CMLL (MON) 03/11/2019 Arena Puebla [CMLL, Lucha Central]
1) Astro & Meyer b Ares & Sombra Diabólika
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Arkalis, Halcón Suriano Jr., Oro Jr. b Black Tiger, Espíritu Maligno, Policeman
Tecnicos took 1/3 despite Oro Jr. picking up an injury.
3) Fuego, King Jaguar, Pegasso b Disturbio, El Perverso, Virus
Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) La Bestia Del Ring, Templario, Terrible b Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Niebla Roja
Rudos took 1/3, only losing the second by DQ, and Angel de Oro needing help after taking Bestia del Ring’s cradle piledriver.
5) Ephesto, Mephisto, Volador Jr. b Cavernario, Dragón Lee, Místico[Relevos Increíbles]
Volador worked as a rudo, and took 1/3 cleanly.
This show didn’t look any better than usual. Volador seemed to enjoy being a rudo in the main event, but mostly in the way of stalling.
CMLL’s Tuesday lineup looked like one of the worst shows they’ve put out when it was originally announced last week. Now it looks like it’s going to be at least a little memorable. Shocker has disappeared from CMLL lineups so CMLL has finally decided to call back in the man who unmasked him many years ago, Mr. Niebla.
The leader of Peste Negra last wrestled in Arena Mexico in late August last year. He showed up for a match in no condition to wrestle and has a long public history with alcoholism. Niebla was taken off CMLL after, either because clips of the latest incident went viral, or perhaps a change in policy following Drone’s own escapades earlier that year. Mr. Niebla’s been working indies fairly frequently since – he ended up in more 2018 matches than he did in 2017 – and consistently saying CMLL had not given him any indication of if/when he might be brought back. Niebla’s previous suspensions have been in the 15-90 day range. This was twice as long and might still be going if CMLL felt they had other options.
After past suspensions, Mr. Niebla and people have around him have talked about him changed and getting better, and yet he would end up making the same mistakes and being suspended over again. There hasn’t been much talk of a change this time around. Maybe that’s for the best.
Mr. Niebla’s return was announced yesterday. The preview CMLL sent out late yesterday already has a Mistico quote about how excited he is to face Niebla. He hopes they can have a singles match. There’s also some from Mr. Niebla, saying he’d like to form a new Pesta Negra to give the fans new faces in the group.
The rest of the card is not as interesting, grab bags of matches all over the place. Atlantis, Kraneo and Stuka face Felino, Hechicero and Kawato. Black Panther & Universo 2000 Jr. is the lightning. A very usual match sees Misterioso, Sagrado & Tiger against Guerrero Maya, Pegasso and Rey Cometa. Akuma, Espanto Jr. & NItro against Magnus, Retro & Star Jr. doesn’t sound good, but Bengala & Leono versus Apocalipsis & Cholo seems even worse.
The CMLL Guadalajara main event was supposed to be Los Ingobernables versus Caristico, Valiente, and Volador, only the arena announced Rush is off (“fuerza mayor” aka “we’re not actually giving a reason”) and Cavernario replaces him. Star Black replaces Fuego in the undercard.
The 03/19 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Homenaje a Dos Leyendas show does not have a lineup but does have a poster with Caristico in the middle. Microman is on it, so they’re likely getting a micros match as well.
This week’s Being the Elite, the YouTube show produced by the Young Bucks, ended with the brothers preparing for an international trip. They had their gear, they had their passports, they hinted they’d have their first match since finishing up in New Japan, and they did not reveal where they were going. Their Bucks last wrestling appearance was attacking the Lucha Brothers, then telling Fenix & Penta that they knew their schedule and would see them again.
The Lucha Brothers are in Puebla this weekend for Rey de Reyes. Cody will be there too, to talk about the AEW deal. I guess the Young Bucks could be there as well – it would certainly explain why AAA decided to have Fenix & Penta challenge for the tag team titles instead of Fenix finally defending his title – but it would also be really weird. There’s definitely fans of the Young Bucks and the entire Elite group in Mexico, but I’m not sure a casual lucha fan going to see Rey de Reyes in Puebla knows who they are, and this appears to be happening in a way where these guys aren’t going to be advertised – much less explained – before-hand. It would be a lot bigger help for the AEW side than the AAA one, who would be handing over the main event of one of their biggest shows of the year to another promotion. On the other hand, that does sound like something AAA would do. On the other, other hand, the Young Bucks probably going to Japan or something and now AAA is just messing with me (which is fun.)
AAA has a Twitch special Wednesday at 5 pm. They haven’t really done much non-live show Twitch broadcasting in 2019 and this could be bringing back one of those featuring.
Penta & Fenix are with AAA filming something today. Maybe one of those Yo Soy videos?
Lady Shani successfully defended the Reina de Reinas in Xalapa.
WrestleCon Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow on 04/04 (Hilton Midtown)
That’s a pretty good start. The last high profile match between the dragon and the caveman was great, even with one of the falls ending wrong.
I was hoping that Cavernario showing up here meant he’s going to be working a lot of WrestleMania weekend shows. What I’ve since heard is Cavernario is currently booked for Arena Mexico the next day and isn’t returning, so this is probably the only match he’s working in New York that weekend.

If Gato de Ecatepec versus Demus is bigger than Okada versus Omega, I will have to search it out. Are you being serious, or just trolling?
