CMLL Martes de Nuevo Valores: 2017-02-28

nudo Raziel

Recapped: 03/01/2017

What happened: Rey Cometa & Cavernario sort of feuded in the main event, which I guess is supposed to be a feud going forward, but it just seemed like what they were doing on this show. The only other notable thing happened is Triton got a haircut before I did.

What was good: I liked the semimain, but it’s likely the boredom of this show broke me down and the good grade was more an indication of my will breaking. This is not a good use of two hours.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Match 1: Bengala & Marvel vs Camorra & El Coyote
Arena México, 02/28/2017

VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. rudos
    • Camorra reverse armbar Marvel (5:26)
    • Coyote double underhook suplex Bengala (5:53)
  2. técnicos
    • Marvel tequilla sunrise Coyote (3:05)
    • Bengala triangule del solar Camorra (3:26)
  3. rudos
    • Coyote top rope senton Marvel (3:38)
    • Camorra double armbar Bengala (4:15)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time:13:34

Review: [ok] more of the boring failure of the match than the bad moves kind of failure. What stick out here, even beyond the work, is the new guys don’t seem particularly excited to be here. It’s drudgery for everyone. Coyote seems like the best of this wave of guys, though he about landed on Marvel’s head with a senton and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t miss him if he disappeared tomorrow.

Match 2: Acero, Eléctrico, Stukita vs Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
Arena México, 02/28/2017

  1. rudos
    • Mercurio front roll cradle Aereo (4:44)
    • Mercurio & Pierrothito Doomsday Device Stukita (5:22)
  2. técnicos
    • Electirco sprigbboard elbow drop Mercurio (2:51)
    • Stukita springboard torpedo splash Pierrothito (3:19)
  3. técnicos
    • Pierrothito double armabr Eléctrico (4:12)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 12:53

Review: [ok] there were moments of hope in here, but this was mostly a nothing interesting match. The big news is the lift up missile dropkick spot isn’t actually Acero & Aereo’s tag finish, but one of Aereo’s finishing moves. I guess he had not won enough for me to notice he uses it all time until now. Olímpico repeatedly kicking Aereo in the head (or near the head) after the match was over was kind of odd.

rudo teamwork

Match 3: Oro Jr., Stigma, Tritón vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Skándalo
Arena México, 02/28/2017

VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. rudos
    • Raziel Nudo Raziel Oro Jr. (6:44)
    • Cancerbero motocicleta Stigma (7:19)
  2. tecnicos
    • Stigma guillotine legdrop Skandalo (3:56)
    • Triton senton con giro Cancerbero (4:23)
  3. rudos
    • Skandalo Driver on Triton (7:02)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 18:44
Notes: Triton cut his hair! He’s got short hair now.

Review: [ok] another mostly boring match. At least Oro Jr. is up doing one neat thing every few matches and Raziel got a good submission idea off the nudo Maldito he and Sagrado have been using. Skandalo comes off as a guy who was brought on board because they were desperately short on people, not a guy who’s been on the roster for years. It felt like they went out of their way to keep him hidden during the match, yet they still trusted him to take Triton’s dive. He missed on the catch.

Match 4: Esfinge vs Nitro in a lightning match
Arena México, 02/28/2017
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLL

Winner: Esfinge (yes lock)
Match Time: 7:55
Notes: Nitro is a replacement for Okumura. The edecades don’t know, or simply decided to stick with the Japanese outfits they picked out earlier.

Review: [below average] very little happens in the first four minutes of this match, which seems like a problem when you’re going less than 10. The rest of it is Nitro doing lame offense and Esfinge setting up his dives. It’s the normal lighting match formula reduces to it’s minimum form, and it could not end quick enough.

Esfinge dive

Match 5: Guerrero Maya Jr., Johnny Idol, Stuka Jr. vs Hechicero, Ripper, Vangellys
Arena México, 02/28/2017
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. rudos
    • Hechicero one legged tapatia Stuka (5:53)
    • Ripper tapatia Guerrero Maya Jr. (5:53)
    • Vangellys crossed leg tapatia Johnny Idol (5:53)
  2. técnicos
    • Guerrero Maya Dos Caras Clutch Hechicero (3:11)
  3. rudos
    • rudos stacked up suplex (5:42)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 14:46

Review: [good] I’m giving this a good because the stacked up superplex was actually a finishing move for once in this lifetime, not just a very violent want to do the same two count they could’ve done on a cradle. It’s not the greatest reason to give a match a good grade, but this almost felt like it deserved it. There was effort and more creativity than usual with the triple submission to end the first fall (all tapatias in slightly different forms), and the frequent double tope spot in this match was subverted by the rudos stopping the second one and getting in their own. This felt better than what had come before, even if I wasn’t totally feeling it.

surprise rudo triple dive

Match 6: Carístico, Drone, Rey Cometa vs Cavernario, Felino, Negro Casas
Arena México, 02/28/2017
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLL

  1. Peste Negra
    • Cavernario pump splash Rey Comera (5:51)
    • Felino double armbar Drone (6:34)
  2. técnicos
    • Drone huracanrana Negro Casas (3:07)
    • Carsitico casita Felino (3:15)
  3. técnicos
    • Rey Cometa Canadian Destroyer Cavernario (5:25)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time:15:14

Review: [ok] Cavernario & Rey Cometa feuded, and that was good, but more for memories of their past feud and hope they’d pick it up again here. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t their best work. Drone also fit in ok, but didn’t really show off what’s made him look impressive in the undercard, just more worked around what the rudos were offering. Cavernario & Felino wrestled most of this match, with Casas getting in for a few spots but having an off night otherwise. There was a little more here the most rushed Tuesday matches but it still was better on paper than it looked, and I was surprised to see money thrown in.

  1. Yoshitatsu vs Diamante Azul took place in Guadalajara, not on the Arena Mexico show. The match will air on TV in Saturday, but only locally in Guadalajara. There’s almost no chance anyone outside of Guadalajara will see it.
