Niebla Roja refused to be a rudo as usual.

Cometa seemed to challenge Cavernario to a title match, but that can’t happen – or at least CMLL can’t announce it has happening – until Cometa gives Soberano his title match on Friday. Otherwise a boring show.

The big activity on this show was the The Freedom’s restaurant, with the usual pageantry of luchadors young and old on hand, a ribbon cutting, and a big mural. The mural is on the outside of the restaurant, done by the same artist who did the one above the concession stands in the lobby, so you’ll be seeing it every night. The restaurant opens to the public on Friday, and they’re offering a combo package with Turiluchas for the bus trip and a buffet for 900 pesos/about $46 dollars. The seating looked like it was a press box, spaces which might be used for a laptop instead being used for food. I haven’t seen the prices for just the restaurant themselves, but this is clearly aimed at people who will pay for a premium experience.

The artist snuck in famous people in the crowd on the other mural and seems to have done the same with the new one: Kamiatachi Fan is among those in there, and has some behind the scenes photos.

Arena Coliseo Guadalajara announced a couple of special Sunday shows for June. June 4th will be another Leyendas Inmortals show, and MDA will run the building on the 18th.

Lucha Memes on 05/21 in Coacalco:

May 10th is Mother’s Day in Mexico. Reforma has a video story on Faby Apache and her son Marvin. ESPN has an interview with La Seductora, who actually talks more about her divorce and how it affected wrestling career (her husband didn’t want her to wrestle, then progressive dropped her objections to try and save the relationship, which did not work) than her children. She has three kids and three gran children, and is thinking about retiring in a year.

Tickets for AAA’s taping in Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera from 185 to 597 MXP Pesos. The higher end was 712MX for Guerra de Titanes, so they’re running a little cheaper for just a normal TV taping.

Uproxx has an interview with Taya about Lucha Underground and AAA. She’s looking forward to that Ayako match going up this week and I that match is going to be a talked about thing when it goes up; since Taya’s involved, it feels like something AAA could use to get attention from the LU fanbase which doesn’t usually watch their Mexico show. LU also seems to putting people out there for press interviews to wake the fans back up before the 31st debut date, which is going to be necessary after such a layoff. Even in the best case, it’s probably going to take a few weeks for people to remember the show is around, but whatever they can do to improve awareness will help.

Lady Shani is headed back to WUW in New York on May 27th.

The Crash officially announced it’s 06/02 Tijuana show, which will be a benefit show for Nicho.

Aerostar & Drago debut in Minneapolis’ First Wrestling on June 3.

GALLI announced Penta, Guerrero Maya Jr. and Aeroboy for their 06/04 show.

KDNA is offering bus trips from Monterrey & Saltillo to Mexico City for Psycho Clown. .

Mil Mascaras is coming to Lafayette, Indiana (?!?) on September 16th. Also, Mil Muertes, Extreme Tiger.

LuchaWorld has the latest edition of their podcast.

  5. Máximo Sexy, Mistico, Negro Casas  defeated Diamante Azul, Ephesto, Mephisto in a relevos increíbles match
    (11:51 [5:21, 6:30], 1/2 straight, ok, via VideosOficialesCMLL)

What happened:

not a normal way to do a casita but whatever works

Negro Casas pinned Mephisto in both falls of the main event to set up a title match next week. Mephisto accepted, though he took a DDTed from Casas in the process.

Zacarias had his foot on the rope on the pin in the micro match. Guapito is still better than most of these other refs.

Thoughts:

Lestat’s senton looked good

Another mostly skippable show.

Last week’s version of the main event seemed a little smoother, though this one was a bit more effective in getting over where they want to go. Casas snuck out fall wins twice, so maybe he can sneak out a couple more next week. Mistico seemed to again have a quiet night, though he’s own a few dozen of those. Diamante Azul had one hiccup and didn’t do the greatest job catching Mistico on his dive

The semimain rushed match which still did enough not to feel like a cheat, but didn’t last long. I would like longer matches, but I don’t expect these guys to switch it up much anyway. I’d actually like to see the openers work at this pace, but at least this one kept moving.

tiny backdrop

The tercera match was another enjoyable match with the micros. Nothing Microman has to do looks easy, and it’s amazing he’s able to do all what he has to do – Gallito looks like a short guy who can do stuff in comparison, while Microman has to throw himself to get over the top on a sunset flip. This one was good, but the surprise and the atmosphere of the Sunday makes that one preferable on it’s own, and they also just ha a better laid out match that time.

The second match was the usual long dragging match Oro looks more energetic of late and Lestat did a couple things. Nitro did a suplex, clearly gearing up for his trip to France. It amazing how long Canelo Casas has had a dumb finisher and it still sticks out at how bad it is. I get used to a lot of bad CMLL stuff that just doesn’t even register as being notable any more, but Canelo’s finish sticks out as bad to me. It was more terrible than usual.

The opener was another one of those early Puebla where they went really long in the opener, both becoming boring and requiring them to hurry thru the rest of the match. Vega and Rey Apocalipsis seemed to match up well with each other for about 2.5 falls, then Vega lost his balance on a springboard and that was the end of that. Third fall finish seemed like a mess, with either Tirantes or the wrestlers forgetting who the captain was – it seemed to be Tirantes fault, but said something harsh to Rey Apocalipsis after he finally returned to be pinned.

Diamante Azul needs to work on his dive catches
