Cuervo benefit show, Angel o Demonio suspended, Lucha Capital week 4

Flyer

Cuervo & Angel o Demonio

Cuervo underwent surgery midday Tuesday. On his Facebook, it is said they successfully removed a blood clot from Cuervo’s head. Cuervo’s injuries are described as a skull fracture and an epidural hematoma. He was still in intensive care at last word and is expected to be hospitalized at least a week more before being transferred to a rehab facility.

Angel o Demonio spoke to Pasala, saying the same things he’s said on video and on Facebook: he meant to hit Cuervo in the back, not the head, and Cuervo just happened to stand up and the wrong time. This appears to me to be a lie. Cuervo is back to standing up when Angel o Demonio has the brick in hand, and that brick would’ve come nowhere near Cuervo’s back. Angel o Demonio also said Cuervo was not qualified to be in an extreme match. At no point is Angel o Demonio appear apologetic about or even bothered by almost killing another person.

A benefit show for Cuervo will be held tomorrow in Arena Naucalpan. Tickets are 100 pesos.

PALL (THU) 11/22/2018 Arena Naucalpan

LA Park will main event and filmed a promo for the show. He’s been a big part of this behind the scenes. Penta is not on the card but has said he will be there.

If you would like to support this show, RobViper is accepting money thru Paypal that will be used to either buy tickets for the show (1 ticket is $5 USD) or be given directly to Cuervo’s family if possible. You can find more information here.

Tuesday afternoon, the Estado de Mexico lucha libre commission issued a statement. They announced Angel o Demonio was banned from wrestling in the state indefinitely and asked for other states to also uphold this suspension. The commission also wants to bring in Hector Guzman (owner of the arena) and Juan Morales Mejia (Lucha Libre Boom promoter Fantasma de la Opera) to find out why there was an extreme match on that show, claiming extreme matches are specifically not permitted in the state.

That last bit doesn’t hold water; extreme matches happen fairly frequently in Mexico State (seemingly because Mexico City itself won’t allow anyone but AAA to do them.) MedioTiempo’s report on the story says the commission had approved the lineup days prior, with Cuervo & Angel o Demonio in a casket match. Also, the regulations for the commission do not actually give them the power to suspend someone indefinitely. I’m all for not letting Angel o Demonio wrestle, but the statement was more about the commission trying to protect itself.

SuperLuchas points out that the commission statement says nothing about how they’re going to help Cuervo and does not ask the promoters involved to do so.

Hector Guzman offered his arena for a second benefit show in his own press release. The press release also mentions they’re taking no position for or against anyone involved in the incident. It’s surprisingly difficult for people in charge in Mexico to come out against a brick to the back of the head.

Ovaciones’ version of the story is that organizers of the show (Lucha Libre Boom, Lucha Memes) and IWRG’s Marco Moreno (as leader of PALL) took Cuervo to the hospital and paid for all his expenses. I do not believe that was correct; I heard of wrestlers working to raise money for his surgery yesterday. (Edit: Lucha Memes says they’re paying for everything.) If you recall DJZ’s injury situation (told on a Colt Cabana podcast ), Mexican doctors will usually not operate on a foreigner unless they’re paid in advance.

The Ovaciones story also mentions the doctor (Rafael Ugalde Rodriguez) actually refused to take Cuervo to the hospital and left the show early, as did the lucha libre commissioner. I’m unclear if the commission was ever actually at Arena Lopez Mateos that night.

Angel o Demonio has been announced for two upcoming shows. One is in the same Arena Lopez Mateos for the same Lucha Libre Boom on December 1st. The lineup for that show came out not long after the attack on Monday, so the card might have been done already and may be changing. Another is for a Furia de Titanes show in Mexico City’s Circo Volador on 12/08.  I suspect Angel o Demonio will not be working these shows while the heat is on, but I don’t know how long that’ll last.

Titan versus Flyer seems like it’s worth watching. The one promo is Titan talking about his win. I don’t think we should take Raziel as actually appearing on these cards until he’s also announced for the important show (CMLL Informa.)

Speaking of people who are probably not back until they appear on CMLL Informa, Dragon Lee officially left Exatlon last night due to a medical issue with one of his ears. (TV Azteca says Dragon Lee was in danger of losing his hearing if his ear came in contract with water or mud.) I wonder if having to wear a mask all the time during filming helps or hurts with that. You can see an emotional farewell to him from the show. His social accounts have been run by other people while he’s been on the show and I haven’t yet seen any sign that he’s back.

This should air Saturday. I missed it last week but there’s another channel that’s sometimes streaming it.

Other News

Lucha Capital episode 4 is tonight. It’s the weakest card they’ve had so far. Mascarita Sagrada versus Killer Kross is not intended to be a good match and will likely not be one. Puma King and Pagano does not seem like a good mix. Neither does Vanilla and Hijo del Vikingo. Drago versus Keyra is the best chance for a good match, but it would also seem an odd mix on any other show. The show will air on Facebook at 8:30 pm and can be watched later. Lucha Capital has a preview.

AAA quietly posted the Guerra de Titanes in Aguascalientes lineup. There are no changes from what had been advertised locally. Scarlett is still in the title match, which either means they worked out whatever kept from appearing in Juarez or they just didn’t feel like updating the poster.

There will be 3000 copies of the Nueva Generacion Dinamita comic, which was unveiled yesterday They’ll cost 120 MXP ($6 USD) and they’re hoping to put out new comics covering wrestlers out every three months. El Grafico says the next would feature Angel de Oro, Niebla Roja, and Soberano Junior. The comics will be available at the four CMLL Arenas.

In this interview, King Phoenix seems to think the winner of his match with Cavernario faces Volador the following Friday. That would not make any sense but I can’t rule it out.

Lucha World has the latest news update.

A licensing exam will be held in Torreon this Saturday.

Box Y Lucha posted a 1969 article about murders in wrestling.

Andrade Almas promoted his 12/01 Mexico City appearance with WWE on what must’ve been a conference call. He said people in Mexico believe the Americans are not as prepared as the Mexicans, but he feels the big difference is the Americans are more defined as characters. This set of interviews must’ve been a while back because he talks about hoping to face Rey Mysterio someday and they had a match a couple of weeks ago.
