Homenaje a Dos Leyendas tonight, TV ratings, Bandido/Rush in ROH, Park/Adonis in Warrior

Tonight is Homenaje a Dos Leyendas, a decent show B-level major card that’s the second biggest show of CMLL’s year because CMLL believes they can get away with it. Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja face Terrible & La Besita del Ring, where the question is not as much the outcome but if enough people support the Chavez brothers to make them come off as bigger stars going forward. That’s the point to this, as much as there is to any of it.

I wrote a longer preview for Voices of Wrestling. For you, I’ll say the show might have some good matches – it is nearly impossible for the semi-main to be anything but good – but I sure don’t want to support a promotion who is so doesn’t care. I’ve been hoping for this show not to be an iPPV because paying for this tag team main event seems wrong. They’re smart enough to find a way to make the match interesting, but CMLL has enough talent people that it should be obvious that the second biggest main event of the year is going to be interesting, not a slight of hand of keeping one of the participants to the side.

Guerreros versus Caristico, Dragon Lee and Volador should be good, though a title change would mean nothing. It will be nice to see Negro Casas wrestle again, if he’s actually wrestling. (It is tough to trust CMLL, which is another obvious problem here.) The Micros were great when I saw them Tijuana, having added a few spots they weren’t doing last time on a stream, and they should be great here again. This is a better card than most of what CMLL has been rolling out, but that bar isn’t that high and they’re not pushing it much higher.

Homenaje a Dos Leyendas starts at 8:30 pm locally, which is one hour later than usual if you changed your clocks this past weekend. Normally, this is where I would tell you how to watch the CMLL show. I’m not confident I know how to watch the CMLL show. The show is usually streamed on Marca. There is no link to the show on Facebook yet, though sometimes it is not posted until as late as a few minutes before the show. Marca sometimes posts a preview to hype their stream. That post doesn’t exist this week. There is no mention of the show on the internet.tv iPPV site. CMLL has not mentioned anything besides the show being available to watch in the US. I think the most likely outcome is still the show being streamed on Marca & Facebook (and then me also streaming it on YouTube.) CMLL often just doesn’t mention negative things and that means anything is possible with this show, including the show not being streamed at all and being held off to air on Televisa tomorrow instead. This is not really an important show to watch; you might just be better letting this sort itself out tonight and catching up tomorrow.

Lucha Central has a preview of the show.

Reporte Indigo talks to Terrible about his eye injury.

Blue Demon’s family would like the government to set up a statue in his honor.

It sounds like we won’t have Okumura in matches to deal with for a while. He gave an interview about his appendix surgery to Japanese site Miruhon, saying he had stomach pain back into February and the appendicitis was probably misdiagnosed at least once before being caught. He also had an infection post surgery. He has not returned to training yet and does not think he’ll be wrestling again until June. Okumura is off the Costa Rica Wrestling Embassay show next week. (They say a CMLL wrestler will be replacing him.) Okumura also mentions a mid-April US trip is off for him; I’m not sure if that is an ROH taping (see below) or an appearance in the Crockett Cup.

Lucha Central tracked down ratings for last week’s lucha libre shows in Mexico:

  • AAA on Azteca7 drew a 4.4 rating (2.4 million viewers)
  • AAA on Azteca7 drew a 2.4 rating (4.4 million viewers)
  • AAA on Azteca+ drew a 1.3 rating
  • CMLL on Televisa9 drew a 1.3 rating (1.2 million viewers)

If you read the Facebook/Twitter comments, the AAA fans would like their show back on Saturday afternoon like CMLL show currently is but far more people are watching AAA in their current time slot. It may be more a difference between the two promotions than the times, but the CMLL show isn’t off to a special start.

Ring of Honor tonight has the Anniversary PPV from Las Vegas with Rush versus Bandido. It’ll air on their stream, though for $35 USD or a subscription to their highest tier. I’m not sure how they’re getting out of that. I think Bandido is the guy to go with but I wouldn’t want to beat Rush at this point either. ROH made an intriguing match by making a match they probably shouldn’t have made.

Ring of Honor mentioned CMLL wrestlers will be on their April 13th TV taping (Pittsburgh) and April 14th live event in Columbus.

Warrior Wrestling is tonight in suburban Chicago with Sam Adonis vs LA Park. That show is streaming on Highspots Wrestling Network.

Chilanga Mask will have their 6th Anniversary show on 05/19 in Coliseo Coacalco. They have not run a show since last year’s 5th Anniversary show.

The Lucha Fiesta show headlined by El Hijo del Santo is said to have drawn 700 fans. The promoter was putting on the show because that’s the show they wanted to do it more than as a business idea, but that’s a kind of statement about the level interest in a random one-off lucha show in Japan at the moment. Santo heads to London next month and then who knows if/when we’ll see him again.

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report.

Lector24 interviews Mr. Electro. The apparent end of the AAA/Elite bit seems to have ended his run in AAA again, though he’s open to working more dates for them.

The Gladiatores has an interview with Blue Panther at his acupuncture office.

Puma King attempts to go snowboarding in his latest video.

Casandro’s film airs in El Paso today.
