Cavernario fouled Caristico, setting up a rematch for next week.
6) Terrible b Volador Jr.
Volador took falls 2/3.
This show doesn’t sound like it was good, with nothing much for the main event. The semi-main suggests Caristico/Cavernario on Christmas Day here, which wouldn’t air. It would also be tough (though not impossible) for Caristico to get from Puebla to his already announced show in Arena Lopez Mateos, so perhaps that’ll change.
Vangellys wants to be the best rudo in CMLL, which doesn’t sound good for CMLL.
Today’s Arena Mexico show doesn’t look much better. The main event has Atlantis teaming with Diamante Azul and Stuka against Cavernario, Euforia and Terrible, a match right out of the CMLL random match generator. The Panthers facing the Hijos del Infierno and Maya/Pegasso/Star vs Kawato/Tiger/Virus are the two long-shot chances for a good match. Drone versus Okumura is the lightning match. There is a women’s trio and a normal opener. There was nothing set up last week, so we’ll see if there’s any plans leading into the hyped Christmas Day show or if it’ll just be a lineup out of nowhere. The show will stream at 7:30 pm.
Reporte Indigo talks to Mephisto, who says he was a reserve for soccer team Toluca (the Diablo Rojos) in 1986 and blames favoritism for not making the first team. He trained both in wrestling and soccer from high school on, despite his father telling him that he was too fat for soccer and too thin for wrestling. He likes to fish in his free time.
CMLL Informa’s lineup includes Hijo del Villano III. The Facebook preview says he’ll talk about his coming debut.
AAA changed the Lucha Capital format, though they’ve explained it a bit before-hand. This tournament was announced as a 24 person tournament with one winner. Now there will be two: Taya, Keyra, and Vanilla will meet in a women’s final this Wednesday, and the men will be in their semifinal. The men and women were part of the same tournament early on – Keyra/Mascarita and Taya/Suicide matches happened – but now they’re not. It may just be changed to set up Taya getting a title shot at Shani for winning.
The semifinals for the men include Aerostar, Golden Magic, Laredo Kid, Hijo del Vikingo, Texano Jr., Maximo, Drago, and Mascarita Sagrada. All those people (men & women) did get one win and should be here, so that part makes sense. Murder Clown, Taurus only got one match but did lose it. Kross won his one match and should part of this, but is not included. Kross was clearly supposed to win the week he missed, so he’ll probably be back next week with a limited explanation.
Dragon Bane it was Dark Angel who recommended him for the WWE tryout. Dark Angel has a connection to Lucha Memes, so that’s probably how all that came together for Bane and the other Mexico wrestling picks. Dragon Bane was told he’ll get an email from WWE in the next few months if they have interest in signing him. That means he (and everyone else involved) are probably going to be thinking about nothing else but that email for the next few months, and assuming it’s coming in a positive way. Strangely, he doesn’t say anything about being contracted to AAA. (Maybe not that strangely.)
Dark Fantasy took Princesa Maya’s hair in LLF’s Anniversary/year closing show. Lady Flammer kept the promotion’s main championship over Zeuxis in the semi-main, tying the record for most defenses. They used special referees in the top two matches: La Chacala did the apuesta match and RIOT’s Alfredo Alvarado was in charge of the title match.
Zeta Tijuana interviewed the head of Tijuana Box, Lucha, and MMA commission, who says there were 20 wrestling functions at Auditorio de Tijuana this year, and 12 other ones around Tijuana. I count 24 at the big arena, and I know without counting that there are more than 12 other ones.
Lucah Libre Estrella Fiesta was announced for Korakuen Hall on 03/14. Random lucha libre appearances in Japan have been increasingly common this year – I didn’t even write about the Brazos, Lizmark Jr., and Hijo de Dos Caras being there last week. This one sticks out because it’s an increasingly rare El Hijo del Santo appearance. He only has wrestled one time this year as far as I can find. The Wagners, Silver King, Fuerza Guerrera, Misterioso (said to be the original), Volador (Super Parka), Kendo, Takeda, and Diamante are announced.
Rey Fenix is still being advertised for the Christmas Day Arena Neza show, which is odd for a person who should be out injured still at that point. The scheduled main event is Lucha Brothers versus Rush & Dragon Lee, which would be Dragon Lee’s third announced match for that day.
An El Hijo del Santo match, increasingly rare, been announced for March 14, 2019 in Korakuen Hall. It looks like a one night Estrella Fiesta show with Dr. Wagner, Ultimo Dragon, Hijo del Wagner, Fuerza Guerrera, Silver King, Super Parka, Misterioso (California), Kendo and Diamante, promoted by Rossy Ogawa. No sign of Santo Jr.
LuchaWorld has this week’s Poster-Mania.
+LuchaTV has a new edition of their Tubecast and a sit down with Mr. Iguana & Fresero Jr..

For a Christmas present, AAA is giving an Elite show that you can safely skip. It will nice to see Chicano make TV for the first time in months and what happens in the opener, but nothing says non-essentially taping more than Halcon 78 and the Samoan brothers working third from the top. There’s also not really that many Elite names for an AAA vs Elite show.
