Magia Blanca will be out 6-9 months after tearing the ACL in his left knee injury on Tuesday. The injury came when Akuma fell on Magia Blanca after taking an armdrag from Retro at end of the second match in Arena Mexico. It came off as a weird fluke, though Blanca was obviously in a lot of pain the moment it occurred. On Facebook, Magia Blanca thanks everyone for their support and says this ends his year (which means he’s expecting to be on the longer side of that recovery.) Akuma is apologetic for the injury and says these things happen in wrestling. Box Y Lucha has an audio interview with Magia Blanca about the injury.
The debut of Atlantis Jr. is now looking like mid-2019 according to Atlantis. At one point, they were talking about him debuting in 2017. I don’t know if Atlantis is ever going to do the big mask loss, but it’s definitely not coming while that debut is still in the future.
If you were hoping to marathon thru Lucha Underground Season 3 on Netflix before the Season 4 premiere on June 13, it looks like you’re going to be out of luck. Lists of what will be added to Netflix in June are up and the only wrestling content to be found is Season 2 of GLOW. The original stated plan was first to have Season 3 up by the time taping started on Season 4, then later just before it aired. Timelines are not something LU is great at meeting.
The Netflix deal was mentioned as being for the first two seasons, with an option to pick up the third season if both sides were happy. It never seemed like the LU side was totally happy with what they were being offered for those first two season and were hoping for an increase on Season 3. Perhaps that hasn’t come and LU is looking elsewhere. Many other El Rey shows have turned up on Verizon’s Go90 app, though it’s hard to believe they’d be offering that much more than Netflix. It could be that LU’s parent companies are talking with lots of people and we just won’t know anything about it until there’s announcement out of the blue. Still, if you’re holding out to see season 3 on demand, you might have to break down and buy the Amazon or iTunes season pass.
Outside the moment where the trailer came and was analyzed, it’s been a quiet build to season 4. Maybe they’ll start promoting it more once June starts. Not exactly holding my breath on that though.
KDNA, the local promoter for Verano de Escandalo, is now offering a pair of the cheapest seats for 150. They’d be 200 on their own. It’s not a steep discount and all the ticket prices are unchanged, but it suggests they’ve moving a little slower than usual.
Lost in Lucha looks back at LA Park vs Hijo del Santo from 2001.
Violento Jack & Daisuke Masaoka won the King of Freedom’s Tag Team championship.
Lineups
CMLL (TUE) 05/29/2018 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Gemelo Pantera I, Gemelo Pantera II, Pantera Blanca Jr. vs Carlo Roggi, Maléfico, Mr. Apolo
2) Estrellita, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, La Metálica
3) Audaz, Star Black, Stigma vs Cancerbero, Difunto, Raziel
4) Diamante Azul, Esfinge, Soberano Jr. vs Furia Roja, Mephisto, Okumura
5) Carístico, Kráneo, Último Guerrero vs Mistico, Mr. Niebla, Rush
Cavernario and his title match with Soberano seems to be missing. Furia Roja is in a match higher position than usual, but the Panteras being on this card throws everything off.
Mexa Wrestling (SAT) 06/09/2018 Arena San Juan Pantitlan, Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, Estado de México
1) Leo, Mike, Rafy, Teelo vs Danger, Loquillo, Sádico, Yoruba
2) Axel Lee, Kempo, Sirius, Venus vs Black Star, Pequeño Aéreo, Príncipe Azul, Torito Negro
3) Látigo vs Arez
4) Zeuxis vs Keyra vs Lady Flammer
5) Centvrión & Fly Star vs Metaleón & Toxin
6) El Bandido vs Steve Pain
7) Golden Boy & Símbolo (Monterrey) vs Corsario Negro Jr. & Drako
The Mexa Wrestling cards this year have been interesting, and there’s always a half dozen people taping them. Steve Pain is in Mexico now and showing up on cards like this. A match with Bandido is promising. The women’s match is Zeuxis’ first known post-CMLL match and should be good. So should Latigo/Arez and the fifth match.
LLB MDA BOOM (SUN) 06/17/2018 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Rocky Santana vs Terry 2000, Sepulturero, Robin Maravilla, Pequeño Yaqui, Sádico, Súper Chavo, Danny Boy, Judas el Traidor [Copa Retro Ídolos de la López Mateos]
2) Demasiado, Fandango, Óscar El Hermoso vs Divino, El Hijo Del Brazo De Platino, Ninja de Fuego
3) Emperador Azteca vs ?
4) Keyra & Zumbido vs Lady Maravilla & Steve Pain
5) Ricky Marvin vs Daga
6) El Mesías & Solar I vs Negro Navarro & Satánico
7) Hijo De Octagon & Octagón vs Penta Zero M & Último Gladiador
Main event is the Octagons against a Pentagon Jr. & a former Parka Negra, though none of these people actually feuded. Mesias is an odd fit for maestros match. Marvin continues to get his showcase matches Daga.
This seems like a post-CMLL booking for Maravilla, who is still currently in CMLL. Zumbido doesn’t get many high profile bookings nowadays.
