb.
2) Bengala, Dinastía, Eclipse b Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Tito Santana 9:43. The newest version of Begnala was the surprise wrestler. Mocha Cota frog splashes Eclipse.
3) Big Mami, Lady Shani, Octagon Jr. b Abismo Negro Jr., La Hiedra, Villano III Jr. 13:13. Debuts of Abismo Negro Jr. and the third Octagon Jr., with Octagon beating Abismo.
4) Ortiz (LAX) & Santana (LAX) b Laredo Kid & Myzteziz Jr. and Arez & Daga 11:00. Myzteziz Jr. replaced Hijo del Vikingo (still in cast). Earlier, Vikingo appeared to express his disappointment about being unable to wrestle in front of his hometown fans. Averno confronted him to reissue his trios title challenge then attacked Vikingo. Myzteziz & Parka made the save, only for Argenis to attack them with a chair and unmask Myzteziz. Argenis declared only his family has the rights to that mask. Argenis attacked Myzteziz again after this match, giving him a martinete.
5) Averno, Chessman, Texano Jr. b Aerostar, Murder Clown, Niño Hamburguesa 15:21. Texano pinned Murder Clown after a mask pull and a distracted by La Hiedra
6) Drago, Psycho Clown, Taya b Ayako Hamada, Blue Demon Jr., Rey Escorpión 16:41. Psycho Clown pinned Rey Escorpion with a torito after Dr. Wagner Jr. attacked Blue Demon, hitting him in the hand with a hammer.
It was a generally good show. The undercard was easily watchable, the main event wasn’t strong but Wagner did hammer a man’s hand. There was nothing must watch on it and it wasn’t the most crucial show. The OGTs are maybe getting a trios title shot, but that was set up already. Argenis may be feuding with Myzteziz but I don’t believe in Argenis feuds until they actually exist. LAX winning is sort of a build to the tag title match next but it wasn’t really treated that way on screen.
As would be expected, most of the talk about the show was about the “new” characters. The identities weren’t hard to figure out, and the reaction wasn’t much of a surprise. AAA sees these as roles people play, roles that they own and have invested in and want to stay an active part of their world. Calling Abismo Negro “Jr.” is the acknowledgment that it’s a new character, but this is part of the deal with AAA. If the promotion goes on long enough, there will one day be a Drago Jr., or a Lady Shani Jr., or even a Psycho Clown Jr.
Of course it’s not just AAA who does it. It’s the rejection of Mistico (II) as a character that makes wonder if it’s ever going to be a successful idea in today’s environment. AAA did pull off this replacement idea with La Parka Jr. and their success with that choice can be held up as proof it’ll work for others. It does seem more like one exception in a world of forgettable retreads and where hardcore fans are more knowledgeable and more willing to reject replacements, as they have with Mistico. La Parka has worked but it’s on example against a lot more AAA characters who were never as successful as those people who they replaced (like the second Psicosis) or had runs that have been completely forgotten (Ludxor & Venum).
Pentagon Jr. may be another exception of a AAA putting someone in an old gimmick and it very much working out on him. It’s arguable though; not much of what he became had to do with the Pentagon character, except for the martial arts aspect playing into his perfect personality vignette on Lucha Underground. Penta did end up an international star at the end, and that’s why those people who’ve taken on the new characters are making the same decision. I have no idea if was stated or just implied, but Octagon Jr.’s post-match interview about this being the moment to become an international star hints at the bargain made. Taking on the Octagon Jr. gimmick, given the history of that character specifically, is a big load. It’s one a Mexican wrestler might taken on if they were promised a bigger focus in AAA and the same chances to go internationally as Penta & Fenix got.
People are angry about Octagon Jr. coming back but at least they have a strong feeling about it. Bringing back the Bengala gimmick seems a particularly odd pick. Abismo Negro was a big star in AAA, Octagon was a big star and that seems wrapped up in a legal fight. Bengala, with both Ricky Marvin and Super Nova, topped out in the midcard. Though Bengala Nova hasn’t been on Twitch since January, it still feels like the gimmick needed to sit on a closet for a lot longer, because it’ll pigeonhole the new guy in the same spot.
Abismo Negro Jr. attempting to disguise his voice for his interview was fun. A daughter of Abismo Negro wrote on Facebook to make it clear Abismo Negro Jr. isn’t a family member. She isn’t happy about it though she doesn’t believe there’s anything they can do about it. She also says Abismo Negro designed the outfit. AAA’s side has always been that they came up with it.
I have no idea where these changes leave the trios titles. Octagon Jr. did not have a trios title last night, while Golden Magic definitely did in his Impact appearance taped a couple of weeks ago. It is strange Golden Magic was added to the Jinetes del Aire if he wasn’t going to be Golden Magic much longer, and that points to how quickly this was all probably decided. (In other words, AAA probably hadn’t figured out how they were handling the trios titles either last night, even as they were setting up a title match for them.)
The other big change from last night’s show was the music. Entrance music was changed for Psycho Clown, Drago, Los Mercenarios, Laredo Kid. Others, like Blue Demon & Dr. Wagner Jr., did not have their music changed. Widespread music change usually means some big scale music rights issues. AAA has always used real songs, which would not fly in the US but hasn’t seemed to be much of an issue for CMLL or AAA in Mexico. AAA was aware it was a problem outside of Mexico, replacing all music with a generic song on their YouTube channel for the last couple of years. It may have been a situation AAA was going to have to deal with on the US shows, but there wasn’t any urgency to make a change in Puebla. A lot of the new music was personalized, not the generic music they’ve been using on YouTube. That leaves open the possibility this was AAA deciding they wanted to own their own music, just like they owned the gimmick, rather than something forced on it. It’s a hard adjustment in many cases.
A photographer for Milenio was attacked by guards outside the Puebla show. It seems like they prevented him from getting into the building, he recorded it on his camera, and then they attacked him when he refused to delete it. I’d assume the guards work for the venue and not AAA, but it’s still something that gets connected back to AAA.
AAA announced Kenny Omega’s challenge against Fenix for the AAA Mega Championship would take place on 11/17 in Orizaba at Heroes Inmortales. A Daga/Drago match was also mentioned by the announcers though I’m not sure if that was definite.
The New York show was lightly promoted as well, with no real big push for it on Spanish commentary (but it sounded like there was more in English.) La Parka’s column, which seems partly fictional, has him writing it while waiting for his US visa. Cain Velasquez is going on an MMA show of note to promote the show. He seems like the only person who’s been out to promote the show so far.
There are advertisements out for an AAA TV taping on 11/17 in Ciudad Juarez, which matches a date mentioned previously by +LuchaTV. The remaining unconfirmed tapings are 11/09 in Torreon, 11/30 in Veracruz and 12/14 in Ciudad Madero.
A lot of matches were said to be good and nothing great here instead. The main event wasn’t much but the turnout was pretty good.
CMLL’s Arena Puebla show has Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas & Volador Jr. against Dragon Lee, Terrible, and Valiente, a rematch from last week. Volador & Dragon Lee were feuding last week, though plenty of teases to matches have ended up elsewhere in Puebla this year. Atlantis is wrestling, for some reason, with Flyer & Titan against Hechicero, Templario, and Vangellys. The Panther brothers & Kraneo take on Hijo del Villano III, Universo 2000 Jr. and Mascara 2000 (also for some reason.) The Costa Rica luchadors from CWE return for a couple of shows, starting tonight against Drone, Fuego and Guerrero Maya. The opener is an all locals affair. This streams at 9:00 pm on YouTube.
+LuchaTV has an interview with Hijo del Silver King from his debut, where he says he’s going to give people a lot to talk about. That’s proved to be accurate.
AAA , EMW (FRI) 09/27/2019Auditorio de Tijuana, Tijuana, Baja California

2) Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Tito Santana, Último Maldito vs Arandú, Arkángel Divino, TJ Boy, Xtasis
3) Australian Suicide, Steve Pain, Villano III Jr. vs Hijo de Canis Lupus, Kamik-C, Skalibur
4) La Hiedra, Myzteziz Jr., Toxin vs Black Boy, Lady Lee, Mirage
5) Averno, Daga, Súper Fly vs Genio del Aire, Jonathan, Tony Casanova
6) Pagano vs Nicho el Millionario
This is the AAA vs indie themed show, which also seems to be dealing with less big names than usual.
(saving AAA for tomorrow, there’s plenty to read on Twitter already)
CMLL (SAT) 09/07/2019Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Fantasy & Kaligua b Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Universo 2000 tecnicos took 2/3
2) Retro, Robin, Sangre Imperial b Inquisidor, Príncipe Odín Jr., Yago tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Vangellys b Black Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Rey Cometa rudos took 1/3.
4) Fuego b Disturbio [lightning]
5) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto b Kráneo, Soberano Jr., Volcano rudos took 1/3
6) Atlantis, Atlantis Jr., Diamante Azul DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas tecnicos took 2/3, with Casas fouling Azul to set up a match
Diamante Azul vs Negro Casas seems like a bad use of either man.
The Crash (SAT) 09/07/2019Auditorio de Tijuana, Tijuana, Baja California [@jorgeGCRR, The Crash, Zona Ruda]
1) Miranda Alize & Torito Negro b Terror Azteca & Vipress
2) Ricky Martinez b Dan Moloney, El Mesías
3) Flamita b Ricky Shane
4) Mr. Iguana, Súper Astro, Súper Astro Jr. b Arandú, Star Boy, Zarco Super Astro Jr. impressed in a good match
5) Cuatrero & Sansón DQ Trauma I & Trauma II Cuatrero tossed his mask to the Traumas to draw the DQ
6) Travis Banks, Trent Seven, Tyler Bate b Bestia 666, Mecha Wolf, Rey Horus very good match
This show sounds like it was pretty good. Turnout was not.
LA Park, Fatu, Jimmy Havoc, Dragon Lee & Barbaro Cavernario were advertised as appearing on the next The Crash show. That’s the MLW TV taping and the first three are regulars there. Fatu was shortly a regular in The Crash before disappearing randomly. Dragon Lee & Cavernario are CMLL regulars and so it’s a bit unexpected to see them work for something being taped for MLW.
CMLL (SUN) 09/08/2019Arena México [CMLL]
1) Espíritu Negro & Grako b Bengala & Leono rudos took 1/3
2) Dalys, La Comandante, La Seductora b La Guerrera, La Magnifica, Sanely rudas took 2/3
3) Flyer, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa b Disturbio, Olímpico, Universo 2000 Jr. tecnicos took 2/3
4) Dulce Gardenia b Misterioso [lightning] Dulce won via kiss.
5) Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Valiente b Felino, La Bestia Del Ring, Terrible tecnicos took 2/3
6) Euforia, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero b Diamante Azul, Dragón Lee, Místico Flyer replaced Diaamtne Azul. Rudos took 1/3.
The Briscoes b the Bouncers and Rey Bucanero & Hechicero
Rush b Barbaro Cavernario
Jeff Cobb, Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham b Caristico, Stuka and Triton
Matt Taven b Volador Jr. for the ROH Championship
Either Rush/Cavernario or the trios match might have been the best match. Hechicero was far more over (with largely the local lucha fans) than Volador was in his title match, which a problem with the title match.
Sunday in Milwaukee
PJ Black b Flip Gordon & Triton
Caristico, Stuka Jr., Volador Jr. b Okumura, Hechicero, Rey Bucanero
Bandido, Tracy Williams, Mark Haskins b The Briscoes & Barbaro Cavernario
Rush & Jeff Cobb b Matt Taven & Vincent Marseglia
Triton was eating pins every night in his last weekend connected to CMLL. Rey Bucanero isn’t going anywhere but was taking pinfalls a lot – until this night, because Hechicero was the only one on the team who could take a finish from Volador. Hechicero did well and should be back brought back but I don’t know if that’ll happen. The CMLL involvement went generally about what should’ve been expected: fun matches though nothing great (though I haven’t seen all of Milwaukee) and crowds who were mostly unaware of them. There were some lucha libre fans who came out for the CMLL crew in the Chicago show, but it didn’t seem like much and it seemed like even less the other two shows. If the hope was CMLL to be an easy substitute for NJPW, it didn’t seem to meet that goal. If it was more just to continue to strengthen the relationship between the two companies, it seems like that went well.
CMLL (FRI) 09/13/2019Arena México
1) Robin & Súper Astro Jr. vs Akuma & Espanto Jr.
2) Dulce Gardenia, Esfinge, Fuego vs Disturbio, Sagrado, Tiger
3) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis Jr., Niebla Roja vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
4) Carístico, Dragón Lee, Titán vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
5) Volador Jr. vs Negro Casas [lightning]
6) Cavernario, Ciber the Main Man, Diamante Azul vs Big Daddy, Gilbert el Boricua, Último Guerrero
The CMLL Friday lineups seem to have returned to a Saturday afternoon release schedule.
Big Daddy is working no shows this week outside of Friday, which is a vote of no confidence.
First Volador/Casas match in two years. Casas is going to go under ten minutes, best make it a lightning match.
Match four should be good and the third match should be good.
Esfinge is still around. A bunch of people who seemed to quit Arena Coliseo Guadalajara while his father was in charge made a mass run-in on Sunday’s Guadalajara show, so
