AAA InvadingLA update, weekend indie results, Puebla preview

CMLL keeps going

IWRG (SUN) 09/29/2019 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Cheff Benito b Neza Kid
2) Atomic Star, Puma de Oro, Tromba b Dragón Fly, Marado, Mosca
Tromba (replacing Atomic Star) wore Puma de Oro’s extra gear.
3) Alas de Oro, Alas De Plata, Dick Angelo Jr. DQ Ángel Tormenta, Canibal Jr., Death Metal
Death Metal fouled Angel de Oro
4) Herodes Jr. & Hijo de Pirata Morgan b El Hijo del Medico Asesino & Warrior Jr.
The Los Master Juniors have broken up.
5) Ave Rex, Hip Hop Man, Karaoui, Zumbi DQ Black Terry, Dinamic Black, Eragón, Lunatic Extreme
the power was out during this match. Strange DQ.
6) Dragón Bane, Hijo de Canis Lupus, Pirata Morgan b Hijo De Dos Caras, Imposible, Súpernova
7) Demonio Infernal © b Fresero Jr. [IWRG Rey del Ring]
2nd defense. Hair match challenges followed.

That seems like an actual plausible apuesta match. There was no AYM stream for this show. The power went out during the show, which might be related.

Other results

No sign of that Rush press conference yet. He did get stuck in Las Vegas an extra day (and got to hang out with old friends), so perhaps it was delayed.

I previously noted the AAA InvadingLA show had disappeared from the FITE iPPV schedule sometime over the weekend. A source at a different company which deals with conventional PPVs mentioned it is now also off their schedule. The AAA Invading LA PPV has been postponed until 2020 according to the information they received. Tickets are still on sale at this point, and nothing has been publicly announced to that extent. Nothing has been publicly announced positively either; AAA last mentioned the show about a week ago.

There’s still a chance AAA’s just dropped the PPV portion of this concept (and are broadcasting it some other way.) Still, there are other rumors going about this show being postponed or canceled. Most people would be surprised if the show went on, but AAA surprised most people with the New York show actually taking place so maybe they’ll pull a rabbit out of their hat again. I’d suggest not making plans for this show until AAA announces something.

Today’s Puebla show has Caristico, Mistico, and Volador Jr. against Los Guerreros. That reads like a special match, but those haven’t been turning out to be special matches of late. I think people would be less concerned about departures from CMLL if there were still a lot of matches living up to their potential. They may be headed to a Mistico/UG match, which sure feels different than it did last week.

Hechicero, Templario, and Terrible take on Flyer, Stuka, and Titan, which also might be entertaining but doesn’t feel like anything can be counted on. The third and fourth matches are Metalica & Sanely in a lightning match and the micros in a trios. One of those but not both of those is headed to a singles match next week; either Metalica gets another title defense of Microman faces Chamuel.

The locals fueled openers include Policeman in the segunda and Astro & Dark Soul returning in the opener. The show streams at 9 pm on YouTube.

Fugaz replaces Star Black on the Arena Mexico Gran Alternativa tournament on Friday, teaming with Mistico. He takes the place of the injured Star Black, who probably shouldn’t have been listed in the first place. Fugaz has been in Mexico City in 2017 and 2018 and has looked just OK.

The Lucha Brothers are in AAW on 11/30. Again, either they haven’t signed with AEW, or they have a deal different from everyone else who was finishing up before starting with AEW this week.

The promoter of a show on Thursday in Aguascalientes says Dragon Lee is still contracted to appear on the show. That’s good for Dragon Lee, though there’s still a danger CMLL could change that and send someone else.

CMLL

CMLL (SAT) 09/28/2019 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Fantasy & Kaligua b Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Violencia
tecnicos took 2/3
2) Eléctrico, Príncipe Diamante, Súper Astro Jr. b Espanto Jr., Espíritu Negro, Grako
tecnico took 2/3.
3) Hijo del Signo b Oro Jr. [lightning]
Signo won via Destroyer
4) Black Panther, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Disturbio, Olímpico, Sagrado
tecnicos took 1/3
5) Flyer, Kráneo, Stuka Jr. b Felino, Olímpico, Pólvora
Okumura replaced Rey Bucanero. Tencicos took 2/3.
6) Ephesto, Mephisto, Terrible DQ Ángel de Oro, Diamante Azul, Niebla Roja
rudos took 1/3, Mephisto faking a foul in the third.

Mephisto‘s promo (and one mentioned but not posted with Angel de Oro) points to a singles match. Terrible wore a Los Ingobernables jersey and T logo gear. That may have just been whatever happened to be in the gear bag that day.

CMLL (SUN) 09/29/2019 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Arkalis & Sonic b El Coyote & Inquisidor
tecnicos took 2/3
2) Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pierrothito b Angelito, Shockercito, Último Dragóncito
Angelito replaced Fantasy. Rudos took 1/3.
3) Audaz, Flyer, Súper Astro Jr. b Dark Magic, Luciferno, Vangellys
Super Astro Jr. replaced Drone. Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Tiger b Dulce Gardenia [lightning]
win via powerbomb
5) Ephesto, Hechicero, Templario b Ángel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Soberano Jr.
rudos took 1/3, Templario pinning Soberano to set up a title match. Templario unmasked Soberano after the match.
6) Carístico, Diamante Azul, Volador Jr. b Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
tecnicos took 1/3.

Soberano and Templario talk up their match. If CMLL was thinking long term, Templario wins this National Welterweight title match, and then Soberano defeats him later for the vacant World Welterweight Championship. On the other hand, if they were thinking long term, they wouldn’t be having this match on Friday and then again two days later in the same building. (They might hold it off a week for that reason.)

Here’s where I think everything stands with CMLL & the Munoz family, given some time and one ROH show.

  • ROH is going to continue using Rush as planned. They’ll be happy to use Dragon Lee too.
  • NJPW is going to continue using Dragon Lee as planned.
  • The ball is in CMLL’s court on how they want to deal with all of this but no one’s deferring to CMLL here.
  • Rush will hold a press conference on Monday to talk about all of this, but I’m not expecting much more than some dates announced and a press conference. Maybe La Mascara shows up, and they roll out the new name.
  • if CMLL is going to ever talk about this again, it’ll happen on Wednesday on CMLL Informa
  • The next time CMLL & NJPW interact is the junior tag league announcement in mid-October.
    • There’s already a poster out with Dragon Lee & Titan.
    • A FantasticaMania announcement would typically be coming around those time
  • The next time CMLL & ROH have to interact is when Ultimo Guerrero is due in later this year.
  • Dragon Lee will probably be replaced on the Thursday Aguascalientes show since that seems a CMLL booking. Maybe The Crash and MDA shows too, though I’m less sure.
  • If Paco Alonso was still around, none of this is happening like this. Rush says so in his video.
    • Rush also supports Sofia Alonso in the video. My hunch is he might have still worked dates in CMLL as an independent – like Ciber is right now – had CMLL not fired Dragon Lee and himself. Rushing to fire them out of fear they were both going to quit first is not a decision that’s going to hold up well.

Both Bandido & Rush missed Sunday’s Ring of Honor show. Rush’s injury is said to be minor. Bandido’s may not be. He’d been working thru a knee injury since before Battle of Los Angeles. The ROH PPV was about as far as he could go. Bandido is expected to miss some time, though it isn’t sure how much.

The AAA in Los Angeles show has quietly disappeared from FITE TV’s schedule. It could be someone looked at that PPV buy data and decided it wasn’t worth doing again. It could be AAA’s transmitting the show a different method. It could be that the show is off at the moment. Nothing’s been announced but AAA waited until even later to announce matches for New York.

Lucha Libre Vanguardia added CIMA to their show on Thursday in Tulancingo. Which is random as heck, but I guess he might be in North America this week.

leaps of faith

The Munoz Family (or at least part of it) Splits From CMLL

I don’t know how to start this today, so my default is to go over what we know:

  • Dragon Lee, Rush, and La Bestia del Ring are gone from CMLL.
    • Rush & La Bestia announced they were going independent first
    • CMLL announced Rush & Dragon Lee were released for not living up to the standards of the organization.
    • Mistico said he planned on continuing with CMLL in response to Bestia & Rush’s statement. He hasn’t said anything after Dragon Lee was let go.
  • Rush had been planning on leaving CMLL for a while. Appearances under “El Toro Blanco” appeared quickly after his announcement.
    • Rush also won the ROH championship last night and is under contract to them thru 2020.
  • Dragon Lee had not been planning to leave CMLL, at least in the immediate future. He found out he was fired from CMLL from the same Twitter press release as everyone out. He wrote a message of surprise and betrayal.
    • Dragon Lee holds the CMLL Welterweight Championship, though that’s so unimportant to CMLL that it didn’t come up in the hurried release statement.
  • The unhappiness between CMLL and the Munoz family is an outgrowth of much of the CMLL roster being upset about pay reductions in recent months.
    • Dragon Lee also worked BOLA directly against the wishes of CMLL, which more a last straw thing than the entire problem.
    • The Munoz family had been fairly and sometimes notoriously well treated under Paco Alonso’s leadership; the changes have come after Paco Alonso passed away.
  • If CMLL declares Rush & Dragon Lee vetoed and bans their wrestlers from working the same shows as them, it could cause others to just leave CMLL
    • Diamante Azul & Vangellys are believed to be close friends of the Munoz family and would figure to have offers to work alongside Rush on indie shows if they decided to leave CMLL. Diamante Azul would need a new identity. Neither has indicated they’re leaving.
  • It’s unclear where this leaves the CMLL/NJPW relationship
    • Dragon Lee is not signed anywhere but wants to continue working with NJPW. He’s the most the important CMLL wrestler in NJPW.
      • Dragon Lee was scheduled to be part of a CMLL team in the upcoming junior tag league
      • Dragon Lee also certainly figured to wrestle Hiromu Takahashi again.
    • The NJPW/CMLL relationship may have already been less stable than assumed
  • It’s unclear where this leaves the CMLL/ROH relationship
    • Rush is signed with ROH thru 2020 and it still appears to be his priority. He is the most important guy in ROH at the moment.
    • Rush & Dragon Lee are scheduled on tonight’s Ring of Honor show.
    • Ultimo Guerrero had previously been mentioned as coming back to ROH later this year.
  • There will be plenty of interest in signing these guys.
    • AAA has wanted Rush for years. Konnan reached out publicly
    • Dragon Lee has had offers he’s turned down to stay a free agent.
    • These are big enough names that someone in Mexico is going to pitch building a promotion around them (and around LA Park vs Rush)
    • They will all probably need slightly different names, and a slightly different mask, as CMLL owns those in Mexico
      • Neither CMLL nor the Munoz seems to own the names in the US.
      • CMLL owns Los Ingobernables, so La Mascara will have to think of a new name.
      • I’m not sure who owns Los Ingobernables de Japon in Japan, though I suspect NJPW will be fine.

My hunch is Rush is just going to continue working ROH and Mexican indies, Dragon Lee will work NJPW and eventually indies for now, ROH and CMLL might not be so close but NJPW and CMLL will find a way to work together. That’s the most peaceful outcome. But CMLL cutting ties with Rush & Dragon Lee is a signal CMLL thinks they can break ties with anyone, and that maybe include foreign promotions who don’t give into their wishes.

Everyone’s going to move on. Both Dragon Lee & Rush are going to have WWE deals waiting for them the moment they want them and are free to take them. CMLL management goal is simply to put on shows which don’t lose money, so the idea that they’re not going to be as good isn’t a concern to them. CMLL itself is probably going to be worse before it ever gets better.

Aniversario

CMLL ran their biggest show of the year last night, then drowned it out by breaking ties with two of their biggest stars. It’s a strategy. (Maybe wait a couple of days if you ever find yourself in the situation of firing two of your biggest stars.)

I’ve not had a chance to watch this yet. No one had a chance Friday night; the Fite stream never happened. Fite said there was an issue with the transmission from the arena. CMLL never acknowledged the show was airing on FITE. Neither really did ROH, so there must’ve been a communication breakdown somewhere. CMLL did privately stream on YouTube on their own, so it doesn’t seem like a tech issue.

The Micros match sounds like it was the most enjoyed match of the night, with the trios titles match behind it. The cage match have been a bit better than expected, the early trios less than expected.

The women’s match had an atrocious finish. Dalys is as ingobernable as they come right now in CMLL and CMLL obviously knows this. They booked themselves into a corner when Marcela got hurt, putting Dalys in a title match she wasn’t going to win and had no interest in losing. They got a terrible finish where referee Metalico and champion Metalica look bad for a decision Dalys made. CMLL being stuck on the idea of having four matches with something on the line even with Marcela out led them straight into this minefield, and it blew up.

This was a show that existed to justify itself, though. Dalys/Metalica had to happen so they could say they had a fourth big match (and a women’s match.) The cage match ended with Negro Casas and Ultimo Guerrero so they could do promos after the show talking about what a big deal it was to have two legendary rudos facing off, making this completely worthy as Aniversario main event. This was a card and results less about being good but sticking it to the haters. It was cynical. It also seemed to be successful. Photos inside the arena showed a building full or close to it.

Ultimo Guerrero seems to have a fair bit of power. Even if he didn’t, making sure he got his promised Aniversario victory even if it couldn’t be over Ciber, is quite the way to end this year’s event. Decisions are claimed to be made for business reasons but it doesn’t seem that way up and down the card.

CMLL post match promos: Gran Guerrero & Euforia, Dalys, Metalica, Niebla Roja & Angel de Oro, Chamuel, Microman, NGD, Ultimo Guerrero, and Negro Casas.

Press Room promos: Ultimo Guerrero (Box Y Lucha, +LuchaTV), MicroMan (Box Y Lucha, +LuchaTV), Chamuel (Box Y Lucha, +LuchaTV), Negro Casas (Box Y Lucha, +LuchaTV), Metalica (+LuchaTV).

Ring of Honor

Rush beat Matt Taven to win the ROH Heavyweight Championship in a pretty great match. Rush remains undefeated in Ring of Honor and continues to do his best work in that promotion. He’ll be defending the title against Jeff Cobb in Ring of Honor’s upcoming UK tour. It is possible Matt Taven is in his final weekend with the promotion, so there may not be a rematch.

Bandido & Mark Haskins lost a tag team title challenge to the Briscoes in a very good match. Bandido, Haskins, and ally Tracy Williams were destroyed by the returning Bully Ray after the main event, with Flip Gordon helping out a bit. Bully Ray is likely there as an obstacle the Lifeblood group can finally beat in December – ridding ROH of the likes of him was one of the original goals of the group – but the group losing in every big occasion and their top members disappearing from the promotion has turned them into a prelim act with a name.

Dragon Lee was a surprise addition to the ROH TV Title match. Dragon Lee was originally supposed to be on this show, pulled off the show when CMLL “needed” him for the Aniversario show, then ended up just flying in a day early to be there for his brother’s match and was put back on the show. He did not figure in the decision, but they teased a match between himself and champion Shane Taylor.

Bandido faces Jay Lethal in the first round of a #1 contenders tournament tonight in Las Vegas. Dragon Lee & Rush are scheduled to face PCO & Brody King. That match appears to be still on. The show starts at 8 pm CT and will stream on Honor Club

Other News

AAA posted a couple of vignettes which aired on TV but not on the streams. In the first, Lady Maravilla talks trash about Big Mami to Nino Hamburguesa, Maravilla apparently still having Hambuguesa wrapped around her fingers. In the second, Big Mami brings up Nino Hamburguesa being about to make his decision between Maravilla & Mami in Monterrey and asks him who he was going to pick. Hamburguesa tells Mami he picks their friendship but we’re left with the impression it is a lie. Nino Hamburguesa talks about the TripleMania title match coming up in the second, so these are meant to have happened before then. It’s good AAA is doing these, though I wish it didn’t take until the TV episode went up on YouTube to see them. Perhaps there’s stuff out there for other feuds, like the Pagano/LA Park bit, that we just won’t see for a while.

While in San Luis Potosi, Atlantis talked about his career with La Orquesta. Atlantis was asked if he would bet his mask again. He said that he wrestled his last apuesta match. He does think about retirement but doesn’t have a date in mind and leaves open the possibility it could come suddenly and quietly or with a big announcement. Atlantis has wrestled with an obvious injury to either his leg or hip for months that probably should cause him to take a break or even consider retiring, but it doesn’t seem to have affected his willingness to keep on wrestling. It also seems like CMLL won’t force him out at this point, though I’m sure they kept him off the Aniversario show to avoid bringing attention to the situation. Atlantis mentioned he never liked being a rudo but knew it would only be a few years before people wanted to see him as a tecnico again, so he made the best of it.

Other shows go on, even if I’m far behind on typing them

My numbering is off because I didn’t want to show you the tournament matches. My count has it as 13 matches scheduled for this show. Soberano & Templario get one untimed fall, but it might not be too long because of everything else they have to get in. I assume the women’s match exists so they don’t have to ask those men to work the opener, but one of the two trios matches shouldn’t be on this card. Expect some two fall rushed stuff.

Dulce Gardenia is such the overwhelming favorite in this block of the Gran Alterantiva that it is almost worthless to talk about the rest. This blog is almost worthless anyway so: CMLL seems high on Difunto so he may go far, and we’re all kind of waiting for tall Retro to get another gimmick and a push. (I root for comedy nowadays, so the funniest possible outcome is Diamante Azul leaving and Retro becoming the new Diamante Azul.) Star Black broke his leg a week ago, people in CMLL know this because it happened on a CMLL show, and CMLL still is advertising him. CMLL’s release of Dragon Lee & Rush talked about CMLL being focused on discipline and seriousness, and these sort of actions are anything but serious.

como estaz 6×6: dejan

So. That happened!

Rob and I did an emergency podcast talking about Dragon Lee & Rush (and I guess La Bestia del Ring) being released from CMLL, the craziest lucha libre story since Ultimo Guerrero’s car got remodeled. We talk about what happened, why it happened, where it leaves everyone, and what it might mean next. Hint: none of these things are really good for CMLL or people who like CMLL or people who manage the relationships between CMLL and other companies. If you have asked me any question about this story on Twitter, myself or Rob probably answered it here.

Microman vs Chamuel & 7 man cage match tonight, Rush goes for the ROH title

tonight

The CMLL Aniversario show is tonight. The show happening tonight seems like strange news, with people being unaware this is the week. The show is going to do fine because the show always does okay. Still, there’s no anticipation for it approaching past years. I guess one thing you can say is having an unclear result of the main event has not seemed to build extra excitement for the show. The loser is likely one of Negro Casas, Gilbert, and Big Daddy. Nothing feels an absolute outcome as did Volador & Taven losing last year or Niebla Roja losing the year before that. The extra uncertainty doesn’t help if no one cares much about the outcome in the first place.

It should be a good show because CMLL big shows generally are good. The trios title match has lots of good people, Microman & Chamuel have their bit down, and the combination in mixed tag match should work well. The opening match should be much better than usual. The cage match and women’s title match have a chance to be stinkers. There are chances of hope. Some cage matches have been saved with a good one fall to end it. Metalica’s motivated to do better than last time. It’ll be fine.

I’ve got a more extended preview over at Voices of Wrestling. It does descend into me urgently waving red flags about the Dragon Lee & Rush situations for a bit.

CMLL hasn’t acknowledged anything as far as streaming outside of the show not airing live. They haven’t mentioned FITE. Last year, they waited until 5 pm to say anything at all, so I consider it a blessing that we got the “won’t air live” bit early. What we know right now:

  • If you want to watch live, you can sign up to Ring of Honor’s Honor Club service for $10/month. They’ll be streaming Aniversario on their site and thru Fite. They’ll also be putting up an English language version of the show later in the week.
    • ROH is airing their PPV tonight as well, but you do not get access to that without paying extra. You’ll get access to their 09/28 show with Rush & Dragon Lee vs. PCO & Brody King, and at least a couple more for the rest of the month. Honor Club does auto-renew, so you’ll have to cancel it yourself.
  • If you are okay with waiting, Aniversario will likely go up on CMLL’s YouTube channel sometime this weekend, probably early Saturday morning, like every single week.
  • I’m not streaming the show. Maybe someone will if you search the internet.

If you want to watch it live, figure out how to sign up (and then cancel) for Honor Club. If you don’t want to pay for it or deal with ROH, do something else with your Friday night. It’s not ideal, but it’s also not difficult. This main event is also not Atlantis versus Sombra so you’ll be OK even if you don’t figure it out.

I don’t expect a lot of people will end up paying. It’s the same problem as InvadingNY. The standard price of a lucha libre show on the internet is $0.00. No one wants to pay for something that’ll be free later, even before we get into the lineup. I think any decent buys for this would be a bonus. This stream is more about building up ROH’s tape library and their relationship with CMLL than a one night number.

Lucha Central has a preview of Aniversario.

Big Daddy told the press that he would win the cage match because everyone else has a lot of money and he does not, so he’s more hungry for a win. He claimed he’s Mexican now and will be in CMLL to win all the titles. I assume Big Daddy is sticking around after this show, but I’m not sure. Negro Casas detailed his many injuries to Heraldo de Mexico, while also declaring he would continue to wrestle as long as he can still move. Diario Basta has an interview with Cibernetico (most experience with cages matches), Negro Casas (getting out of there ASAP) and Cavernario (issues with Volador.)

ROH has their Death before Dishonor PPV, starting an hour before CMLL. This show is not included in the Honor Club subscription; you have to pay an additional $20 (or sign up for a full year of their premium subscription.)

The big match on the show is Matt Taven defending the ROH World Heavyweight Championship against Rush. Rush is wildly expected to win, with the build all but declaring he’d win here. Matt Taven also may be leaving ROH soon No Mexican has ever won the ROH World Championship. The last Mexican to win the main championship of a significant US promotion I believe is Pentagon Jr. (in both Impact and LU depending on taping vs. airing.) Dragon Lee may be in Las Vegas for the show; he is wrestling on tomorrow’s taping.

Bandido & Mark Haskins also face the Briscoes for the ROH Tag Team Championship. My guess is that’s probably a tag title change, but it’s not close to a sure thing like the Rush one.

Rush & Dragon Lee say they have an announcement on Monday. Rush’s YouTube channel is scheduled to launch Monday. That news is likely all there is to it, but any other career news would fit too.

One more show tonight: AAA & EMW are running in Tijuana with an AAA vs Indies concept show. This event won’t stream but may turn up on YouTube channels later on. Jake Atlas was listed in the opener but he’s ended up in APW (with Fenix & Penta) instead.

3) Hijo Del Picudo & Nigma b Exótico & Pesadilla and Brazo Celestial & Brazo Cibernetico Jr.
Vatos Locos took advantage of the Panther brothers distracting the Brazos.
4) Aero Panther, Dragón Bane, Drolux b Fight Panther, Hijo de Canis Lupus, Moria
Brothers vs Brothers (so Drolux and Moria are brothers?) Money thrown in.
5) Calibus b Blue Panther Jr.Brazo De Oro Jr.
Brazos got involved in the finish, teasing a match with them and the Panthers.
6) Camuflaje & Penta Zero M b Crazy Boy & Crazy King
Penta beat Crazy Boy. Penta asked for a tag title shot with Camuflaje in December.

The Brazos/Panthers stuff seems like a change in directions, but a definite direction. I’m surprised they’re getting another date on Penta. DTU’s next Arena Aficion show on 10/24, including Blue Panther, Cachorro Lagunero (the third son), Arez, Ricky Marvin and Puma King as well as wrestlers from Future of Honor.

The WON said AAA’s conventional PPV buys are now thought to be up to 300-400, which would be an increase of about 500% percent. That doesn’t include PPV purchases due to FITE. 300-400 seems about right for a promotion that didn’t do much advertising in the US.

Shocker returned to his YouTube channel Wednesday to deny he’s in rehab. Shocker disappeared from the public for three months, with El Planchitas saying it was because Shocker was on rehab farm. Shocker promised a longer update explaining where he’s been. Shocker looks thinner and still hasn’t had the jaw surgery to fix the injury from last year. A relative of Shocker had earlier said Shocker’s disappearance was due to being self-conscious about his looks in his current shape.

Guadalajara’s Sports Council handed out awards to luchadors on 09/25, a delayed celebration of national lucha libre day. Arena Coliseo Guadalajara mentioned the awards their wrestlers won:

  • Novatos: Principe Daniel & Johnny Dinamo
  • Revelacion: Fugaz
  • Best Rudo: Difunto
  • Best Tecnico: Vaquero Jr.
  • Best Luchadora: Silueta
  • Best Star Luchador: Star Black
  • Career recognition: Exterminador & Malefico
  • Best Match: Fugaz, Reycko, Explosivo vs Difunto, Frezzer, Guerrero de la Muerte
    • This match looks to be a Sunday match on 09/08, apparently the first show of the post-Magnum era. It didn’t get much of a mention at the time.

El Planchitas says Nacion Lucha Libre is considering bringing Cuervo de Puerto Rico to a show in November. That would be a good press move for Alberto’s company though it has to last that long for it to matter. Planchitas is also on a “the real villains were everyone besides Angel o Demonio” bit.

An article has Heroes of Lucha Libre returning on 12/09. It’s a mistake. This lineup appears to be the 2017 event with a confused author thinking it’s happening this year. This promotion, which you probably forgot before this paragraph started, ran three shows between 2016 and 2017. Their Facebook hasn’t been updated since April.

LuchaWorld has the latest news update.

The University of Arizona will have a course on Mexican Super Heroes, which will include discussion of luchadors.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 09/30/2019 Arena Puebla
1) Astro, Dark Soul, Millenium vs Fuerza Chicana, Joker, Rey Apocalipsis
2) Oro Jr., Súper Astro Jr., Tigre Rojo Jr. vs El Malayo, Perverso, Policeman
3) Metálica vs Sanely [lightning]
4) Átomo, Gallito, Microman vs Chamuel, Guapito, Perico Zakarías
5) Flyer, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Hechicero, Templario, Terrible
6) Carístico, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

The Microman/Chamuel continues to go around the loop. Metalica/Sanely seemed like a title match on Monday. That’s now dependent on Metalica still being champion.

CMLL (TUE) 10/01/2019 Arena México
1) Bengala & Leono vs Apocalipsis & Cholo
2) La Guerrera, La Maligna, Lluvia vs Dalys, La Infernal, Tiffany
3) Drone, Fuego, Pegasso vs Misterioso, Sagrado, Tiger
4) El Audaz vs Virus [lightning]
5) Atlantis, Kráneo, Volcano vs Felino, Hechicero, Rey Bucanero
6) Carístico, Diamante Azul, Soberano Jr. vs Forastero, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Audaz vs Virus is a good idea; the only one they’ve done so far was an untelevised match in Arena Coliseo. Almost nothing else here seems like a good idea.

lucha TV preview for weekend of September 27th, 2019

full size

I started to do this last Wednesday, decided to put it off with the idea I’d do it Thursday night after I got back from BOLA, didn’t get anything done Thursday night. I’m trying to remember where I ended up Thursday night and I’m not entirely sure!

Anyway, this week, CMLL Aniversario will be on HonorClub (also viewable via FITE) as part of ROH’s $10/month subscription. Gonna make this point again tomorrow, but please go in with the knowledge you’re paying $10 specifically and only for the benefit of seeing it live. CMLL will probably put up for free this weekend, like they do with their Friday night shows every other week.

ROH’s show is scheduled to start an hour before, with a pre-show match prior to that. Rush/Taven may happen midway thru the CMLL show.

Nacion Lucha Libre still exists and we all may find out what matches actually happen at the same time (if/whenever HVS uploads them.)

I’d guess the Cain Velasquez trios match goes up on AAA’s YouTube this week and Demon/Wagner next week, but that’s a total guess.
