Triton & Tiger continue to make mask challenges, AEW back in AAA on 07/18

thought this might be the end of Templario

Tecnicos took 2/3, the last when Sanson fouled Volador.

The main event seems like it should’ve set up Sanson/Volador, but no one hung around to make challenges.

Triton took a superkick from Tiger midway thru the first fall and was done for a good 30 seconds. He eventually was able to tag to Esfinge and get to the apron, where the ringside doctor talked to him for a while. Triton did make it back in to finish the fall, didn’t look in good condition, but got better as the match went along. The best guess is Triton hit the back of his head taking a bump. It looked like a concussion, though the doctor at ringside would’ve hopefully checked him for that before letting him back in the match. It still felt like they were taking it a bit safe and Esfinge was working more of the match than originally planned.

If you were an average fan watching Triton & Tiger, they totally agreed to a mask match so it has to be happening. It reminded me of Stuka & Hechicero making mask challenges after their own title match many months ago, which ended up going anywhere. Tiger & Triton don’t seem like they’re doing a bit, they’ll actually do that mask match if CMLL schedules it. There’s probably a spot for it a secondary apuesta match at the Aniversario (where Tiger’s brother Puma King once won a mask match.) However, creating your own feud in CMLL doesn’t usually get rewarded. CMLL could and may already be planning to stick a Kawato match in that spot. There’s plenty of other time to do a Triton/Tiger mask but, as we saw with the “a big show every month” policy lasting one month, CMLL’s capable of just doing nothing as well. I want to see Tiger & Triton get their match and it is hard to believe it’ll happen until they’re seen at a press conference.

Random note: Ring announcer Omar Garcia does the Arena Puebla results on Twitter. He wasn’t there last night – Miguel Reducino on +Lucha mentioned Omar is recovering from surgery. Ivan did the ring announcing last night instead. Someone else did the Twitter. It appeared to be someone taking photos of their screen and even artistically turning them black and white. I see this as a good thing because I was unsure anyone with CMLL had actually seen one of their broadcasts.

Soberano is supposed to wrestle tonight too. Hope he makes it this time. He is scheduled to team with Mistico & Valiente against ND. Audaz teams with Flyer & Cometa against Templario, Hechicero, and Felino. The Panther brothers partner with Fuego against Povlora, Vangellys, and Virus. Super Astro Jr. take on Halcon Suriano Jr. to determine the most likable undersized tecnico in CMLL. Magnus is listed in the second match, but I think Magnus might not be in Mexico right now. A minis match opens the show. Those top matches look better than usual but it is hard to have confidence in Tuesday CMLL shows. It all streams at 7:30 pm.

Guadalajara has Caristico, Dragon Lee and Volador against Los Guerreros. There is someone fan-caming the bigger Guadalajara matches but the feed was down for a third straight week on Saturday night and I’m thinking it’ll just be that way going forward. As always, CMLL is capable of uploading this show themselves if this was an important thing.

For what it’s worth, the CMLL idea appears to be that the Copa Dinastia final was the “big show” for June. The Lyger show on the 19th is meant to be the one for July.

AAA had Blue Demon & Dr. Wagner doing press yesterday to promote their TripleMania match. There didn’t seem to be anything new, it was the usual quotes in fresh video to get media to pay attention again. They’ll probably be back in a couple of weeks when the full TripleMania roll out happens again (but that does mean we should expect it’ll be a while before that lineup comes out; maybe not until after the two TV tapings next week.

Demon’s a rudo on screen but plays it more straight in interviews. That’s probably better for the casual audience. They’re both still doing the “definitely retiring” if they lose bit. AAA’s own upcoming events listing has them in a singles main event two weeks after TripleMania.

Notimex has an interview with Caristico talking about his career, with his Mistico debut coming fifteen years ago this month. Nothing new their either, though he does mention the most matches he’s had in one day was eight, as well as a week with eighteen matches.

Caristico’s match with Cavernario from Pro Wrestling Revolution on Saturday was posted here by Vinnie Massaro.

Dragon Gate posted the first hour of a recent show for free on YouTube, which means there’s a free Jimmy & Draztick Boy match up. It’s even the arena with the stained glass background.

Atlantis Jr. feels he’s stiff in the ring because he’s still too nervous and that’s where he can improve. He feels it is way too soon to talk about a mask match with Hijo del Villano III.

Ex-CMLL luchador Canelo Casas defeated Cueravnaca’s Cachorro hair on Sunday.

Ring of Honor announced Dragon Lee has been added to their 07/20 New York (TV taping) & 07/21 Lowell, Massachusetts (Honor Club) shows. Honestly, I thought Ring of Honor was bringing in Dragon Lee this weekend to give Dalton Castle a win on the PPV Friday night, then be the person who got pinned in the Rush/Lee vs Briscoes tag match the following day to keep the full-timers strong and I would be upset about ROH bringing in one of the best luchadors in the world just to have him lose. Maybe I need to have more hope than that, and that he’s going to be around a little more gives me a little hope.

Additionally, the ROH 08/09 Toronto show will have at least one CMLL luchador who hasn’t appeared the promotion before. That’s the show that was announced as having an authentic CMLL trios match.

Soberano Jr. & La Mascara are on the Baja Stars USA show on July 20th (and maybe 21st.)

There’s an August 20th show in Ciudad Juarez with a ton of CMLL wrestlers., and announced Mr. Niebla & Felino vs Volador Jr. & Mistico match where someone loses their mask or hair. That seems a Felino haircut if it happens as scheduled.

Aeroboy & Taurus make their debut in Crown Point, Indiana’s Black Label Pro on August 24th.

Dalys & Marcela will be in Japan for Fukumenmania 44 on September 15th. We don’t know when the CMLL Aniversario is but it is unlikely the women will be on the show with those two gone if it matches up with that date. They probably know either way.

+LuchaTV has an interview with Negro Casas and this week’s podcast.

LuchaWorld has the latest podcast and Poster-Mania.

Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 06/30/2019 Arena México
1) Fantasy & Kaligua vs Pequeño Violencia & Pierrothito
2) Leono, Príncipe Diamante, Sangre Imperial vs Espíritu Negro, Grako, Sangre Azteca
3) Black Panther, Drone, Star Jr. vs Disturbio, Olímpico, Vangellys
4) El Audaz vs Kawato San [CMLL SL]
vacant title match, finalists from last week
5) Atlantis, Atlantis Jr., Blue Panther vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
6) Cavernario, La Bestia Del Ring, Terrible vs Stuka Jr., Valiente, Volador Jr.

If Kawato is defending his hair later this summer – against Audaz or anyone else – he should win the title here.

They may have intended to have Volador/Euforia at some point but now Volador isn’t booked.

Madriza (SUN) 07/07/2019 Centro de Alto Rendimento The Crash, Ecatepec, Estado de México
1) Blue Win & Guerrero De Fuego vs Black Joe & Príncipe Perseo
2) Gallego, Rocky Santana, Romano García vs Karma I, Karma II, Máscara Oriental
3) Ancla vs DrakoMisteryk
4) Puma King vs Kill Korton
5) Bestia 666 vs Demus
6) Fénix (Indie) vs Freelance
7) Penta vs Arez

Bestia & Demus would definitely be the most violent match on this show except for the history between Arez and Pentagon. Arez should offer to buy some plastic cups and request no beer bottles anywhere in the venue. Fenix vs Freelance is dream match of insane flyers from different generations.

RLL (FRI) 07/05/2019 Gimnasio Municipal Benito Juárez, Cuautitlán, Estado de México
1) Genex & Príncipe Aéreo vs Sicario & Sombra Azteca
2) Lunatik Fly & Sobredosis vs Chris Stone Jr. & Syrus
3) Princesa Azul & Rossy Moreno vs Lady Pink & Tiffany
4) Legendario, Troyano, Último Gladiador vs Epitafio, Leviatham, Tormento
5) Dark Cuervo & Dark Scoria vs Akuma & Demus
6) Aníbal Jr., La Bestia Del Ring, Mr. Jack vs Drako, Ovett, Terremoto
7) Penta 0M & Rey Fénix (LU) vs Dragón Lee & Rush

Main event is a rematch from a Martinez show earlier this year that popped up on +LuchaTV. It was good, not great – the Munoz vs Lucha Brothers matches never work out quite as well as it looks on paper and you need to go in expecting a bad finish.

AAA TV (THU) 07/18/2019 Palenque de la Feria, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes [AAA]
1) Dark Finder, Discovery, Marvel vs Rey Sombra, Triham, Xtrem X
locals match, likely not shown on stream
2) Big Mami, Dinastía, Eclipse vs Eterno, Lady Maravilla, Parka Negra
3) Golden Magic & Lady Shani vs La Hiedra & Villano III Jr.
4) Faby Apache, Niño Hamburguesa, Taya vs Dave The Clown, Keyra, Tessa Blanchard
5) Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Puma King vs Averno, Chessman, Daga
6) Brian Cage & Taurus vs Cody Rhodes & MJF
7) Dr. Wagner Jr., Pentagón Jr., Psycho Clown vs Blue Demon Jr., Killer Kross, Rey Escorpión

This follows the show a week from tomorrow in San Luis Potosi and the following Saturday from Zapopan (Guadalajara).

The Cody Rhodes/Taurus match is happening! Mostly. The local promoter had mentioned Cody would be on this show a while back and he seems to have been more correct than the AAA announcers last weekend.

Wagner’s got Demon, Escorpion wants Psycho and Kross called Pentagon the last time he did a promo, so I’m sure that’s the idea there. Not sure if it’ll make it to TripleMania.

Texano & Vikingo get a TV taping off. Nino Hamburguesa being split from Mami & Maravilla is not great and suggests that two different matches will be playing into that storyline. I guess you could have Dinastia or Eclipse switch places but that doesn’t seem to work well with Dave the Clown on the other side.

There are no other known TV tapings between this show and TripleMania. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be the last one, we just don’t know of any others. It does mean it is probable Fenix is going to a full AAA year without having defended his title on an AAA show.
