I added 1960s lucha libre lineups, mostly from the cities Torreon and Gomez Palacio to the luchadb database earlier this month. This covers every year from 1960 to 1969. They’re integrated in the different pages of this site, and they’re also just available here. This is a slow continuing project to mine the El Siglo de Torreon archive for lucha lineups and results.
Again, that’s an inflated number, including events found from other sources (including the old magazines that I should’ve gotten back to by now but no.) There’s actually 133 posters in this batch, down from 274 in the last group. That’s why this one is a turnaround.
The events included are mostly ones at Plaza de Toros Torreon. Posters/reports from the period confirm there were other buildings holding events, but they’re not advertising in the paper. It’s also for certain not all the events at the Plaza de Toros, though the bullfights themselves seem to happen more often in this time period. There are fairly regular event listings from 1966 to 1968 and rare information otherwise.
That poster is maybe the most useful stuff I found. It’s the September 25, 1966 lineup and appears to be a title change that’s usually been reported as being in November. It’s a small correction, but we can give Polo Torres an extra 40ish days for his title reign.
There are a few serious crimes that get mentioned. The most serious are the murders of Espanto I & Misterio Negro II in Monterrey, a shocking enough story that it makes Espanto’s hometown paper. Both are shot in a bar by the owner. The police note it happened so suddenly that they didn’t have time to defend themselves.
At this point, I only have to do the 1950s (where there seems to be more), and probably not a lot in the 1930s & 1940s to be done with this part forever.

Main event was said to be pretty good. Regular guys lost to the guys back in for one night a lot, but it’s IWRG.
Do you remember last year, when Fantasma had a scary heart issue and nearly died and was said to be retired from wrestling forever? This isn’t the first match he’s had this year. It’s weird if not entirely unexpected that he’s wrestling.

Turnout seemed pretty well for this show. They did a lot of local promotion, including a fan fest earlier in the day with Mexico’s World Cup game playing. Top 3 matches were all noted to be good in that recap. It’s possible they may turn up thru Aro Lucha’s social media, but this seemed presented simply as a house show. No next date was announced.
Draztick Boy was advertised and miss the show, but everyone else was there. PW Insider says Aro Lucha ran the show to sell the concept to potential sponsors. Those probably included Modelo, who’s logo was plastered around the building. Modelo is also sponsoring this season of Lucha Underground.
Rush moves from LA Park back to his previous feud against Kraneo tonight in Arena Puebla. Kraneo pulled the upset in the blowoff to this issue back in April. It probably should go Rush’s this way now since he’s facing LA Park next, though the result of an Arena Puebla show probably won’t make much of a difference.
The main event has Flyer, Soberano and Volador against Gran Guerrero, Ultimo Guerrero and Titan, which should set up Titan/Soberano for the national welterweight championship next week. Mascara 2000, Universo 2000 and Okumura take on Esfinge, Fuego and Stigma in an odd mix of the fourth match. Estrellita & Princesa Sugehit take on Amapola & La Seductora. Acero, Astro, Asturiano and Stigma face Joker, Pequeno Universo 2000, Pierrothito, and Sauron in a minis/locals atomicos. That might set up a quick apuesta match. Black Tiger & Meyer take on Guerrero Espacial and another wrestler in the opener.

CMLL says their next big show is the 07/13 Atlantis tribute show. They ended the Sunday show by reminding the viewers that similar shows to honor Negro Casas & Blue Panther are coming this year. (They mentioned a Mascara 2000 one previously, might have slipped their mind.) I think they’re also running the Gran Prix at some point this summer as well.
After retaining the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship earlier tonight, Hiromu Takahashi suggested Dragon Lee as his next challenger. We know Dragon Lee will be in the area of NJPW’s Cow Palace show on 07/07 (he’s booked in the King of Indies the night before.) So is Titan, which normally would mean it’s more likely a Dragon Lee/Titan vs Hiromu/BUSHI tag match. However, what I didn’t remember is BUSHI is already scheduled in a match. So are the rest of Los Ingobernables. That sort of leaves it as having to be Dragon Lee/Hiromu.
AXS announced they’ll start broadcasting WOW (Women of Wrestling) events in September 2019. This is (barely) relevant because MGM owns part of WOW, and also owns part of Lucha Underground. Perhaps owning two TV wrestling shows will allow them to pool resources if you’re optimistic, perhaps they’ll decide to only own one wrestling promotion if you’re pessimistic. September 2019 is a long way away either way.

What happened:
Raziel makes Tirantes miserable
Rey Bucanero jumped Atlantis. Rush decided to watch from the outside as his partners got beat up. The rudos eventually dragged him in for him to get beat. Rush participated in the second fall like a normal técnico for the most part. When Bucanero reversed a ‘rana on Atlantis, Rush reached in the ring to help hold Atlantis down. That seemed more like Rush screwing around than a designed part of the finish. Bucanero challenged Atlantis to a title match next week. Atlantis wanted a mask vs hair match. Bucanero said no.
Misterioso took Oro’s mask after his match. He pointed at (guest commentator) Tiger too, who’s had a problem with Misterioso stealing his mask in the past.
Signo is a sub in the second match for Arkangel de la Muerte, who was later explained to have missed this match due to feeling ill. Arkangel passed away later this night from a heart attack.
Raziel and Tirantes have a reoccurring argument thru the first half of the match. I’m not even sure when it starts, maybe even as early as Tirantes saying something during an opening Raziel handshake spot with Tirantes. Whatever it is, Raziel keeps finding ways to walk over to Tirantes and have an angry word with him. This is highlighted by Raziel going for six straight pinfalls of Robin specifically to make Tirantes have to get up and down repeatedly.
Thoughts:
the landing could’ve been better but the setup is great
Los Guerreros are really enjoying finding ways to make Angel de Oro’s life miserable. Otherwise, the main event had about as use to me as it did Rush. He was laughing while half heatedly brawling with Gran Guerrero after something went wrong, and he seemed to be fooling around on the finish. Atlantis and Bucanero were involved with the finish despite not doing all that much. I am going to force myself to watch the title match without much hope.
Shocker doing middle rope elbow drops while Templario meanders around the ramp is not an ideal use of talent. Shocker was in for a lot of this match, while Templario did little of what makes him interesting out of his finish. Everyone else kept it relatively simple. The Panther/Hechicero mat exchange to start was fun, and there wasn’t much more on that level. Templario/Cometa would be fun if they ever did the lightning match.
The lightning match was the expected combination of fun moves between Drone & Audaz, and it was enough to outweigh not having an ending. That match itself could’ve used a better structure – Drone superkicking Audaz off the apron to set up his dive twice was silly – but Audaz does a lot of tricky stuff. The novelty of getting to see him in this environment, and see that he has plenty more he can do than he even could show in ten minutes, was a good sign. I think Drone could’ve done more than he did here too, and it felt like a pace to kill ten minutes rather than either guy trying to win. And yet this was still the match I liked the most from this show.

Titan/Soberano still seems to be happening a week from Monday, and Hechicero/Mascara 2000 seems like an actual title match given how they hyped it here.

Earlier, 450 challenged Mesias to a match to determine the best Puerto Rican wrestler of the moment. Daga challenged Riddle to a singles match on the next show. Fenix and Daga had some tension after the loss.
6) Bestia 666, Garza Jr., Rush b Alberto el Patrón, Penta Zero M, Rey Mysterio Jr. win via Rush foul on Alberto. Mysterio challenged Bestia to a mask vs hair match, which Bestia accepted.
Show seemed to draw well. Live reports were really strong on Horuz/Theory, who may have worked before in Mucha Lucha Atlanta.
The Crash posted video of a Fenix and Daga backstage argument, so this appears to be going anywhere (and isn’t just the regulars losing to guest wrestlers like usual.) Daga/Riddle seems on for the next show in the meantime. La Rebelion Amarilla are also doing a bit where they’re going to make Fenix, Penta and Rey pay for betraying their cause and going back to work with AAA.
Octagon, Blue Demon and WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne were among those advertised for the next The Crash show in July. Dunne is allowed to wrestle on his days off from WWE, as long as it’s not a promotion with a streaming service. Finally, The Crash’s lack of availability works in their favor in the most meaningless ways.

CMLL announced this as a streaming show an hour after before it happened. It was alright. You can see the women’s match got a lot of time and the rest of the show seemed like it was cut to get it closer to schedule. It was a good women’s match if way too long. The micro man wasn’t at the level of previous ones.

Park screamed for a match with Rush (super libre + mask/hair) and Rush agreed to a match next week, saying he wants blood.
CMLL promos: Mercurio (wants a title shot) OneAtos Styles (want more challenges) Mephisto (talks about Arkangel), Caristico (talks about Dragon Lee), Cibernetico (his return to CMLL) La Familia Real. The general media interviews included Cibernetico (teased Kaoz, the faction he has with Zorro, Manson and Mesias, coming to Arena Mexico), LA Park (wants to yell loud enough for Paco Alonso to hear he wants the mask/hair match), Rush (just wants blood), Mephisto (talks about Arkangel)
This was another overall enjoyable Friday show. The main event was better than the last couple of weeks for being all over the place. Caristico & Dragon Lee is worth ten minutes.
It’s not happening next Friday because Penta is booked in California. I believe Penta booked in other places the next couple of weeks and I know Dragon Lee is busy. He’s got the NJPW Daytona show on the 29th (teaming with Taguchi versus Sho & Yo), and then out to California for the King of the Indies on July 6th. Penta will make it to Arena Mexico eventually, it’s just not happening right away.
(Also: is Dragon Lee the only one in CMLL – maybe the only one in Mexico? – doing short videos to hype upcoming matches like this? Everyone else can’t be letting him be fair ahead of the game at the wrestling AND the non-wrestling, that’s just unfair.)
This weekend has a fair bit of shows of some importance
The Crash has slipped from attention with AAA bringing many of their wrestlers aboard. They still have a pretty loaded show Saturday night in Tijuana. The main event is an all-star lineup Alberto, Rey and Penta against Garza, Bestia, and Rush. It should be enough to fill the building on its own. Daga & Fenix take on Adam Brooks someone & Matt Riddle in the semimain. The card is full of more US indie names.The Crash seems to have endorsed the VideosLuchas3000 YouTube channel as its official bootlegger. There probably will be other versions as well.
Atlantis, Stuka Jr. & Guerrero Maya Jr. have the second match of their two-day tour in Dallas tonight. They challenge The Kingdom (Matt Taven, TK O’Ryan, and Vinny Marseglia) for the ROH Trios championship. Team CMLL has a better chance of anyone reading this of becoming the champions tonight, but not a much better chance. They’re a guest team who might not be back in ROH, and the last ROH TV taping hinted Ultimo Guerrero + friends are challenging The Kingdom soon, maybe even on the next ROH PPV.
Last night’s Team CMLL match against So Cal Uncensored was said to be a good match. They can probably work out the same here. Tonight’ show will stream live on ROH’s ROHWorld service at 7 pm.
Lucha Memes & MDA make their annual return to Puebla, with a lot of locals getting the sort of chances against Mexico City wrestlers they don’t get on Arena Puebla shows. Prayer, who had a big match with Virus last year, faces Blue Panther this time around. ex-Mini Multifacetico faces Templario. Arkalis is supposed to face Aramis, but Arkalis is also listed as working in Arena Coliseo that night. I’d be shocked if he picked Memes over a chance in CMLL.As always with Lucha Memes, we have no idea if anything will turn up or when it’ll turn up. Puebla shows are unlikely to be fan-camed in a complete fashion, so you’ll have to wait until +LuchaTV puts it up. That usually happens around the time of the next show important show in the market – they put up highlights of the last Puebla show Friday night.
LuchaMemes, MDA, and Lucha Libre Boom are in Arena Lopez Mateos the next day. The main event sees Octagon & son against Penta & Ultimo Gladiador in a clash of styles. The Ricky Marvin indie tour continues on with his first ever singles match against Daga. Mesias is a surprising inclusion in a Solar vs Negro Navarro & Satanico match.This show being in Arena Lopez Mateos means there will be five different versions of these matches up on YouTube in the next week. Most of them will be weirdly and confusingly edited. It’ll also appear in some form on the +Lucha channel.
Aro Lucha pops up for the first time in four months with a show in its home base of the Nashville Fairgrounds. This was originally scheduled as the start of Season 1 tapings for their TV show (and is still listed that way on their WeFunder page – up to $112K) but has said to be just a live event. Rey Mysterio Jr. is booked, so much hunch is they had already paid for this Mysterio date, the official tapings aren’t ready to go, and they decided to just run a live event since they had Rey. The main event has been announced as Willie Mack, Black Taurus, Shane Strickland vs Rey Mysterio, Fenix and Sammy Guevera. Plenty of other people have been announced. What we’re really looking for here is any sign there’s movement a greater plan. This promotion hasn’t done anything but cancel shows and announce they were looking for money in the last few months. Running any show is a nice change of pace but one show on its own isn’t a solution.Even though this is not an official taping, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was still recorded at some level – it’s useful footage to sell investors and TV people on the product, and to put out on social media. Some matches from their February events (the last time they ran) were put on YouTube, so it’s possible a match or two will eventually slip out.
IWRG has it’s annual Festival de las Mascaras show on Sunday. That show is usually centered around older and near retired luchadors coming back in the original masked characters for one night a year. This year, it’s that and it is also LA Park & Rush fighting while Hijo de LA Park & Dragon Lee stand nearby. It’s been very obvious CMLL has told Park & Rush to reign it in after the first suitcase busting match. It doesn’t appear anyone in IWRG has ever been told to hold back in a brawl. That beer bottle cooler is going to be raided. The one concern here is Rush is also booked in the main event of the CMLL Father’s Day show, so the IWRG show will probably go long and Rush might not be totally into it.It’s Rush & Park, so I expect the half of the people who don’t go to Arena Lopez Mateos to go to Arena Naucalpan. It’ll also air on IWRG’s YouTube channel/+LuchaTV and I may be able to get a copy from AYM if that feed works.
CMLL does have that Father’s Day show. Non-Friday CMLL shows have been pretty consistently boring of late, so even though this one should be better than usual, I don’t get the sense anyone cares about it airing. It probably won’t. It is a bit weird CMLL has one day of the week hot and most every other day of the week very cold.
AAA announced Jeff Jarrett will be part of their 07/13 Queretaro taping, the next one to take place. The full card will be announced on Monday.
