Rush defeats UG, Cavernario/Cometa in trios tonight, RIOT

RIOT (SAT) 03/04/2017 Arena Femenil, Monterrey, Nuevo León [LuchaMania Monterrey]
1) Psicótico b Muerte Extrema
Psicotico won via plancha
2) Dulce Kanela b Larry Miranda
Dulce won via Skayde Special.
3) Kaientai & Lord Byron b Chik Tormenta & Tony Rodríguez
Tony brought Chik Tormenta as his surprise partner. The Unmexicans still ended up winning. They praised Tormenta, but then surprise attacked her again.
4) Low Rider b Séptimo Dragón, Sammy Guevara
Turned into a three way with Guevera added. Low Rider did a diver off the upper level. Rider pinned Sammy after Jack hit Sammy with a crutch.
5) Alas de Acero, Aramis (Estado de México), Iron Kid (Estado de México) b Erick Ortiz, Kamikaze, Kratoz
moved to the main event after Jack/Sammy was canceled. Monterrey trio is going with “Los Mismos de Siempre” (off Facebook commentators complaining Riot books these same guys always.) Kamikaze beat Iron Kid with what sounds like a really good match.

They offered refunds for Jack not wrestling, but it looks like they still had a big turnout.

This should eventually turn up on Powerbomb.TV, as they slowly roll out more video. Powerbomb.TV starting adding Black Terry Jr. video yesterday, with a bunch of IWRG videos and an RCH show from 2015.

CMLL (MON) 03/06/2017 Arena Puebla [CMLL, Culticon, NTX]
1) El Malayo & Guerrero Espacial b Hijo de Centella Roja & Vega LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 6 DE MARZO DEL 2017 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
Vega’s first match here since the end of November.
2) Hijo del Signo & Policeman b Black Tiger & Espíritu Maligno LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 6 DE MARZO DEL 2017 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
Espiritu appears to be a tecnico for at least the moment.
3) Canelo Casas, Sangre Azteca, Virus b Soberano Jr., Star Jr., Stigma LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 6 DE MARZO DEL 2017 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
4) Bobby Villa, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora b Ángel de Oro, Stuka Jr., Titán LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 6 DE MARZO DEL 2017 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
Titan left on a stretcher after taking the Super Polvora Driver.
5) Atlantis, Carístico, Dragón Lee DQ Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 6 DE MARZO DEL 2017 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
Mephisto fouled Caristico. Caristico wanted a title match or at least a rematch.
6) Rush b Último Guerrero LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 6 DE MARZO DEL 2017 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
Rush snuck in a foul on Ultimo Guerrero.

Main event was better than the previous matches have been, thought not must see. It’s the first time Rush has beaten Ultimo Guerrero in a singles match in four years, and he’s had plenty of chances in that time. Caristico setting up a trios title shot of his own is a negative indicator for the Panthers’ chances of winning on Saturday.

Today’s CMLL show seems to continue a build to Rey Cometa versus Cavernario. It doesn’t really make any sense for Cavernario to be getting a title shot, Cometa beat him cleanly last week, but Cometa doesn’t get into main events unless they’re doing a feud. (Maybe they forgot Cometa is champion again and think they are building up a title match correctly!) They’re the focus of CMLL’s preview and I don’t think anyone would object to a singles match between the two even if it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Tonight, Cometa teams with Dragon Lee & Atlantis to take on Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero and Cavernario.

Titan & Triton team up for one may be the last times for the moment  – Triton is advertised in Chicago on April 9th, so he probably finishes up in Mexico by the end of the month and will be in the US for months. They partner with Blue Panther against the Revolucinarios. The lightning match will be Pegasso versus Virus, which might be as good as the other top matches. The tercera has the Panther kids & Star Jr. vs Skandalo, Puma and Canelo Casas. There sure would be a lot more good matches in CMLL midcards if Canelo Casas was good, or if he was replaced by someone better. Robin, Flyer and Principe Diamante take on Raziel, Cancabero and Metalico. The show opens with a minis match, Pierrothito & Mercurio versus Stukita and new champ Shockercito

CultIcon also previews this show, which airs on YouTube at 7:30pm.

Guadalajara has the Dalys/Marcela title match, which probably should be another Dalys title defense.

CMLL says Retro replaces Marvel on Saturday. Retro had one match last May, was introduced on CMLL Informa, and disappeared from CMLL until now.

There’s a rumor going around about Arena Mexico adding a permanent bar/restaurant. Apolo Valdes referenced it on Twitter this weekend, and Tercera y Definitiva writes about it on their blog. It’s nothing more official than a rumor right now. It would be a Freedom Sports Bar, a chain in Mexico. Sports arenas having bar areas is now pretty common in the US, and some of those stadiums keep the bars open even when the team isn’t playing. It’s not common for lucha libre at all; I remember stories of arena run small restaurants being set up at Arena Naucalpan and Arena Azteca Budokan, and I don’t think either of them are still around. The Tercera y Definitiva column points out a sports bar could be, like the Turiluchas bus, something that encourages people who may not be as big fans of lucha libre into checking out a show.

A sports bar wouldn’t even necessarily have to be inside the Arena Mexico structure. There’s plenty of non-wrestling store space in that block, and I suspect the Lutteroth family owns the entire block. They could also convert some of the upper sections that are not really used more than a handful of times a year into something else that might make money the whole year. It’d also give the building an attraction for lucha fans when they’re not running shows and that may be something they’re already considering; earlier this year, CMLL filed a trademark for “Museo del CMLL de lucha libre”. They could probably fit a small museum into a restaurant, or maybe make the restaurant itself a museum. But it’s important to

A Sam Adonis article in the Economist. A Sam Adonis feature is coming up on Vice. There are Sam Adonis content everywhere.

At the Arena Azteca Budokan show this past weekend, Zorro & Cibernetico each offered the Hijo de Rey Misterio Rebelion and Radicals shirts, and he turned them both down. Maybe offering shirts will be the storyline bit of 2017 like it was in about 1997.

Hernandez, LA Park & Rush defeated Masada, Chavo Guerrero and Carlito in Monterrey on Sunday. (They changed the teams around a little bit.) LA Park & Rush got along well enough that Rush suggested they team against foreigners again.

El Tijuananese interviews Golden Magic and Ronnie Mendoza, both whom are hoping to wrestle internationally this year. I had heard Mendoza was going to WWE a long time ago, but he sounds like a guy who expects to be in the indies for the time being and not tied to a company.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 03/13/2017 Arena Puebla
1) Cancerbero, Policeman, Raziel vs Arkalis, Espíritu Maligno, Tigre Rojo Jr.
2) Estrellita, Princesa Sugehit, Sanely vs La Seductora, Tiffany, Zeuxis
3) Drone, Esfinge, Lestat vs Puma, Skándalo, Tiger
4) Diamante Azul, Máximo Sexy, Titán vs La Máscara, Pierroth, Ripper
5) Atlantis, Carístico, Dragón Lee vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto

Main event is the expected rematch; the rudos are really out gunned. The semimain might be the last Pierroth/Azul trios – except for the months of rematches we’ll get. Lestat gets to be in a promising match, which would be even more promising without Skandalo. (Was Stigma busy?)

IWRG (SUN) 03/12/2017 Arena Naucalpan
1) Cadilac vs Power Bull
2) Kanon vs Vórtize
3) Átomo & Shadow Boy vs Atomic Star & Chavela La Atrevida
4) Pantera I & The Tiger vs Hip Hop Man & Relámpago
5) Black Terry & Diablo Jr. © vs Black Dragón & Internacional Pantera [IWRG IC TAG]
first defense
6) Negro Navarro, Trauma II, Veneno vs Chicano, Danny Casas, Golden Magic
7) Herodes Jr., Silver King, Trauma I vs Imposible, Mr. Electro, Tigre Del Ring

I have no idea who’s a tecnico or a rudo here, but Chicano being on the opposite side of former tag partner Veneno is notable. Tigre del Ring gets into a main event really quick. Chavela is usually spelled “Chabela” and – like Chicano and Tigre del Ring – from Chihuahua. Looks like no Wednesday show this week.
