Reviews seem to be all over the places on this show, ranging from average to one of the best of the year. Everyone seems to agree Casas/Soberano was really good.
CMLL has post match intreviews with Dragon Rojo & Polvora, Esfinge, Triton & Titan (officially as Guanatos Style), Negro Casas, and Ultimo Guerrero & Templario. Negro Casas also crashed Soberano’s interview with the press to remember to ask for a title match. Titan talked there about going back to Ring of Honor.
CMLL looks back at Euforia winning the 2012 Gran Alternativa.
Dragon Lee posted a photo from training, so he’s still getting ready for the Best of Super Juniors even if he’s not wrestling on shows. Skadi is also in the phot, so mus be close to returning.
AAA released an updated card for Verano de Escandalo, filling in almost all of the surprise spots.
AAA TV (SUN) 06/03/2018 Plaza de Toros La Monumental, Monterrey, Nuevo León
1) Arkángel Divino, Dinastía, Hijo Del Vikingo, Star Fire vs Arez, Belial, Lady Maravilla, Último Maldito
2) Lady Shani, Mamba, Pimpinela Escarlata vs ?, Black Danger (Baja California), La Hiedra
3) Drago vs Sammy Guevara, Aerostar, Australian Suicide, Darby Allin
4) La Máscara, Máximo, Pagano vs Juventud Guerrera, Killer Kross, Texano Jr.
4) Hijo del Fantasma & Psycho Clown vs Brian Cage & Rey Escorpión
6) Averno, Chessman, Súper Fly vs Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Tito Santana [hair]
7) Dr. Wagner Jr. © vs Rey Mysterio Jr. [AAA HEAVY]
There’s one they notably did not fill in: the main event had been listed as a three way match, and now is a straight Wagner/Mysterio match. Notably, no sign of Blue Demon, Hernandez or Hijo del Dr. Wagner, who had been the focus of the promotion the first half of the year. No La Mascara or Maximo La Parka & Dave the Clown either.
Cage & Escorpion were the mystery opponents for Fantasma & Psycho. Kross & Juvy are Texano’s surprise teammates, the same as in Tehuacan next Friday. That show still is a lot of mystery people, though it’ll probably be some of the mystery people we see here. Darby Allin had be the guess as the mystery guy in the five way and will be one, but now the match is no longer for a heavyweight title match. The one mystery spot still left is the rudo side in the second match. It probably should be Faby Apache, so she and Shani can actually interact. Their “feud” is reaching the same levels of the Ivelisse/Catrina one from Lucha Underground season 3.
The opener has the most ‘new’ names, though may show up before this show. Star Fire is a long ago CMLL fringe roster member who’s been mostly been wrestling on the indies (and has missed the last couple of shows she’s been advertised.) Arez & Belial had AAA tryouts matches in 2015 but didn’t stick around when they were told they’d have to work AAA small shows around the country and decided to work their own schedule instead. That seems to have worked out for them, so I would suspect they’re also going to keep working some indie schedule if they’re being brought in at the opener level.
Lady Maravilla also was in AAA in 2015 and 2016 before jumping over to ELITE. After she left, Konnan said one reason was because referee Copetes was sexually harassing her, and an AAA/Marisela Pena investigation into it cleared Copetes. Maravilla did not make the same claim – she didn’t dismiss them either, but kind of sidestepped the topic. Copetes is listed as a referee for this show. Lady Maravilla is listed as working tonight’s Arena Coliseo show and Monday’s Arena Puebla show. Her Facebook fanclub posted a message that they say proves she’s staying with CMLL and the AAA news is false. Obviously, if she was going to AAA and had not yet informed CMLL of her decision, then that’s the story she should would have to say. Like Arez & Belial, I suspect Maravilla appearing on this card would means she would be actually returning to the indies with some AAA dates, rather than going full time with AAA. CMLL seems to view Maravilla as just one of a bunch of young women they have no plans to push this decade in a division going nowhere, so her leaving would be no big surprise.
AAA’s also quietly fixed the 05/31 Arena Aficion lineup: Big Mami & Nino Hamburugesa are now facing La Hiedra & Villano III Jr., instead of the mixed up teams they had before. Not that they know exactly what’s going on; the “La Parka” written column in Record believes Hiedra & Villano III Jr. are the champions. They are not, though they did steal the belts in an angle last year that was dropped. It’s odd to preview that lineup and not the Tehuacan show that’s actually happenign this week. Everything with AAA is a bit odd now.
RIOT has Riotmania on 05/26 in Arena LLF
- Low Rider vs Caifan II
- Chik Torementa vs Lady Flammer
- Bandido vs Ultimo Ninja
- Extra Talent-ed (Ricky Starks & Aaron Solow) versus Los Mismos de Siempre (Kratoz & Kamikaze)
- Mr. Iguana vs Erik Ortiz – new
The new match has a story, though not exactly related to the match. RIOT references in a hashtag, “#BloqueameEsta“, an issue that only seems to be talked about on Facebook. People in Monterrey are saying Iguana was told by Lucha Memes to no longer work for RIOT if he wanted to work for Lucha Memes. Memes hasn’t directly responded, though they have posed memes. I guess that makes sense.
Casandro spoke to the press at the premiere of a documentary on his life, saying a fictional film about his life is also being prepared. Casandro said the director is looking to get Gael Garcia Bernal to playing him. The headline makes it sound like it’s happening, the body of the article says it hasn’t been confirmed. There’s also a book coming.
LuchaWorld has their latest news update.
Lucha Central posted a Flamita, Torito, Laredo Kid, Willie Mack, Fly Warrior, Lince Dorado, Septimo Dragon match from 2016.
