CMLL (TUE) 03/05/2019 Arena México [CMLL, Lucha Central]
1) Angelito & Shockercito b Mercurio & Pequeño Violencia
tecnicos took 1/3
2) Metálica, Reyna Isis, Tiffany b Avispa Dorada, La Jarochita, Mystique
Rudas took 2/3.
3) Black Panther, El Audaz, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Metálico, Pólvora, Universo 2000 Jr.
Okumura missed the match due to emergency appendix surgery this weekend. The CMLL preview listed Hijo del Signo in his spot but it ended up being Metalico. Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Blue Panther b Luciferno [lightning]
9:20. Luciferno rushed in the ring to stop a barrage of Panther topes and was caught in the armbar.
5) Atlantis, Flyer, Stuka Jr. b Felino, Hechicero, Templario
Tecnicos took 2/3.
6) Ephesto, Mephisto, Terrible b Místico, Soberano Jr., Titán
Terrible replaced Negro Casas, still out after surgery despite CMLL advertising him for this card. Rudos took 2/3.
The show sounds like it was alright, with Blue Panther doing weird Blue Panther things in his lightning match. Luciferno wants a mask match with Blue Panther or his sons.
Negro Casas was still being promoted for this show as recently as that afternoon. CMLL typically makes medical decisions on Mondays, so it does not make a lot of sense that Casas will still be advertised a day later if they had ruled him out. Maybe they left it up to him. Casas’ next scheduled match is Sunday.
CMLL (TUE) 03/05/2019 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [CMLL]
1) El Alteño, Magnum, Rielero b Gemelo Pantera I, Gemelo Pantera II, Rey Trueno
2) Guerrero de la Muerte, La Muerte, Sagrado b Pantera Blanca Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa
La Muerte replaced Misterioso. Rudo stook 1/3.
3) Ángel de Oro, Esfinge, Niebla Roja b Difunto, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys
Difunto replaced Shocker. Tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Carístico, Kráneo, Valiente b Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
tecnicos took 1/3.
5) Volador Jr. © b Bárbaro Cavernario [NWA WELTER]
Volador took falls 2/3 to keep the title. 2nd defense.
Cavernario has never beaten Volador by pinfall in a three fall match. Volador has won seven times, and Cavernario has won twice by DQ to set up title matches.
“La Muerte” has never wrestled in Guadalajara before, seems like someone from the gym pulled in for last minute sub when they needed an additional body.
Dragon Lee’s trip to NJPW has ended with issuing a challenge to Taiji Ishimori the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. That match appears to be taking place on April 6th at the NJPW/ROH show in MSG. It means Dragon Lee is the first/only full time CMLL wrestler to be part of that show, though Rush may eventually join him. No sign of Hiromu Takahashi on that NJPW show, though Dragon Lee continued to bring him up in interviews.
AAA announced a new taping for May. The upcoming schedule currently is
- 03/16 Puebla (lineup)
- 04/05 Tijuana
- 05/05 Hermosillo – new
- 05/25 Queretaro
This is the first taping in Sonora this year, after going years without running the state. The last taping in Hermosillo appears to be June of 2001, which we don’t have the full lineup from. That was the first of a two taping weekend (Nogales) and this may be a two taping weekend as well with a Friday night show on 05/03.
There’s got to be more tapings in April, though it would be funnier if the only time AAA ran that month was the weekend the entire wrestling world was paying attention to other things. No matches yet and Taya is the only unusual name on this poster.
One of the questions from the AEW announcements is how Sonny Kiss got out of his contract on Lucha Underground (as XO Licious) to sign with a new group. An interview with WrestlingInc reveals Kiss did not; there’s an agreement between AEW & Lucha Underground to allow Kiss to work both promotions. Or at least, work the one that has firm plans to run shows. LU officials have previously said that they’d let anyone work non-WWE TV shows as long as they were still available to come back for LU taping and this seems consistent with that.
There’s a Kickstarter to fund a documentary on women’s wrestling and Monterrey’s LLF. It’s an all or nothing funding deal, they’re at $385 and need to get to $1816 by March 25th.
Dave the Clown & Murder Clown are headed to Costa Rica this weekend.
MexaWrestling in Arena San Juan on 04/06 (MextlerCon):
- Vanilla Vargas vs Lady Flammer in their MexaWrestling Diva Championship tournament
- Mike, Leo, Teelo vs Lunatik Fly, Lunatik Xtreme, Toto – new
Aerostar has been announced for Progress Wrestling’s Super Strong Style 16 in May.
