5) Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro, Imposible, Ovett, Toscano, Último Gladiador b Dowki, Hip Hop Man, Karaoui, Mosca (Argentina), Musashi, Zumbi [Copa Higher Power] Imposible got the win, beating Karaoui & Hip Hop Man for the win.
6) Aramis L Freelance, Alas de Acero [seconds hair] Referees were assigned as seconds by blind draw, with Adonis Salazar appearing as the referee for this match. Capu was with Freelance, Chiquillin with Alas de Acero, Reyes Rosas with Aramis. Freelance won first, then Alas de Acero beat Aramis to cose Reyes Rosas hair.
7) Capo del Norte, Capo del Sur, Máscara Año 2000 Jr. DQ Rokambole Jr., Villano IV, Villano V Jr. Toscano got involved to attack Mascara 2000 Jr. (upset about Consejo breaking up & wants a hair match?!?), only that annoyed the Villanos since they were DQed in the process.
Toscano has held a grudge since about 2013. I mean, I personally appreciate holding grudges for half a decade but I wouldn’t look for IWRG to settle them. I would look to IWRG hoping to get a hair payday if they’re giving them to referees off two week builds.
CMLL doesn’t run many 2v2 matches outside of openers, so it’s notable tonight’s Arena Puebla show has Rush & Terrible versus Diamante Azul & Volador Junior. This would make sense if Rush & Terrible were still tag team champions, or Diamante Azul was teaming with fellow new champion Valiente instead of Volador. Valiente is booked, but in the semi-main instead. Maybe they’re setting up another title match, possibly they’re killing time for another week.
Stigma, Titan, and Triton take on Kawato, Okumura, and Tiger in the tercera, the best chance for a good match on this show. (The main event sounds possibly good but Rush’s efforts in Puebla have not been strong.) Cavernario, Felino and Rey Bucanero take on Atlantis, Soberano, and Valiente in the semi-main. The first two matches heavy on locals and Espanto. Puebla, like most of CMLL, could use some new and interesting rudos.
The Puebla show will air at 9 pm on CMLL’s YouTube channel.
There are Mexican wrestlers popping up on other TV shows this weekend. Guerrero Maya & Stuka challenging for the ROH tag team titles aired this weekend on ROH TV and will stream on Fite.TV tonight. Global Wrestling Network (Impact) has an episode of Xplosion with Dragon Bane, Starfire, and Aramis versus Arez, Latigo and Chik Tormenta. That was taped way back on the Mexico City taping and I had given up on it every airing. They have another trios match in the can, which might air next week. Xplosion episodes were free previously, are asking to register when trying to watch them today, but they have a 30 days free trial anyway.
KDNA (Monterrey) says their 12/30 show will be taped for TV. They’ve said previous shows will be taped for TV which turned out to be, so maybe just put that one in pencil. The firm upcoming shows (next Saturday in Xalapa, Christmas in Cuautitlan) would bring AAA to 32 regular tapings this year, plus the eight additional Lucha Capital shows. Last year had 28 tapings.
CMLL (SAT) 12/08/2018Arena Coliseo
1) Acero & Aéreo vs Mercurio & Pequeño Olímpico
2) Magnus, Oro Jr., Starman vs Apocalipsis, Cholo, Príncipe Odín Jr.
3) Astral, Blue Panther Jr., Drone vs Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Tiger
4) Star Jr. vs Sangre Azteca [lightning]
5) Blue Panther, Kráneo, Volcano vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
6) Ángel de Oro, Carístico, Niebla Roja vs Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
Either Starman has returned or he’s catching up with Raziel for times CMLL lists him when he’s not actually going to wrestle.
La Parka, Laredo Kid, Myzteziz Jr. beat Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly (5:30, DQ Averno for mask pull, ok, 02:01:31)
Rey Escorpión & Texano Jr. beat Joe Lider & Pagano and Cíclope & Miedo Extremoto keep the AAA World Tag Team Championship in a hardcore rules match (17:28, Texano & Escorpión two man powerbomb Pagano, good, 02:11:30)
Blue Demon & Killer Kross beat Dr. Wagner Jr. & Psycho Clown (10:13, Kross & Demon pin Wagner, below average, 03:15:46)
What happened:
Scarlett is with Kross, as on Lucha Capital, and it seems to be permanent thing going forward. Scarlett interfered in the match, which strangely caused Vampiro to come out to grab her. Before Vampiro could chokeslam the woman, Kross hit Vampiro in the back. Vampiro ended up leaving grabbing his neck. Kross snuck in a foul on Psycho and suplexed him, and Demon beat Wagner clean with the Devil’s Wings. Or that was the plan, except Tirantes held up at two for reasons no one really understood. He might have had a problem with Kross helping pin Wagner, but then he let Demon & Wagner pin him at the same time anyway. The show ended with the rudos unmasking Psycho Clown and celebrating.
The Fenix/Cage title match didn’t happen. Cage sent in a video (translated by Melissa) saying he’d been injured a few days ago and was not able to wrestle. Fenix appeared in front of the live crowd to talk about his injury. He got some boos for the match not happening, which upset him. Laredo Kid interrupted, put over Fenix for being professional enough to show up anyway, and asked if he was still getting a title shot. Fenix assured him that Laredo was first on his list for challenges when he was healthy again.
Both the Mercenarios & Macizos beat up Pagano & Lider after the match, so it does not appear the Ciclope & Miedo Extremo vs Pagano & Joe Lider program is done.
In an in-ring bit early in the night, La Parka brought on Angelikal, praised him, and unveiled gear for him for a new character: Myzteziz Junior. (Myzteiz was the identity Carístico used in AAA.) Angelikal wrestled under the new identity in the title match, which his team won. Parka congratulated the winners after the match, saying he knew Myzteziz would bring them luck. The OGTs interrupted, insulted Parka, and got into a fight with the técnicos. They took out Hijo del Vikingo with a shoulder injury in the process. Parka challenged OGT to an immediate match, which ended with Averno unmasking Parka (after first only getting the top of his mask) and later taking the other two masks.
A series of vignettes aired with Brazo de Platino trying to convince Máximo and La Mascara to reunite, with Mascara insisting he wasn’t a Brazo but a Mercenario. (These had been airing on Space the last couple of weeks in real time but had not yet aired on Twitch.) Brazo de Platino brought out La Mascara to again plead with him. Mascara faked agreeing and attacked him. This came across like a role Super Porky was intended to play for sympathy but is not physically able to at this point.
Kerya was scheduled for the title match but did not appear, because she was trying out for WWE in Chile. Hijo del Tirantes helped Scarlett out of a Faby tapatia to break up a spot where everyone was in a hold. Scarlett walked out of the match a moment later, confusing everyone. Tirantes and Faby went back to feuding, which led to Shani beating Faby when she was distracted. Faby seemed to be a tecnica in this match. Outside of Scarlett being a heel, it was tough to tell what role anyone was supposed to be in.
The opener was an added dark match, with Último Maldito & Arkangel Divino coming home to work with other Aguascalientes wrestlers.
Thoughts:
The main event was the usual not much Blue Demon/Dr. Wagner main event. Some weak brawling, a run-in to push the never happening Vampiro/Kross match, and a really poor looking finish. Not great night for referees being able to count to three. Demon slapping hands with all the fans and then working rudo in the match didn’t work, but I’m not sure anything he’s going to do will work. It’s just cold.
Drago/Fantasma was a slow-paced match feeling like it might building to something, but taking forever to get there. They never totally found that extra gear though it did get better as they went along. Drago bleeding a lot was a strong visual that didn’t play equally strong into the match. They did build drama with the near falls but the typically quiet Aguascalientes crowd didn’t seem that into it. Fantasma’s offense doesn’t look as sharp as it once did, with the big tope never coming off strong. Drago’s escape out of the Thrill of the Hunter came off well, but Copetes hesitating on the winning three count hurt the drama of the moment. There already wasn’t as much drama in that moment as there should’ve been.
This was the best of three Macizos/Pagano/Lider matches so far. It was a more balanced match between three teams and escalating well, which was important given how long it went. The last couple minutes were clunky to get Pagano to finish the match, but he wasn’t as much a problem as in the other ones with more people to surround them. Los Macizos looked sharp thru the match and took a lot of punishment; they’re still clearly here just to give Pagano & Lider something to wrestle, but they’re coming off as the better team. Rey Escorpión was relatively up for the extreme spots in the match and pulled off a cool powerbomb catch for the finish. Texano did not seem to be as much interested in killing his opponents got thru it fine. There are some obvious not great spots, both in ideas and execution (that table spot near the end didn’t come close to looking like a Canadian Destroyer), but this was good for what it was.
The title switch was the best Poder del Norte/Laredo squad match yet. Other matches may have a few more shocking moves at the very top end, but this one had plenty close while building to a bigger end game. This seemed like it would be a title change going in and “Myzteziz Jr.” clinched it before it started, yet they were still able to put together a moment where it looked like Poder del Norte might win. They wrestled fast and they kept it interesting. The técnicos went over very strong in the end. Poder del Norte still looked good enough, here and in general, that they’re still useful as contenders down the line. The follow up on trios match really wasn’t much, with Myzteziz getting a few spots and Laredo doing much less. It was a chance for Parka to do his thing, which isn’t much of a thing to see and didn’t have a purpose here.
This tapings version of the Máximo/Mascara match was slightly better than normal only because Parka Negra & Taurus. They looked super, especially early in the match, and one or the other should be used as a challenger for Drago right away. There isn’t much else to say about the rest of the action. The crowd didn’t care about the feud any more after the dramatic intervention of Brazo de Platino, but then this crowd didn’t care about a whole lot.
The women’s match was a big disappointment. I’m not sure if there was drama putting together the match, but it came off like a match no one was really happy with, especially the people who had to watch it. The match made no sense except if they decided Shani had to beat Faby for the title but also that Faby wasn’t going to lose clean. Apache working as a tecnica and feuding with Tirantes made no sense given months of storylines except to set up for that finish. It also made the end of the match a mess, and it wasn’t a match that was going along that great. The match got worse once Scarlet left. It wasn’t that she was great (she was fine), but the weirdness of the match was exposed to less people involved in it. It just kind of meandering to a lame finish with none of the impact or fun of the recent matches. If AAA had to do the finish this way to tie up the Faby/Shani feud and are moving onto anything else, then maybe it was a necessary evil (though one that should’ve come months ago.) It’s even worse if this just the start of more with them.
The dark match was an attempt to repeat similar previous matches but didn’t reach those heights. The Tijuana guys match here last on the previous Aguascalientes got last time but was an easier superior match. Everyone was willing to take big bumps, but the offense and layout made it feel too indie match. They did everyone does a Canadian Destroyer spot, but slower and less well than previous ones, and it doesn’t help to do direct comparisons when it is going to be something worse. Último Maldito & Arkangel Divino did their usual sequence, though ti it felt a bit of a walkthru. Maldito’s dive looked cool, but it also required the match to stop for a minute while he searched for a suitable chair. The solution there can’t be “find another chair” when “do a different dive is a possibility.” They got money thrown in, but they really need encouragement to try something different.
TJ Sports thought the main event was a title match. The Crash results don’t mention the title. There were no titles there, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anythinig. I think they may have been talked about stripping the titles for a fourth straight time.
Johnny Mundo, Taya, Ultimo Dragon, and Los Traumas were announced for their January show. This would be the Mundos first appearance with the promotion, something that seemed like it might have happened when everyone else who had left AAA was showing up there.

A scheduled Fenix vs Cage match for the AAA megachampionship did not take place. Fenix was hurt in his last CMLL appearance and Cage picked up an injury a couple days before the show. Cage sent in a video to apologize. Fenix appeared to apologize. Laredo Kid interrupted to ask if he would still get a title match, and Fenix said Laredo was on top of his list once he came back.
I’m hurrying to get done because of bad scheduling by me and this show going long. The added opening match was fine but didn’t help my cause. If you’re in a hurry, I’d say the trios title match is the one to watch, with the extreme match and the Drago/Fantasma match worth to watch The women’s match was a disappointement and both the Mascara/Maximo and main event match were about what you’d think.
Part of the crowd booed Fenix when he was doing his speech – I think that’s more on AAA for not being upfront about the match being canceled rather than Fenix, but Fenix was obviously upset. At least he got to keep the title. Still curious about what they would’ve done had Cage been healthy. The Laredo bit suggests Fenix wasn’t going to lose the title here.
This week’s Lucha Capital will have Psycho Clown, Texano Jr., Taya, La Hiedra, Australian Suicide, Laredo Kid, Taurus, and Murder Clown. Those are the eight who haven’t had a second-round match yet (or an official one in Murder Clown’s case), so no surprises.
Hades says she’ll be wrestling as Hahastary on the indies. Given how little she’s been on TV since become Hades, that probably makes no difference.
Add Vanilla Vargas to the list of familiar next from Mexico trying out for WWE in Chile. The bigger picture here idea here is this is happening in Chile, and not the much closer trip to Mexico for the WWE people. If there is a Latin America WWE Performance Center or NXT, it doesn’t look like it’ll be based in Mexico. And these people are more likely headed to that facility than to Orlando.
The IWRG Trios championship surprisingly changed hands in Puebla on Saturday night. Prayer, Multifacetico and former Arena Puebla regular Centella de Oro won the titles from Dinastia Navarro. IWRG titles rarely change hands outside of Arena Naucalpan. These Trios titles did so in 2013, which seemed liked the Piratas working their own program maybe without authorization. Dinastia Navarro had been champions for over two years but hadn’t defended the titles since 2016. Part of that has to be Negro Navarro’s health issues, but he’s wrestling now and still hasn’t been booked on an IWRG card since July 2017. Prayer & (formerly Mini) Multifacetico have looked good on Lucha Memes shows and Centella de Oro was great back in the late 2000s/early 2010s when we’d get to see Puebla occasionally.
Puma King is 1-2 in the DDT D-Oh Gran Prix so far, though he did pin the champion (former Mexican indie wrestler Daisuke Sasaki) and could get a title match. I haven’t seen the matches but it sounds like they’ve been good.
The good matches were generally a bit better than you’d expect. The bad matches were as bad as you may have feared. The Guerreros title defense is worth seeking out and the NGD/Ingoerbanbles match is good if you have time.
A plaque was added to Arena Mexico recognize lucha libre being declared part of the culture of Mexico City. And to honor the people who got that declaration, from the way it was presented.
Visiting Record on his post-Exatlon media tour, Dragon Lee explained his ear problems were actually a pre-existing wrestling injury. He says he had a burst eardrum from a shot, didn’t think it was serious and he was having it treated. He knew he shouldn’t be going in the water with it, wanted to tough it out anyway and didn’t complain for a while, but it started to hurt so much that he got scared and they took him out of the competition. Dragon Lee says lucha libre is followed by a lot of people, but he was surprised about how he’s known everywhere now. He thinks it helped that they got see him not just as a luchador but also as a person.
AAA has Guerra de Titanes tomorrow night. The listed time is 6 pm, which means it’ll probably be around 6:30 pm. I wasn’t really planning on writing a preview, but the card was really interesting to me when I started thinking about it and wrote something for Voices of Wrestling. The Fenix title mystery is classic AAA weirdness, and there are some good matches on the undercard. There’s also a general but rare in AAA sense of an actual direction, so maybe it will be a meaningful shw.
Keyra won’t be in Aguascalientes. Keyra, Lady Maravilla, Lolita, and Dragon Bane are among those in Chile for a WWE tryout. She posted a photo of the women, Lucha Memes mentioned Dragon Bane was with them and Dragon Bane also mentioned it on Facebook. It’s a different group of people. WWE’s generally only brought in Mexican talent who’ve also worked outside of Mexico. That’s not been the case always; WWE scouted Bandido at a Lucha Memes show before he’d was a name outside of Mexico. Keyra, Lolita and Dragon Bane have worked Lucha Memes shows this year. I don’t think Maravilla did, though she has been on other PALL shows. Lolita is a bit of a stretch as a WWE prospect in 2018, but she’s certainly good enough to get a chance in a tryout. Keyra, Maravilla and Dragon Bane are no-brainer picks as young luchadors in Mexico who would do well outside of Mexico too, and it’s more of a question of WWE wanting to pull that fruit off the tree now or wait longer to see what they develop into.
La Parka’s column mentions the marketing director of Gamesa – the people behind the Emperador cookies and last week’s sponsored show – was a big fan of Mascarita Sagrada growing up. That perhaps is a reason why Mascarita Sagrada got the spot in a commercial and is wrestling so much in AAA now.
The Crash is running tonight in Tijuana. The new main event is Besta & Mecha vs Cuatrero & Sanson for the vacant tag team championship, with Penta facing Mistico and Rey Horuz in a three-way match. There’s always a chance The Crash could randomly stream some of this, but I wouldn’t count on it.
Angel o Demonio claimed to La Pasala that his wrestling license has been reactivated since Cuervo has left the hospital. That’s not exactly what the original threat was – Angel O Demonio was said to be suspended until Cuervo could wrestle again – but he’s clearly at the point of making up stuff to see if people will go for it. Angel o Demonio’s printed up t-shirts to sell that play off the attack but doesn’t believe people should yell at him about outside wrestling shows because “it happened so long ago.” Angel o Demonio says he’ll never work for the PALL promotions again for not supporting him. Angel o Demonio cost those promotions lots of money and
Angel o Demonio is going to keep wrestling unless the other wrestlers force it to not happen. Promoters and officials can occasionally be lectured into preventing him from working at times. It’s going to take a culture change to rid wrestling of guys like Angel o Demonio and that can only come from the wrestlers themselves. I’m sure there are luchadors who worked that benefit show who never wanted to work with him again, but we’ll see if they actually make a stink about. Today’s Arena Juarez Facebook posts have Pagano lending support to Angel o Demonio, so I don’t expect to universally happen by any means.
WWE’s one and only stop in Mexico this year is tonight in Mexico City. The popularity of the promotion in the country has greatly declined from their peak. Still, running a single show a year is going to draw in a lot of dedicated wrestling fans from across the country. Tonight’s show will include Andrade Almas’ first match in Mexico since joining WWE in 2015. He’ll face Rusev. Rey Mysterio Jr. will wrestle Shinsuke Nakamura for the US championship.
DTU’s Thursday show in Arena Aficion announced their anniversary show will be on 12/18 in the same arena. They seemed to set up Crazy King defending the DTU title against either Crazy Frank or the winner of tonight’s ultraviolent tournament, as well as Aeroboy vs CMLL’s Tiger for Aerboy’s Black Mask (Acapulco) Cruiserweight championship and a maybe three-way tag title match. They officially announced Familia de Tijuana (Damian, Halloween, Nicho) vs Pesadilla, Paranoiko, Crazy Boy for the show.

(9:57 [4:09, 3:09, 2:39], 2/3, below average, 02:10:48)
What happened:
This was the annual Leyendas show, featuring three matches built around returning old stars. Emphasis on old. Super Muneco and Super Pinocho teased their indie feud after the opener, and Canek & Rayo were among those obviously trying to drum up interest for one last feud.
Rush got a hat track to end his match: he knocked down Edgar, he fouled Sansón and he unmasked Sansón.
Thoughts:
The Guerreros/sort-Sky Team match stood out massively from the matches around it. They would’ve looked speedy and super athletic with a normal match. They looked ultrasonic because they tried to compress a much longer title match in a short time. (This seemed a consequence of previous matches running long; a CMLL show ending with the two shortest matches is peculiar.) There was a mistake here or there, notable Euforia missing a catch on a Místico dive and Gran Guerrero & Volador needing two tries on a chokeslam, but it held together relatively well for the conditions. There’s higher to go if they had a moment to let things sink in, but this was a match where what used to be third fall sure finishes were blown thru in the second fall. Or they were just near falls in the middle of chaos. It was an all action match with the técnicos looking very on. They made the most of their time.
The Dinamitas/Ingobernables match lacked much of an end game, but it was a lot of fun into them. The NGD got to work a lot as técnicos while still doing much of their teamwork spots. Los Ingobernables were trying in the first fall and built well to the comeback. It was thrown a little off by the first fall going very long to make up for no third fall. They still built to an exciting third fall with a combination of brawling. I think they have a better match as trios in them, but it seemed more like they were setting up the singles match.
The Microstars match was not as exciting as many of the past ones. Chamuel and Microman were magic together in the third fall, but it didn’t have as many strong moments or as good build as past ones. It started slow and didn’t really pick up until the crowd was horrified by Mircoman getting beat up to end the first fall. There were individual good moments but a lot of uninteresting parts too.
I wrote reviews of the legends match, but there’s really no point. All were varying levels of bad. None of it matters. It didn’t even seem to matter a lot to the fans who came for this show: the Trio Fantasia/Diabolicos match might have gotten the most reactions. The fourth match was frightening silent throughout. The performances were frightening too. Jerry Estrada made his return but looked like he was in no condition to be in the ring. Canek is increasingly immobile. There were no happy surprises this time: Los Diabolicos were worse this year, Solar & Negro Navarro gassed early (and their match seemed to fall apart in the first fall) and Atlantis didn’t look out of place in that main event. There’s nothing good you can take from those matches.
