Mascara 2000 Jr. used a Universo 2000 martillo negro on Dark Magic for the DQ. He was suspended for 7 days as a result.
In other family news on the show, Medico Asesino posed with Mexico City commissioner Dr. Gustavo Zavaleta. Zavaleta has been rumored to be a former Medico Asesino but I don’t believe it’s ever been publicly acknowledged.
Looks like Ultimo Panda is working in IWRG on DragonMania weekend.
Tonight’s Arena Puebla show has a title match with seemingly no chance of a title changing hands but a good chance of a good match. Valiente & Volador defend the CMLL tag team titles against the odd pair of Caristico & Ultimo Guerrero. This is sort of a follow up to last month’s Sky Team vs UG/GG/Caristico trios title match, which turned out to be a set up for Caristico/Mistico. Just like then, it’s hard to believe CMLL would make a mismatched team of a rudo and a tecnico champion, but the two sides should match up well.
The semimain is another mixed up match, with Euforia & Gran Guerrero teaming with Rush against Kraneo, Rey Bucanero and Rush’s friend Terrible. That doesn’t look like a good fit. Audaz, Drone and Esfinge take on Felino, Misterioso and Sagrado in the tercera. The Bullying Club duo hasn’t been on streams much lately.
Mayalo gets a chance in a lightning match with Pegasso. Araklis, Lestat and Rey Samuray, three of the better local flyers, taking on Espanto Jr., Guerrero Espacial and King Jaguar. It’s good day for Puebla cult favorites, as Policeman also is on the show, teaming with Sauron against the Centella Rojas.
CultIcon previews the show. It’ll air at 9pm on CMLL’s YouTube channel.
Dragon Lee is the only CMLL representative in this year’s Best of Super Juniors. Someone on Twitter told me this was something Dragon Lee had said and I definitely didn’t pay enough attention to it.
05/19 (SAT): versus Sho
05/22 (TUE): versus Ryusuke Taguchi
05/25 (FRI): versus Hiromu Takahashi (main event)
05/27 (SUN): versus Chris Sabin
05/30 (WED): versus Marty Scurll
06/02 (SAT): versus Kushida (main event)
06/03 (SUN): versus Desperado
That 06/03 show has Kushida versus Takahashi, which seems pretty obviously the match to determine the winner of the block. Dragon Lee is advertised for PCW’s show on 06/08, so he’s probably not sticking around for the 06/09 NJPW PPV.
Also, Rey Mysterio will appear on the NJPW 06/09 Dominion show. Match is to be announced. They teased a match with Will Ospreay on his last show.
Dr. Wagner Jr. & Hijo del Dr. Wagner are wrestling in Japan on 07/17.
Aeroboy won the GALLI championship last night.
AAA announcer Arturo Rivera is involved in a Twitter controversy, accused about advocating violence towards a political candidate. This is a rabbit hole I do not want to go down, but it’s turned into enough of a thing to get news articles. I do not think this affects his AAA status at all, though it does make me wonder about those things which might affect his AAA status. The Arturo Rivera/Jesus Zuniga/Andres Maronas group of announcers have been around forever and that usually means they stay with AAA forever, but it feels like they’ve been de-emphaized this year with the Space show being treated as the main AAA one.
MLW’s TV show is now going up on BEIN’s YouTube channel, which means you can see the Fenix/Penta match from the first show in better video quality than I saw it.
+LuchaTv put up a full Rey Fenix vs Hijo de LA Park vs Bandido vs Fenix match
Universo 2000 is on the cover of this week’s Box Y Lucha.
