CMLL (MON) 04/09/2018 Arena Puebla [CMLL, Lucha Central]
1) Arkalis, Millenium, Rey Samuray b El Perverso, Fuerza Chicana, Rey Apocalipsis
tecnicos took 1/3.
2) El Malayo, Grako, Templario b Fugaz, Principe Daniel, Reyko
Rudos take 1/3 over the debuting Guadalajara crew.
3) Kaho Kobayashi & Princesa Sugehit b Dalys & Zeuxis
Tecnicas took 1/3 in a bit of a surprise.
4) Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón b Ángel de Oro, Dragón Lee, Niebla Roja
NGD took 1/3. Cuatrero pulled Dragon Lee’s mask off again, and Dragon Lee wants another match next week.
5) El Malayo, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas DQ La Bestia Del Ring, Rush, Terrible
Peste Negra took 2/3, the last when the Terrible blatantly fouled Negro Casas. Malayo replaced Shocker.
6) Carístico b Mistico
Mistico won the first with La Mistica, Mistica was DQ in the second for ripping off Caristico’s mask by mistake, and Caristico won the third clean with La Caristica (La Mistica.)
Main event was good. I was sure the second fall was a mistake DQ live, but it felt more like it was part of the storyline later: both guys got a fall win and Mistico can call the middle fall loss a fluke. 2/4 matches seem like worth watching.
Earlier, Caristico made the case that Mistico hasn’t really done anything in his career.
Today’s CMLL Arena Mexico show has eight singles matches, a rarity in trios focused CMLL. The main event is a Dragon Lee vs Mephisto non-title singles match. This should be a good exhibition for Dragon Lee, who doesn’t seem to take it easy in any singles match. They’ve met once before, three years ago. Dragon Lee is better now, Mephisto not so much, but it should still be worth watching.
The card also includes the second block of the Torneo Nuevo Valores, winner to face Flyer next week. The luchadors involved in this one are Magia Blanca, Coyote, Fugaz, Principe Diamante, Maquiavelo, Reyko, Principe Daniel, and Principe Odin Junior. There’s no clear favorite or underdog, it’s eight guys at about the same level. I think people would be disappointed if the former Artillero and the long time veteran advanced under his new character. Otherwise, anyone could win and it’s just about the same going in. Hopefully, this tournament makes us to want see the winner more.
Three usual matches round out the card. Felino, Niebla and Rey Bucanero take on Angel de Oro, Niebla Roja and Mistico in the semimian buffer match. Disturbio, Hijo del Signo and Nitro take on Electrico, Fuego and Pegasso. Magnus & Robin face Akuma & Cholo in the opener, which might be a good match if not for the usual restrictions.
CultIcon previews the show. It’ll start at 7:30pm on CMLL’s YouTube page. The Nuevo Valores tournament will begin around 8:15pm.
Guadalajara has NGD (Sanson, Cuatrero and Forastero) defending the Mexican Trios Championship against Esfinge, Titan and Triton. A title change would be a big surprise. The main event has Caristico teaming with Valiente & Volador against Cavernario, Negro Casas, and Gran Guerrero.
There’s some significant changes on Friday’s card. The Sam Adonis/Negro Casas lightning match is now a Soberano Jr./Negro Casas match. Johnny Idol is also off the show, with Dragon Rojo taking his place. No reason given for these changes.
CMLL says they’ll have a press conference next Wednesday. They’ll talk about the Arena Mexico Anniversary show, the Kid’s Day shows and special shows they have planned for May.
