CMLL (MON) 03/19/2018 Arena Puebla
CMLL Homenaje a Dos Leyendas, 2018
1) Astro & Millenium b Joker & Saurón
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Arkalis, Astral, Eléctrico b Hijo del Signo, Perverso, Policeman
tecnicos took 1/3
3) Blue Panther Jr., Drone, Stigma b Kawato San, Puma, Tiger
tecnicos took 1/3.
4) Kráneo b Euforia
El Egipico was honored after the match.
5) Ángel de Oro, Matt Taven, Niebla Roja DQ Cuatrero, Mr. Niebla, Sansón
Cuatrero fouled Angel de Oro. Tecnicos took 2/3.
6) Carístico, Gran Guerrero, Mephisto b La Bestia Del Ring, Mistico, Rush [Relevos Increíbles]
Team Caristico took falls 2/3. Gran Guerrero pulled Mistico’s mask to win.
Caristico is back. That also means CMLL’s favorite bait & switch is back: Mistico and Caristico tease a feud for half the match, and then they change to whatever program they’re really doing.
I didn’t seem much of this yet. Kraneo/Euforia seemed watchable. Kraneo was a very tired monster by the end of that one. There was no overt tecnico turn; Mije seemed to want the microphone (for him or Kraneo), didn’t get it and everyone just went to the back to get out of the way of the Egipico plaque ceremony.
Tonight’s Arena Mexico show seems to be headed towards a Cavernario/Soberano feud. The caveman fouled Soberano last week, and they’re in the main event with Mistico, Volador, Felino and Mr. Niebla. It’s probably leading to a title match next week. That match should be good, but Cavernario is being used to lose in way too many feuds this year.
Guerrero Maya, Rey Cometa and Stuka versus Johnny Idol, Kawato San and Okumura is the semimain. Ephesto and Rey Bucanero is the odd lightning match. I always hope they break from CMLL lightning match style in these, where the idea of doing 2 dives and some big moves before a finish is clearly not in the best interest in the people involved. It rarely happens.
Tonight’s women’s match – Kaho, Marcela, Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, Zeuxis – is among the best CMLL can put together, and seems worth watching. The rest of the undercard is not. Oro, Sensei and Star Jr. face two members of the grumpy rudo squad (Raziel & Cancerbero) and Universo 2000. Aereo and Acero open one more show, this time with Pequeno Olimpico and Pequeno Violencia.
The show starts at 7:30pm CT local, 8:30pm CT in daylight savings time areas.
An Ovaciones article says Arena Coliseo has a capacity of 6,863 people. The building is 75 years old on April 2nd, the Anniversary card (03/31?) will be announced on Wednesday, and the Kid’s Day show will also be announced. I’d guess that’ll be Sunday 04/29 and perhaps double as the Arena Mexico Anniversary show.
Again, that press conference is tomorrow at noon CT, which is 1pm CT in daylight saving time areas. I probably won’t put up an update until afterwards, so it’ll be on the late end of when these normally go up.
I watched the debut of the Reto 4 Elementos reality show, where Australian Suicide, Bengala, Lady Shani and La Hiedra are participating. I thought it was a one hour show. It ended up being over two and half hours. It was evidently longer (via added commercial time) in the US, because the show Twitter and the AAA Zona Ruda Twitter were talking about things before we got to see them. It was also largely boring: teams taking a long time to get thru long and difficult obstacle courses which were not interesting to watch.
They’re airing this show Mondays thru Thursdays for the next couple months. The AAA team may be out after two days. It’s an eight team competition, at least in this stage, and they’re starting with a loser advanced tournament where the where team may be eliminated. The luchador team barely lost their first match up with Australian Suicide carrying the team. They weren’t even close on the second competition, and Bengala suffered a foot injury leaping from a high platform into the water. I did not understand the diagnosis, but he wasn’t able to put much weight on it. They’ll have one more head to head competition on tonight’s show and the clips they showed of it do not look like it went well for them. It’s a reality show, so the clips could’ve been chosen to make them more sympathetic, but it doesn’t look good.
The idea is these luchadors would be off AAA shows while they’re on this reality show. An early exit might mean they’d be wrestling again soon. Maybe not so much for Bengala if that foot injury is bad.
Canek doesn’t seem to think Elite is happening again any time soon. I think we all miss Elite because it would’ve been an entertaining failure but everything they were doing suggested they would’ve been the same failure they had been every other time.
