CMLL Friday night show, Penta & Fenix All In

CMLL has the first normal Friday night show in a while. The last Friday night show without a tag team tournament match was January 26th, nearly two month sago. This show is back to the format of five tag team matches and one lightning match.

The main event has the odd team of Marco, Ultimo Guerrero and Diamante Azul versus Rush, Terrible and Kraneo. It’s Rush & Terrible’s first Friday night team up since Terrible joined Los Ingobernables at the end of the incredible pairs tag tournament. Kraneo’s an unusual Friday night main event inclusion, and maybe it’ll catch up with the story of the rudos being unhappy with him in Puebla. When asked about this match, Ultimo Guerrero said he’s a rudo and wants to remain one, but also wants to beat up Rush this time.

The obligatory Homenaje a Dos Leyendas rematch takes place in the semimain, where Angel de Oro & Cuatrero meet after their mask match. Oro teams with his brother Niebla Roja & Matt Taven against Cuatrero, Sanosn and Volador. Volador’s an odd fit in this match, and I still have a sneaking suspicion CMLL’s setting up a Volador/Taven match before Taven finishes up his run. Taven’s not really been involved in much so far.

Audaz makes it all the way up to the fourth match, though not with Virus involved this week. CMLL’s super rookie teams up with Fuego & Guerrero Maya against Misterioso, Puma & Tiger in what looks like the best match of the night. Blue Panther Jr. takes on Drone in the lightning match, in Drone’s first Friday night appearance of the year. Virus is on the card, but down in the second match teaming with Sagrado & Templario against Magia Blanca, Star Jr. and Pegasso in a promising match. A minis match opens a Friday night show again, with Shockercito & Stukita taking on Mercurio & Pequeno Nitro.

This show is back on MarcaClaro (both on Facebook and on their website), though still at the later time of 9:30 pm.

Everyone’s been asked about Perro Aguayo Jr. this week. Someone asked Rush. That turned out not to be a great idea. Rush says he does not consider Perro Aguayo Jr. a legend, because his career did not last long enough. Rush is a big fan of Perro Aguayo Sr., but bristles at people comparing himself and Perro Jr., saying Perro got the advantage of his father’s name while Rush had to make his own name. This is an Unpopular Opinion.

Two people who wrote internet.tv about getting refunds for Homenaje a Dos Leyendas told me they never heard back from the company. The show no longer appears in the site’s VOD library, which is consistent with past years.

Impact Wrestling vs Lucha Underground @ WrestleCon on 04/06 (free show on Twitch, night show)

Taya seems to be announced as her Impact character. Like Callihan, she’ll probably end up as her Lucha Underground character.

Rey Fenix & Penta announced they’ll be on the 09/01 All In Bullet Club show. That’s not a surprise. In the past, those two wrestlers on a show has meant CMLL wrestlers would not be allowed on the same show. That probably still is the case, but it’s not an unbreakable – Dragon Lee would’ve been on the same card as Rey Mysterio Jr. this Sunday had Mysterio been healthy.

PWInsider says MLW will be allowed to use AAA & Lucha Underground wrestlers on their soon to air TV show. They’d been using some The Crash wrestlers of late, and it’s unclear if that’ll also continue. The TV show is expected to air on BeINSports, a channel available on a lot of cable and satellite systems though often put in a separate sports tier.

Sexy Star’s boxing match this weekend has changed, or maybe I had it wrong to begin with. The poster for the show has Dulce Garica across from “Pequena Lulu” Lourdes Juarez, a 22-2 champion boxer. That seems like a tragic mismatch that was hard to understand. It also wasn’t correct.  The preshow press says Dulce Garcia will take on local boxer Esperanza Resendiz, who has a 0-1 record on boxrec. Juarez is instead facing a local who has a 1-2 record. The boxing show airs on Televisa in Mexico.

There’s an advertisement for a seminar for aspiring lucha libre promoters which is getting mocked steadily on Facebook. Heriberto Garcia is charging 500 pesos for to teach the ins and outs of promotion. He’s billing himself as part of the groups, the most prominent being the PROESA promotion which had TV on a low level station a couple years back. My memories of that show were how terribly it was produced, how episodes would repeat for months at a time and the few events they ran themselves did not seem to draw much. Unless this session is “these are all the things I did that you should definitely not do”, it’s hard to see how it’s worth 500 pesos.

MDA (SUN) 04/01/2018 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Babe Fox vs Mini Hator
2) Memo Valles vs Guerrero Fantasma
3) Laredo Kid vs Emperador Azteca (IWRG)

Weird to see Blue Demon main event AAA and this promotion of people who used to be in AAA. If you’re any other top guy in AAA, I’d suspect you’d want this same freedom that seems to be available to guys like Demon & Wagner.
