CMLL (TUE) 11/27/2018 Arena México [Lucha Central, The Gladiatores, CMLL]
1) Mercurio & Pequeño Nitro b Kaligua & Shockercito
2) Cancerbero, Metálico, Nitro b Pegasso, Robin, Star Jr.
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit DQ Dalys, Reyna Isis, Tiffany
straight falls, the last when Reyna Isis tries tossing her mask to Princesa Sugehit but did it right in front of referee Edgar.
4) Black Panther b Dragón Rojo Jr. [lightning]
Black Panther replaced Blue Panther and won in 4:09.
5) Soberano Jr., Stuka Jr., Titán b Hechicero, Templario, Vangellys
Valiente was wrongly listed and replaced by Titan. Tecnicos took 1/3.
6) Ángel de Oro, Diamante Azul, Niebla Roja b Ephesto, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero
Tecnicos took 2/3.
No angles here. Promo from Titan and Niebla Roja hype the bodybuilding contest, not anything that happened here.
Not completely sure what happened with the lightning match. The finish looked like the referee screwed up the count. R de Rudo noted some people on Twitter thought Dragon Rojo looked in no condition to wrestle. CultIcon just saw it as a mediocre match, which might have been all it was given Dragon Rojo. It is still confusing why they advertised Blue Panther for a match he shouldn’t have been in.
The bodybuilding contest is happening right now.
Lucha Capital is tonight at 8:30 pm on Facebook Watch. No matches have been announced for the first time in this tournament. Instead, Pentagon Jr., Aerostar, Golden Magic, Lady Shani, Fenix, Nino Hamburguesa, Lady Maravilla and Maximo are listed as wrestling. Maximo/Hamburgesa, Maravilla/Shani, Golden/Penta and Aerostar/Fenix’s replacement makes the most sense. However, the guiding principle of AAA appears to be “it does not have to make sense”, so who knows.
AAA hasn’t explained what is going on with Fenix. They’re promoting this show instead as a unique occasion to see Penta, Fenix, and Blue Demon together. (I feel like LU Season 1 and half of the Generacion XXI shows have also had this unique occasion.) Blue Demon is famous but has not been responsible for a good match for a very long time. It would be very bad news if he was being brought in to take Fenix’s place in this tournament.
This would also be a logical time for AAA to announce how they’re handling the heavyweight title match at Guerra de Titanes. AAA’s avoided hyping that match this week to this point, possibly concerned they’ll be jumped on by some lame Twitter user. They’ll have Fenix, they’ll have authority figure Vampiro, and they’ll have the most live viewers they’ll have on a broadcast between now and Sunday. (Also, if they’re looking for an outside name to replace Fenix, Penta will also be there and is an obvious pick if he’s ok with the outcome.) Lucha Capital has not done much with the main AAA show storylines to this point and nothing has to make sense with AAA.
It is amazing that Fenix will (theoretically) even just be brought in for the show. If you recall, the original breaking point between AAA & Fenix was AAA refusing to fly Fenix in from San Diego for TripleMania. They’re now apparently flying him in from San Diego just to chat in a barbecue restaurant.
The Crash has announced their Fenix related card changes for Saturday. Bestia 666 & Mecha Wolf move up to face Sanson & Cuatrero for the vacant titles. Penta moves down to their match, which is now a three-way with Mistico and Rey Horus. A bit notable here, because The Crash decided not to announce card changes the last time Fenix missed a show. This is also the fourth straight time The Crash tag championship has been vacated without a defense. No one’s actually ever successfully defended the titles, but at least it changed hands in the ring in 2016. Bestia & Mecha ought to win; not only do they have the best chance to actually defend it, but The Crash has been a group versus group promotion. Rebelion Amarila are the strongest group and they should take advantage of it by building around a team title.
Bates de Vibranio reported Cuervo has been discharged from the hospital. Not sure if he’s going directly to Puerto Rico but he looks a lot better. He was told not to do serious physical activity or lift weights for six months. Cuervo plans on returning to wrestle in Mexico someday.
EMW says they’re moving their Tijuana AAA house show on 12/15 from the Auditorio to Arena Big Punch due to “changes in administrator and logistics” with the big building. That seems like a big change. There’s a poster for the show but no lineup.
The La Quebradora columns in El Grafico argues it is time for Cavernario to lead his own group instead of being a junior member in another.
Reforma has a 30-minute interview with Vampiro. I don’t see me spending the time on this one.
Lucha World has the latest Lucha Report.
