Tonight’s CMLL show is the final Friday night before Homenaje a Dos Leyendas, though you wouldn’t know it from most of tonight’s card. Diamante Azul faces Pierroth in a trios match to build up their match (for the third straight week, and as has happened ever week since January 27th except for the tournament block weeks.) Diamante Azul teams with Caristico & Maximo, Pierroth of course teams with La Mascara & Rush. The main will obviously end with an illegal move, with the only question is if it’s caught for DQ or not. The build up matches haven’t book much good, this probably won’t be much different, but the goal here is to get people to care about next week’s show.
The rest of the card looks better. The Guerreros (Euforia, Niebla, UG version) take on Dragon Lee, Mistico and Valiente in what might be a super match. Niebla Roja & Dragon Lee are feuding on Sundays, which might come up here. Volador, Atlantis and Marco are all kind of slumming in the fourth match, taking on Felino, Niebla Roja and the returning Sam Adonis. Adonis is getting a bigger spot than usual after his media attention, and he and Marco seem to have started a feud.
The lightning match is Stuka versus Bobby Villa, which should be solid. The Nueva Generacion Dinamita team up against Drone, Esfinge and Guerrero Maya. Those winning the opener, Fuego & Soberano vs Misterioso & Sagrado, never work openers – CMLL’s decided to load up this show for whatever reason. There seemed to be a start of a Misterioso/Soberano feud last week, which also might come up here.
CultIcon also previews this show. The show takes place at 8:30pm tonight, and it’s the last CMLL stream before Daylight Savings Time starts in the US. The ClaroSports stream is currently still region blocked (because they’re airing a table tennis tournament), but perhaps they’ll fix it before show time.
The idea of a Freedom bar/restaurant coming to Arena Mexico is no longer a rumor; there’s signage up in Arena Mexico and they’ve cut out a seating area which should be visible tonight. I believe that’s side opposite of the ramp, just above where the rowdy fans sit. This possibility came up earlier this week and would be an interesting way to add another revenue stream for CMLL (especially if it’s open outside of show time, which is an unknown.) More details are probably coming.
