Cometa & Cavernario is worth going out of your way to watch, as usual. It wasn’t as nuts as some of their matches but still pretty entertaining. Cometa winning is a nice surprise. In a better world, Cometa is defending this title against the Sagrado/Tiger/Pumas of the world, and Cavernario has a bigger title. In this world, I’m just happy to have this match.

Lucha Underground is on Netflix, if you are in the US, Canada or Latin American markets. (If you’re in places like the UK, Australia or Brazil, you’re still out of luck unless you want to run a VPN. Also, my secret shame is I’ve never subscribed to Netflix.)  It’s the first two seasons in HD, exactly as hyped on the day Lucha Underground said it’d be released. This is a good day for Lucha Underground. TV Insider has an interview with Johnny Mundo about what the show could mean for the series.

One surprise is there’s Spanish language commentary for both seasons. This bit leaked out yesterday afternoon – this article previewing the series mentioned there was second season Spanish commentary. I almost wrote something correcting it because, as well all know, Lucha Underground stopped recording sections in Spanish after they stopped airing on Unimas. Apparently, we (I) don’t know anything, because Season 2 does indeed have a second language track. It’s a mishmash: there’s voice actors dubbing over the parts of the wrestlers and for the on camera desk shots of Striker & Vampiro, and then Jose Manuel Guillen and Bernado Guzman of +Lucha taking over the actual play by play of the matches. I kind of want to see it to see how they’d call the bigger matches.

(aside 1: It was always a bit short sided not to continue recording segments in Spanish – this show probably needs to air in the native language of lucha libre if it’s going to succeed – but LU’s bank accounts are not infinite and it might have been a tradeoff to use that money on other things. Still, it seems like something that should come back in season 4.)

(aside 2: people think I do a lot of stuff. No, the +LuchaTV crew really does a lot of stuff. Jose is doing commentary for the English version of CMLL that’s airing in Canada and the Spanish version of AAA’s Lucha Underground, that’s a real rarity and would be busy enough for most people. That crew is also producing multiple video shows a week for their YouTube channel, doing a podcast, going to multiple shows and editing highlights packages, producing paid content, and probably ten other things I don’t even know about. It’s not just two guys, or two guys and one Monje, it’s a crew of people working on the project now who deserve to share in some of the credit, but the project is responsible for a tremendous amount of important lucha libre content. I don’t know how long it can last this way, someone big is going to notice what they’re doing and give them and offer just to work on their stuff someday, but +LuchaTV feels like the most irrepalacable part of the lucha libre landscape at the moment for how many different parts of it they affect.)

The Mistico & Stuka vs Sam Adonis and Ultimo Guerrero match in Orlando on 04/01 is off. This doesn’t affect the CMLL people appearing for Ring of Honor (and doesn’t have anything to do with ROH also using CMLL people.)

At the BARACAL show honoring the original Pierroth, he stated he approved of the new Pierroth using the name. This is the usual bit of a older luchador licensing his name out to someone else, which probably helps the original Pierroth given his medical issues.

Llaves y Candados announced in a video that their ColiseoMania 5 (04/09) top matches will be a main event of Garza, Rey Mysterio and Penta el Zero M against Nicho, Damian and Bestia, and a semimain of Zorro & Daga against Sammy Guevara and a international surprise. Rey Fenix was said to not be on the card this time due to other commitments.

Vampiro was interviewed by his local Thunder Bay paper about his new role with Lucha Libre FMV. He explains he was the perfect person for the position, and will still be spending time in his hometown doing community work and with his martial arts school.

Lector 24 interviews Black Terry, who calls himself a teacher and not a maestro – he helps people get better, he’s not perfect.

The latest +LuchaTV podcast has Texano, Demus and Iron Kid as guest. They’ve also posted Saturno vs Skyman from Cara Lucha, which is said to be really great.

Impact Wrestling has an article on Garza Jr. & Laredo Kid. Mostly Garza Jr., they can’t figure out anything about Laredo Kid because he’s a masked man. Their debut match airs tomorrow on Impact.

LuchaWorld has the latest Lucha Report.

Segunda Caida reviews Hijo del Santo vs Negro Casas from 1997.

The FULL show this weekend in Cuernavaca drew 2,500.

Super Fly says Monterrey will see Aerostar’s face.

CMLL’s written a history of Homenaje a Dos Leyendas main events or at least the ones they feel like bringing up. FWIW,

Electrico, Silueta and Demus talk about their trip to Puerto Rico.

Lineup

IWRG (SUN) 03/19/2017 Arena Naucalpan
1) Shadow Boy vs Araña de Plata
2) Kanon vs Skanda
3) Leo, Mike, Rafy, Teelo vs Eterno, Hip Hop Man, Keshin Black, Vórtize [lumberjack]
4) Black Dragón vs Demonio Infernal
5) Heddi Karaoui, Relámpago, X-Fly vs Demasiado, Diva Salvaje, Nigma
6) Pirata Morgan Jr. vs Killer Jr., Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Danny Casas, Hijo del Alebrije, Bobby Lee Jr., Silver King Jr., Argos, Diablo Jr., Hijo de Pirata Morgan [Rebelion de los Juniors]
winner gets a shot at the IWRG Junior de Juniors title, held by Herodes Jr.

Silver King Jr., Argos and Bobby Lee Jr. make appearances here to round out the all Junior elimination match. Fourth match is a rematch of a mask match.

CMLL (TUE) 03/21/2017 Arena México
1) Bengala & Leono vs Cholo & Inquisidor
2) Magia Blanca, Sangre Imperial, Starman vs Nitro, Sangre Azteca, Skándalo
3) Blue Panther, Drone, Tritón vs El Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón
4) Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Virus [lightning]
5) Luciferno, Mephisto, Pólvora vs Negro Casas, Puma, Tiger
6) Carístico, Dragón Lee, Marco Corleone vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

Once you get past the really not good first two matches, this is a pretty strong card. Maya/Virus is the eye catching match, but the maine vent has a good mix and the tercera has the Dinamitas against Blue Sr. and a couple of good stand-ins for his sons. The semimain rudo vs rudo match up only makes sense if they’re setting up the Casas family finally getting their – NAH.

CMLL (TUE) 03/21/2017 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
***Homenaje a Dos Leyendas: Salvador Lutteroth & Ringo Mendoza***
1) Capitán Cobra & Fantástico vs Linterna & Mr. Apolo
2) Marcela, Silueta, Skadi vs Amapola, La Seductora, Tiffany
3) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Johnny Idol vs Cavernario, Felino, Mr. Niebla
4) Hechicero © vs Stuka Jr. [NWA LH]
5) Diamante Azul, Matt Taven, Volador Jr. vs La Máscara, Pierroth, Rush

Matt Taven is staying for more than just the weekend. Last week’s Caristico/Mephisto feud didn’t stay, with a sudden left turn into a Hechicero title match instead. That means the Hijos del Infienro might actually be giving up their titles on Friday before the Casas get that shot.

Lucha Memes (SUN) 03/26/2017 Arena Naucalpan
1) Baby Star, Dragón Negro, Magnético vs Demasiado, Pituso, Vengador Radioactivo
2) Demus 3:16, Mercurio (CMLL), Pierrothito vs Alas de Acero, Aramis, Iron Kid
3) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Totem I & Totem II
4) Puma (CMLL) & Tiger vs Corsario Negro Jr. & Drako
5) Black Terry & Negro Navarro © vs Hechicero & Virus [Arena Coliseo TAG]
2nd defense
6) Dragón Lee & Soberano Jr. vs Sádico & Sammy Guevara
7) Atlantis vs Último Vampiro

Full card for Chairo9 already. Atlantis vs Ultimo Vampiro is a unique match. Semimain could be outstanding. Title match should be fun too, because Negro Navarro appears to be a big Hechicero fan.

  1. Shows how much attention Impact Wrestling show towards getting their facts right as in that article they say Garza Jr is the grandson of Hector Garza who wrestled for them in 200. Just checked the wiki to make sure and as I thought he is the grandson of Mario Segura.
